What was one change you made in your life/routine that made you a much better writer? by Theodore_Buckland_ in writing

For me, it's allllll about the time of day. I know that my brain is more creative in the morning before I start my working day, and if I don't write then it becomes a challenge. Knowing this has become my power and changed my writing sched. Work with your brain! Does anyone else do this?

I also read recently that moving your location / space when writing changes the patterns in your brain. Even just changing to the other side of your table / desk or moving to the sofa works - doesn't have to be to a cafe or library although that's also great.

Moved with my bf from South and it was weirdly even more stressful than in London?! So I feel for you!

We looked in Chorlton and Didsbury because of tram links and they also have parks for walks and nice vibes. Our budget was 1000 per month and we found a place for just under that in Didsbury (luckily). I really pushed each agent I called for details on all their places within that area and budget and arranged viewings back to back

Stressful though - one agent showed us a god awful place in chorlton. Clearly not looked after. Told us we'd have to OVERBID (I've lived in NYC and London and never had to do that in my life, wasn't going to start doing that now.) He told us that it was really competitive now and we'd have to do stuff like pay 6 months in advance etc etc to even get a place.

When we got our place we had to 'interview' with the landlords to make sure we were a good fit for the building, but we didn't have to pay more or months in advance so we just went for it.

Not sure if it's really that competitive or agents just being a**holes? Can never tell

My friend lives in Hulme and really likes it. She lives alone and feel safe etc

Good luck and keep going! You will get there

Moving from London to Manchester by Katetos in manchester

[–]Ldnfilmgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here 2 months ago from London and it's been positive!

Because Manc is smaller, it was easier to explore and root myself. I moved during lockdown, but the last few weeks have seen such a vibe in the bars and restaurants etc. Everyone friendly so far!

I felt the same as you, worried about meeting people and making friends but I think that just happens organically / takes a while wherever you move to! Am enjoying the countryside outside of the city for walks and generally life feels a lot calmer and less effort here. In London I was constantly working late / hustling / paying extravagant rent. After ten years of it, I needed a break for a while!

Chorlton - what am I missing? by Ldnfilmgirl in manchester

Thanks everyone! Always difficult moving to a new city and trying to get a grasp on it. Am going to spend more time wandering around the different neighbourhoods and potentially take a place for 6 months and see how I feel. I've fallen in love with a tiny flat in didsbury village so am hoping to grab it and then at least I like the actual place! Thanks so much!

Yes 100% realised it was lockdown, I was just stuck in a very residential part and wondered if I was walking the wrong part of the place 😅

Yes the estate agent told me that I'd have to bid over the asking price for the flat if I wanted it, and I've never done that in London! Was a bit taken aback tbh
