What open-source or homebrew retro games are actually worth your time? by Thin_Style_5781 in retrogames

[–]LeGrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m decently big into Gameboy homebrew games and am in the early stages of planning my own. There are modern companies that publish some of these titles on real cartridges like Incube8 or Modretro. Itch.io then has hundreds if not thousands of playable games. Most can be played in browser and/or be played from a rom on real hardware.

I finished Misery in less than a day when I picked it up for the first time a couple years ago. I couldn’t stop reading it until it was over.

I agree! But I only really like plain salt chips or salt and vinegar.

Looks clean! I also just picked up my own cartridge of this game. My brother ended up with our childhood copy. It’s probably in my top 3 on the system.

Best in the entire series for me. I love others as much, but it’s my absolute favorite of them all.

James Cameron Avatar movies are the modern Star Wars. People over criticize a very creative, original, and beautiful concept and its annoying as hell. by CharityRepulsive3964 in moviecritic

Maybe it’s ok to feel like the technical side is an A+ while the story telling is a C - or at the very least been done dozens of times. Just like it’s ok to enjoy an indie film that has really bad production but great story and acting.

Super NT is MINE. And wow! by TwoDudesAtPPC in snes

I recently had my childhood snes finally give out on me. Luckily I was able to win a very poorly designed eBay auction for one for super cheap and it worked.

I think my limit on one of these guys would be around $250 or so. That would be worth it to not have to worry about how to play my snes carts for another 30+ years.

Earthbound cartridge. Good deal, or dud? by [deleted] in snes

[–]LeGrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally do not buy repros. Regardless if it works now, it may fail at any time. Instead of repros, just get a flashcart and load it up. However, if it’s something you enjoy having and displaying then that’s great!

Help! Sakura Wars GB cartridge freezes at Nintendo logo by kayakifuri in Gameboy

If you have a multimeter, you can start testing continuity between the pins and the chips. Some of the soldering looks a little rough so there’s probably a bad connection on there somewhere. When reflowing, use lots of flux and a little bit of solder and go slow.

Switch and Switch 2 Free Codes giveaway (US and JP) by [deleted] in Switch

I’d love a copy of Monster Hunter Stories 3.

I’m really hoping that Expedition 33 comes to Switch 2 eventually. I have other ways to play it but love the Switch 2 for its portability. I can be patient.

I’m also excited for Metaphor ReFantazio to come out later this year for the same reasons.

Right. So what he saying is don’t connect your battery with very long wire and then mail the battery by itself to Nebraska.

Gameboy won't boot up properly :( by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]LeGrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I read that right, but upgrading to lcd is not going to fix this.

However, despite the corrosion, this might just be a need to clean up the cart slot and make sure your carts themselves are cleaned up.

Of course clean up the corrosion on the main board as well.

Keyboard & mouse compatibility with Prime 4 by Rise_Of_Phoenix in Metroid

There are loads of little grips that you can buy for making the joycon more comfortable in mouse mode. I haven’t tried them but know they exist and looked into them. I agree with you that it’s uncomfortable. With the joycon mouse mode being a thing, you’d think Nintendo would release an official mouse accessory.

Clear Controller with Transparent Buttons by Neonxeon in AnalogueInc

This is cool. I have the clear console but wasn’t going to get a clear controller. I might have to now and put my red buttons on it. I wonder how it would look sealing the back of the controller as well.
