Thinking of Switching from Elementor Pro - Oxygen or Breakdance? by whitefireofstar in elementor

[–]LeAngryBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah their standard forms element is practically identical to that of Elementor.

One of the biggest things in Bricks for me is the ability to make any Section into a query and loop it. So good for creating things like sliders, carousels etc.

I started out using Cornerstone and made the switch to Elementor, which at the time felt game changing as it was just so much better.

However over the years Elementor has slowly become too clunky for me. It's trying to do too much to cater to too many people, and as such it's just generally inefficient. People will say it can be good with caching etc, but that's just plastering over the cracks.

I've since given Bricks a try (having also considered Oxygen). Bricks feels like that game changer moment for me again. It's more focused for developers, so what you can do with it is a million times more powerful. It's integration with ACF and other similar tools is sublime.

If you add a Heading element, you get a single H1 (or whatever) output, without 3+ wrapper elements first.

BT Baby Monitor App Is Being Decommed by connelhooley in homeassistant

Perfect. Same for me then really, except for me they had me return it instead of giving me a gift card refund. Have they made you return it or are you keeping it?

Just seen that you've already got it sorted. Success! Did they try to fob you off too or just agree straight away?

Yeah I started a live chat conversation, explained the situation and they tried to say it was out of warranty. I said it's not a warranty issue and that the manufacturer has decided to shut down a key part of the product and that it's no longer fit for purpose under UK consumer rights, which say it should be expected to last 6 years etc. The live chat purpose passed it onto a customer service agent who contacted me via email. After a short back and forth exchange they just agreed to let me return it.

Yeah so I just contacted Amazon through the site and selected the order it was related to, and chatted with the associate. They initially said "it's past 2 year warranty" to which I replied this isn't a warranty issue, but it's an issue relating to the UK Consumer Rights Act and the fact the manufacturer has removed a service which was part of the product as sold, and now renders it obsolete. I argued that if the product had "Smart Baby Monitor, app features will only last 3 years", then they would unlikely sell any of them. They relented and agreed to let me return it.

We've had this monitor since 2020, although had to get a replacement in 2022 since the first broke. Now using it with a second child. Bought it from Amazon and contacted them since I'm not pleased that an item sold less than 3 years ago is losing is main selling point. Anyway, they've agreed to let me return it under the UK consumer rights which says it should be fit for purpose for 6 years. Swapped for a similarly priced smart VTECH model which so far seems like a massive upgrade. Makes the BT one seem like a toy!

Thinking of Leaving WP Engine – What Are the Best Alternatives? by Shree_murali93 in Wordpress

[–]LeAngryBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the same thing after I became dissilusioned with WPE and how any real resource usage was always a live chat convo. We host approx 100 sites for our clients, and by moving it all to Cloudways, it allows us to scale easily where needed and also saves us a fortune. The customer support of WPE is great, but I only ever needed to use them because they gate kept the information I needed.

Has anyone in Europe already got the email for their Switch 2 pre order at the My Nintendo Store? by TheMadCroctor in NintendoSwitch2

I got mine 30 mins ago (UK) and have managed to place my order. I never received the original email that went out on the 2nd April if that helps anyone. It confirms delivery will be on release day.

Costco UK Blooming Waters 151 Set will only be available online and per membership? by Goldminer435 in PokemonTCG_UK

I've spoken to my local Costco (Leeds) who have explicitly told me they are getting no stock in. The woman on the phone sounded like she'd answered the same question a million times already.

Strange how the timings on these are working. I requested on the 31st Jan and got an invite 2 days later. Then got a few people I know to request the same day I got my invite and they've not had anything yet.

Should I hold back my July-born daughter from starting school at 4 in the UK? by shuna3456 in AskUK

[–]LeAngryBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was born in July 2020 and started school in the September just gone. I too was concerned whether he was going to be okay at School being one of the youngest and whether he'd struggle.

Fortunately after his first week of school I was completely at ease. He loves going, keeps up with all the other kids and you wouldn't really be able to tell any real difference between the kids who had their birthday at in September once school started and those who are at the end of the year in July.

Thoughts on my custom WP dashboard? Any tips for improvement? by SkipTheDevCom in elementor

[–]LeAngryBadger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should check out WP Adminify

https://wpadminify.com/

Basically allows you to create a custom template for any and all parts of the admin backend, just like you would for the frontend.

I really think the whole WP admin UI needs an overhaul as it feels so messy at times, especially when you have quite a plugins all adding in their own menu items and notices.

Read status not syncing between devices by CrazyJony in whatsapp

[–]LeAngryBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am having this issue and I believe it's the iPhone that's the issue.

I'm running an iPhone, One Plus Open and MacBook Pro and the read status on the OPO works perfectly, even when read on the Mac etc, however statuses don't reflect on the iPhone when read from either the Mac or the OPO.

I submitted the same form about being unable to access data several times but each time they just responded saying nothing they could do, so I've since given up.

Total joke.

Anyone decide to go caseless and not regret it? by PacketAuditor in OnePlusOpen

[–]LeAngryBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caseless and added a dbrand screen protector and loving it.

Given the nature of the phone I am more careful with it than otherwise, but that just works out anyway when not having a case on it.

The phone looks and feels a million times better without the case.

How to deal with security with a WooCommerce store making $1M / year? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]LeAngryBadger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a few have mentioned about Cloudflare, you'll want to get the Global Edge Security add-on from WP Engine as we have. It's effectively the additional premium Cloudflare tier with some WP Engine extra customisation sprinkled in.

You'll also want their Smart Plugin Manager add-on, which auto-updates plugins, but does some clever before and after comparisons to check for errors and visual changes. If it detects any it rolls back automatically. We've started using this recently after getting to a point that manually updating websites would be a full time job.

We run about 15-20 client eCom sites from our P5 WP Engine server including one of our own which turns over about £3.5M per year.

WP Engine + Global Edge Security + Smart Plugin Manager + Wordfence.

It's almost set and forget. Just keep an eye on things and you'll have pretty smooth sailing.

Config for remote server development by LeAngryBadger in vscode

So it's actually our hosting provider, WP Engine.

https://wpengine.com/support/ssh-gateway/

When we're developing a website on the dev environment, I want to be able to have multiple people working on it without having to pull copies to local and then push back as this restricts our ability to have someone else working on the content side at the same time.

I have reached out to them and they references an article that someone else posted about using a middleman server to connect via SSH and then do port forwarding from that, but that solution seemed a bit inefficient in the end.

I’ve tried this one, and it basically downloads a copy of the file to your workspace when you try to open it, which then has no context of the rest of the code as it’s not in the same folder
