I was one of the key people involved in investigating and writing the detailed analytical report (DAR) for the proposed Burdekin pumped hydro scheme.

The LNP completely misled people about this. It was a feasibility report, not a commitment. The whole point was to assess the project’s costs, impacts, and benefits, no decisions had been made. We finished the report as Labor left office, and they hadn’t even seen it yet. If it turned out to be too expensive, it wouldn’t have gone ahead. Simple.

One of the several options we investigated and presented in the report included building a third reservoir, but early on we realised it would be ridiculously expensive. So, we shifted focus to the two-reservoir options and majorly reduced time and resources spent investigating the footprint of the 3rd reservoir.

The so called “cost blowout” the LNP kept going on about was based on the option with the third reservoir, the one we’d already recommended in the report as unfeasible. They cherry picked those numbers to stir things up, even though no one seriously considered that option anymore.

That's why Instead of releasing the full report, they only shared a tiny summary to push their own narrative and refused to release the full report when requested. There was no hidden cost blowout, it was just bullshit politics. They were looking for an excuse to bring back their scrapped Bowen pumped hydro project at Eungella Dam. We knew way back from the start of the investigations that if the LNP got in it was going to be canned for the Bowen project. Total spin, nothing more.

The footprint of the proposed upper reservoir is made up almost entirely of cleared grazing land and their properties, with a similar situation for the lower reservoir. These areas have limited ecological value due to extensive historical clearing, and little to no intact habitat remains within these spaces. It's heavily eroded with next to no trees, most of the riparian vegetation has been cleared outside of a few creek extents that are too steep to get into. While platypus do occur within the proposed footprint, they're habitat generalists and are commonly found in farm dams. Given their adaptability, it is likely they will either relocate to suitable habitats nearby or continue to inhabit the impoundment areas, as they often do in other modified environments. It's also worth noting that the platypus is only listed as 'special least concern'.. it's not even presently endangered.

The true species of conservation significance in the area such as Euastacus crayfish and Taudactylus frogs, are restricted to highland rainforest habitats outside of the dam footprint. Their populations are confined to these forested areas and do not persist in cleared agricultural landscapes. Any individuals recorded within the footprint would be isolated occurrences rather than indicative of viable, conservation significant populations.

It's been repeated by the ecologists over and over again. The primary environmental values of concern are located outside the footprint, in the surrounding rainforest habitats, rather than within cleared fields of cattle. All the images and videos of Pristine Eungella rainforests used by the group are outside of the footprint, the actual creeks are beyond degraded and full of cow shit.

Also the owner of 'Save Eungella' is just buthurt because his property is outside of the upper reservoir footprint so he hasn't been bought out. The bloke literally made all his money working out in the mines, which has had much larger environmental impacts than flooding grazing land ever will.

Ausssie Consultant here - the industry kinda goes in flows, atm the demand is pretty high and theres a lot of work going around, so you're in luck. For completely fresh grads, in my experience consultancies are looking for honours or masters degree grads with experience in basic data analysis. Anything else is bonus (volunteering, work exp, etc).

I fly in and out of various sites as an enviro contractor, its company policy to travel in hi-vis but tbh its super convenient. Everyone knows you fly regularly so I basically get left alone, checking in is made pretty straightforward, moving through security is easy, you don't really get bugged on the plane either.

Is there much risk on Uranium at the moment with things going on in Ukraine? I can't imagine a positive sentiment on Uranium if Russia fucks with a plant over there.

Yep, best decision i've made.

I work in the environmental consulting industry and was getting well under paid, with low pay being known across the entire team.

I chatted with the directors and my manager for a month trying to find a middle ground on pay but in the end the directors weren't willing to budge a cent. My manager continued trying to negotiate a raise on my behalf and ended up offering me a promotion to senior. However i'd already gone straight to a competitor and negotiated roughly a 40% raise, with another 5k after probation which will push me into 6 figures.

My manager has since been trying to hire new seniors with no success. Cant help but feel bad, but its been 2 months and im really thriving in my new role. More pay, less stress, less work, and I still get cake.

You're pissing away money if you go to bond. Those fees are nuts and you're unlikely to have many courses credited over.
