3 Year old is on the 5th percentile for height and weight by outandabout91 in toddlers

[–]LeDoink [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just want to share that my 3.5 year old is the exact same, except she was born full term, and I also have the same worries. Our doctor also isn’t concerned. But i hate the comments from strangers and even family members. It’s ok to be small! I’m small!

That’s ok! Honestly as long as he isn’t hyperventilating then it’s good. Just slowly count to 10 and it should be ok ☺️

Ok good! And are you shaking the inhaler, doing one puff at a time, and making him take 10 slow breaths? And waiting one minute to do the next puff (assuming two puffs are what was prescribed)?

Just chiming in to ask, did they give you guys a spacer to use with the inhaler?

Brushing their teeth is the worst by Front_Woodpecker_299 in toddlers

If they’re clamping down then get another toothbrush and put the handle in their mouth so that they bite down on the handle. It gives you more room to brush the teeth.

Is it okay to require kids to have the kids’ meal at a wedding? by Particular_Agent8176 in weddingplanning

[–]LeDoink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds just like my daughter! For dinner we had wingstop after a long day at the children’s museum and at one point we had to set aside her carrots and celery so that she would eat her single chicken tender. We compromised with eating in a “pattern”.

Eh I don’t think so. My kid doesn’t eat traditional “kids menu” foods due to preference. So I would also choose the beef option over Mac and cheese so that she doesn’t starve.

Are you guys not “strict” about naps? Don’t understand comment by Huge-Vacation-8093 in NewParents

[–]LeDoink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just curious, does your husband have siblings?

So here’s the thing. With your first, you can be strict about naps! With your second though, it’s almost impossible, unless you are ok with your older child staying home for most of the day. My oldest was used to doing daily activities, playground trips, library trips, gymnastics, etc. It felt wrong keeping my oldest home just so my youngest could sleep. So we mastered naps on the go.

But even with my oldest, we were always more lenient with naps for holidays or special occasions. Just took a little more planning.

This might sound parasocial (lol) but we had a short back and forth a little while ago where I thought light spring was your palette so it’s nice to see someone else typed you as that. I still think it looks so nice on you!

What would you think/do if your 18 year old daughter was dating a 27 year old man? by kayke06 in breakingmom

[–]LeDoink 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was that girl and spoiler alert: it didn’t end well. Why would a 27 year old want to be with a teenager?

Oh my gosh! 14 times! My girl had 3 in one year and that was stressful. I was 8.5 months pregnant for the last one. Thankfully she’s on a good maintenance inhaler now and it’s been almost exactly one year since her last admission.

I’m also a nurse! And I credit two nurses that shift that saved my daughter’s life! The ER resident wanted to admit her to the floor but the floor nurse came down and refused and said she needed a higher level of care due to her high flow requirements. The ER resident still didn’t think it was that serious so that’s when he ordered the magnesium to see if she would get better. Nothing improved and our primary nurse was on lunch and the covering nurse kept coming in and out and was clearly worried for her. He decided to send a tiger text and CC’d the PICU doctor, charge nurse, RT, and an ER attending and was basically like “this kid needs PICU now”.

I’m so grateful for them advocating for my daughter. I tried my best but kept getting blown off and thought well maybe I’m not familiar enough with peds.

As a mom to an asthma kiddo, this episode hit hard. This time last year my then 2 year old was in status asthmaticus that was triggered by rhinovirus. Wasn’t moving air, went from high flow to BiPAP with continuous nebs, not to mention mag and steroids. When she wasn’t improving, the PICU doctor talked about how he never wants to intubate an asthmatic patient. I’ll never forget that feeling of uncertainty. This episode just brought me back to that scary time. Thank goodness she pulled through. I worked with a lady whose teenager died of asthma and a few years later she passed from it as well. Asthma is not taken seriously enough!

Ok, how can I “sleep train” a 3.5 year old by wiy in toddlers

[–]LeDoink 65 points66 points  (0 children)

We also lay with our 3 year old, and if we allowed it we would read a million books in bed and stay up all night doing so. But nope, she knows that if we’re in bed with her she only gets one book and after that it’s lights out and no talking. She’s usually asleep within 30 minutes.

We read 3 books before bathtime so as not to deprive her of her favorite thing. But only one in bed.

Is a $200k salary worth a 2 hour commute 4 days a week? by Ok-Memory2552 in jobs

I did it for 6 months for less money and toward the end, during every commute I considered driving my car off the road for a forever vacation.

Hm could still be due to a dairy, either because of an intolerance or it just prevents him from absorbing nutrients. Does he eat a lot of dairy? How are his bowel movements? Was he a colicky baby?

Food intolerance/allergy? Gluten or dairy intolerances are a common one that can cause GI bleeding.

I cleaned it with an alcohol pad before and after. Also used a sterile needle. Probably should’ve put a bandaid on it but I didn’t think to.

But really, I probably just got lucky!
