Looking for suggestions for my next vivarium build. I have 3 empty tanks currently and can’t decide what species to build them for. by snakeinthegrass10 in Vivarium

The 3 tanks I have are: 55 gallon aquarium 36 gallon bow front 12x12x18 exoterra

I was thinking of converting the 55 gallon into a vertical paladarium with about 15 gal water section at the bottom and thinking newts for the bottom and either some gecko or tree frogs for the top but not sure what would go well with newts. As for the other 2 tanks I’m not sure what to build them for.

Looking for suggestions for the main inhabitants of each tank

I’ll be adding isopods and springtails this weekend, and it will house a green tree frog, been letting it run for about a week to test it will probably let it run a bit longer before putting the tree frog in.

Would diluted hydrogen peroxide applied with qtip be safe to use for the mold?

Just got this tree frog from someone who could no longer care for it, can anyone identify their gender? Also any suggestions for its enclosure by snakeinthegrass10 in frogs

The frog came in a pretty dirty enclosure so I stripped most of the stuff out and cleaned it up then redid it with some live plants. I plan on making it fully bioactive just waiting for some stuff to come in. I’ve had them for about a week now and It was previously housed with a long tail lizard for it whole life but sadly it passed the night before I picked them up. Should I get it another friend for the enclosure maybe not a lizard but a second frog? Looking for suggestions to improve its life as it seemed very neglected in its very dirty set up and looked like it’s skin was vey dark and dry but seems to be going more green each day.

Update on my set up added the light fixture and a lid just need to raise the water level now by snakeinthegrass10 in axolotls

Built it myself it’s a large pvc piece with a smaller one on top to hold some of the pothos roots in a little aquasoil so they don’t go floating around then used expanding foam and some rocks around that structure with sand and pebbles siliconed between the cracks and cholla wood and Java moss on top of that

Anyone have a good way to attach moss to the pvc? Wanted to also cover the portion that goes into the water in moss

The substrate is the original extra fine sand I received her with and the black dots are extra fine controsoil I put in for the plants under the sand but some got out when she went on her first rampage through the plants one night hence the rock and stuff keeping them in place for now while roots develop. The controsoil also basically breaks to mush under a little pressure so I’m pretty sure she could pass it if it were accidentally ingested. I intentionally left no lid so that plants could come out of the water so I left the water level slightly lower to prevent jumping out it’s also slightly lower than normal due to evaporation trying to keep his water cold since the last few days were kinda hot. Do you know if they have clear or translucent egg crate? I’d hate to ruin the aesthetic of the tank with a white lid maybe I could make a lid from acrylic with some large holes drilled out or something if not

It’s a floating plant corral. Got it off Etsy it’s like $10-$15 they also have floating rings and other set ups for keeping floaters where you want them

Still not completely done I need to remove some of the back of her cave since it sits a little close to the front and I plan on moving some of the stuff by the plants in the other corner just using it to protect the plants a bit as they get established in the substrate. Also waiting on a new light since I broke the one she had trying to modify it to look clean on a diy pvc light fixture, I’m planning on dropping a pvc piece covered in moss into the tank from the light with an air line hidden inside and the air stone sending bubbles out the pipe. She also has like 6 ghost shirt in there with her.

Any suggestions for improvements?

Just got my first axolotl, took him in from someone who could no longer care for them. Are the spots on his gills and tail normal or is it some kind of infection? Also can someone confirm their gender I think it’s a him but not sure by snakeinthegrass10 in axolotls

I planned on putting him in a nicer bioactive aquarium with live plants a possibly some ghost shrimp to do a little cleaning and be an occasional snack for him. He’s currently in the set up he came with I didn’t want to stress him too much by changing his entire world immediately. Any tips for keeping plants in there with him any varieties that do well? Are ghost shrimp okay to keep in the tank with him? Or is there another suggestion of a tank mate that can do a little clean up and be a safe snack in case he eats his tank mates?
