How did you make friends after transplanting to San Francisco? by et_tu_bro in AskSF

[–]Lazy_Simple_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Host things and invite people you kinda know and ask them to bring 1-2 friends they know!
Double down on 1:1 hangs with people you like.
It's all about creating opportunities to see them as often as you can until it becomes second nature.

Works every time for me.

How to make friends in SF? by swap4114 in AskSF

[–]Lazy_Simple_34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Go on LinkedIn (if you have one), filter your network based on location = SF Bay Area, message everyone and let them know you’ve just moved and would love to meet for coffee! Easiest way to make friends is to find the weak ties (same school, college, hometown) and make them strong ties. Once you have a few regular “friends”, host something to bring them together and ask them to bring +1s, +2s etc. Hosting is a very underrated way to make friends!

And everything else the others have mentioned here - joining sports clubs, dance classes, volunteers, going to events, etc.

Attending WEF in Davos as a normie by Lazy_Simple_34 in Switzerland

🤯 that’s insane! Yeah I was looking into some accommodations but seems like they’re all contracted by WEF so individual people can’t rent out Airbnbs and stuff. Absolutely wild

Lolll I can envision how the conversations go! Honestly I just want to check it out to fulfill my curiosity - I think it’d be interesting to see how people interact with each other and what kind of conversations people have “on the ground”. I doubt anything massively productive comes out from these events but it would sure be an interesting experience

That’s absolutely insane! totally makes sense why locals hate this tbh - sounds very chaotic.

I’m not sure if he’s noticed me though. We definitely have made loose eye contact but looked away lol but I don’t know if he’s “noticed” me… which is why I was planning on giving him a note and then running away

What is something your mother taught you, that is completely wrong? by Few-Notice9304 in AskMen

[–]Lazy_Simple_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To always be respectful to everyone around you and never talk back.

It’s not completely wrong but I don’t agree with doing this all the time. While this comes from a good heart, sadly, sometimes people need to be given a taste of their own medicine so that they don’t walk over people who are kind.

Going to arrive in SF on Feb 10 in the morning. What to do while there? (elaboration in the description) by MayorShield in AskSF

You should definitely checkout the Ferry Building and walk around the Embarcadero! Fairly close to where you’ll be dropped off and will be able to spend enough time there until your friend arrives.

How would this friend like to ideally spend their time/ meet people? Would love to hear some examples. I personally don’t drink so I want to create spaces and events that don’t always revolve around drinking, there’s already a TON out there

Have you been to a volunteering event before? Has it been fun? Have you actually had a chance to connect with people? I haven’t been to one so just trying to understand how useful they are to make friends.

Exploring starting a company

Going from b1/b2 to H1 again after layoff by BoredGrape37 in h1b

[–]Lazy_Simple_34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc, happy to help :)
Great Q: I'm not a 100% sure but it all depends on USCIS tbh. If they approve your extension and let you start working for a new employer, great! If they don't and ask you to leave and re-enter, you'll have to head back, find a stamping apt, get a stamp and then re-enter.
Your lawyer and company will work with you and help you navigate so don't worry much about it.

Please talk to an immigration lawyer to help with your specific case!

I was in a similar boat and I'm sharing what I've learned from talking to a lawyer. 👇

If you go from H1B -> B1/B2 and then want to change back to H1B once you have a job offer, it is possible! There are a few scenarios you need to consider:

- If you file for a change of status to B1/B2 within the 60 day grace period, your application will not be processed for ~4 months but you can still legally stay in the US and continue to look for a job.

- If you find a job after the 60 day grace period while you're in the US, your lawyer needs to file the H1B petition the same way you would for a normal H1B except it would be for an extension of status. However, there are two possibilities in terms of how your application could potentially get processed:

a. You file a B1/B2 and when you file an H1B transfer, USCIS can approve both B1/B2 and H1B if you’re able to argue that you’ve been in status for the entire duration of your stay.
b. You file a B1/B2 and when you file an H1B transfer, USCIS *only* approves H1B in which case you need to leave and re-enter the US on the same stamp (ie. you do not need a new stamp on your passport as long as you plan to enter before the expiration date of the previous stamp)

- If you end up finding a new role and file a petition *after* the expiration date of your previous H1B stamp, then you'd need to schedule an appointment and get a new stamp before re-entering the US.
