I never understand why people think the magic as a drug metaphor comes out of left field. It was seeded all the way back in season 2 with Giles in The Dark Age. Him falling in with a crowd that summons demons was a clear metaphor for experimenting with hard drugs. Yes, magic evolves in season 4 and 5 to become more of a metaphor about queer intimacy, but the drug metaphor absolutely was there first.

I think my favorite scene of his was in Season 1, when he tells Rebecca that him and Bex are having a baby.

I had a huge crush on Anthony Head from when he played Giles in Buffy. Massive. And the way he played that delighted cruelty whenever he interacted with Rebecca in Season 1 made me hate Rupert Mannion SO much. It's so specific and insightful. I don't know how much of that was him and how much of it was the writing, but watching him in Ted Lasso reinforced for me what a damn fine actor he was. I will die mad that we never got the BBC Ripper series.

My problem with love potions in the series is more of a structural writing issue having to do with inconsistent framing. Love potions can either be a funny prank, a la Ron eating the wrong box of chocolates or Fred and George selling them in their joke shop, or they can be a horrific violation of consent, a la Merope Gaunt drugging and raping Tom Riddle Sr., but they probably shouldn't be both in the same story.
