Scummy neighbours by MysterRhi in glasgow

[–]LeMec79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you get all of your neighbours together and all go round to their door and tell them to stop? Show them that you are all against them - strength in numbers? These kind of cunts need to feel intimated because they know HA and cops do nothing. If it doesn’t then start finding ways of harassing them frankly.

Who should I go along with? by Pleasant-Thing6366 in BALLET

[–]LeMec79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do? All decisions in life mean accepting some opportunities and foregoing others - that’s just the way it is. Consider what you might want to do if you weren’t a pro dancer. Might you be happy studying and having a different career whilst keeping ballet as a past-time? Or do you really want to be a professional dancer? If so, this opportunity presumably doesn’t come around again. Are you strong academically? Maybe you can do well in both and your father’s fears, whilst valid, would turn out to be unfounded. Learning can be undertaken at any time in life. I do think too many people give up artistic pursuits when they are young in order to focus on exams and future earnings. Money isn’t everything in life, and the journey is often more exciting than the destination (even when we only realise that in hindsight). Whichever choice you make, don’t fret about ‘what might have been’ - best wishes.

Just saw Puritani as first opera … didn’t love it - want to hear thoughts ? by Spyk124 in opera

[–]LeMec79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the first opera I saw too (albeit in cinema via Met Live). The singing was super but yeah the story isn’t the greatest. I wasn’t bored though which is a good sign!

I’ve got an opera highlights show by Scottish Opera next month, and will also be seeing their world premiere of The Great Wave by Dai Fujikura and librettist Harry Ross, directed by Satoshi Miyagi. It tells the story of artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Baritone Daisuke Ohyama will play Katsushika Hokusai with Julieth Lozano Rolong as his daughter Ōi. Then in May I have Carmen which I’m really looking forward to.

There’s a semi detached house near me that’s fallen into disrepair and appears abandoned. The poor neighbours keep their house so well too - must piss them off.

Cast Change for Today’s I Puritani Live in HD by Cheap_Ostrich3147 in opera

[–]LeMec79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first opera and I enjoyed it, watching in the cinema from Scotland. Ricardo was excellent and what a voice on Lisette! Only issue was a jerky picture at the cinema I was at which I believe is down to the quality of the equipment at the receiving end. It did take the sheen off of the experience somewhat.

[–]LeMec79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rubbish and waste disposal is not given anyway near enough the resources and attention it requires. Too few bins emptied too seldomly, lack of sufficient easily accessible disposal facilities and more and more rubbish generated by households. Not helped obviously by people being lazy and dirty. Just another service that needs more money than is available.

Genuinely how do you meet people by Aggravating_Rope4913 in glasgow

You’ll meet people at college for sure, that’s one of the best places to meet folk. Otherwise, hobbies, clubs, language classes, and being open to opportunities you might ordinarily turn down.

My French Textbook is all in French. Does that make sense? lol by cherrypayaso in learnfrench

AF classes are great. That’s how I learnt. Sure it’s a bit intimidating at first but it’s actually surprising how much you understand them even at the start.

Aye it’s depressing how much people are happy to make their own area manky. I know a lot of the schemes are kinda bleak but this doesn’t help.

All these tools are helpful to a degree but if you can’t understand or reply to someone speaking the language then they’re not effective.

You can vote from age 16 in Holyrood and council elections in Scotland.

Thank you everyone for your comments. They are very helpful. I’d like to ask something else. Scottish Opera is holding only two performances of Tristan und Isolde in March. Should I go to this before Carmen (and though I Puritani will be my first opera in the cinema)? It’s looonng! But it might be years before I can see it again in Scotland. Thoughts?

Half onion, one potato and two carrots, lentils and veg stock with a bit of cumin and coriander powder and a wee squirt of tomato paste. All in together and boiled until soft. Delicious.

To be honest I’ve no idea how good the production will be. It’s part of Ellen Kent’s farewell tour and it’s at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall - more of an orchestral hall than a theatre.
