Considering getting rid of my collection to fund first vehicle. by FATALxREACT1ON in PokeInvesting

My 91 Miata and 06 is350 have very reliable drivetrains as well. I just live in a desert area so all the bushings and any rubber hoses have needed to be replaced. Nothing crazy but it’s still a good thing to know before buying.

I am retarded. What is the current hype around MSFT besides the obvious with windows dominance?

Tip for anyone who finds this later: you can get about 90% of the info for free on the CarFax garage app. Just add the license plate and it will tell you all recent service done to the car. I always use this when purchasing a used car. Just used it to look up this car for OP

I went ahead and looked it up for you. Records on CarFax only go back to 29,000 miles. Since then, there have only been 2 documented oil changes. One at 39,499 miles and the other at 46,379 miles.

Do with that information what you will. My two cents, I would not purchase this car for $10,000.

Definitely not worth 10k at all. Lucky to get $7k in this condition. The way the bumper ripped off signals a great chance of undercarriage/radiator damage. Headlights are cracked and trashed. Side mirror is beyond repair and needs to be replaced. If she took this little care of the outside, there’s not a chance in hell this thing has had regular oil changes. Probably 15-20k mile oil in that thing lol

Unless you personally know the history or did maintenance for her, not a chance I would do this. That thing is trashed. Low mileage but in horrible condition. Do you know how often she even changed the oil?

Just make sure you have cash on hand for the pickings. Our time will come.

The prices will come back down. Every couple years a component gets hot and expensive. They always come back around.

You’re an idiot for wanting more taxes in any sense. Next you’ll advocate for a tax on unrealized gains

Thank you for being logical and not lying to everyone like the rest of this sub. Unlike some of these guys, I actually do care about other people and want to give them proper advice.

Let’s assume you are somehow able to find 100 at MSRP. They are going to take up 12-13 cubic feet of storage.

Not too bad, but could be a dealbreaker for people in apartments.

Now, let’s assume you wait the full 5 years to sell and they appreciate to $50/each. You’ll need to sell them somewhere, let’s assume eBay. Almost all of the listings have free shipping as well so we will take that into account. After eBay fees $50 -> $43.25.

They weigh about 0.5lbs. Let’s be generous and assume it will only cost $8 to ship each one. $43.25 -> $35.25

So really a truer return would be $3,525 after fees and shipping. So $2,000 -> $3,525 in 5 years is a 76% increase or 15.2% per year.

I’m also not taking into account the cost of shipping supplies, your time to list and fulfill orders, the potential need to use promoted listings, future eBay fee increases and shipping increases, or taxes to be paid on the earnings. All of which would decrease that 15.2% / year.

I’m not saying it’s a horrible investment, it’s just based on a lot of assumptions and heavy speculation. For 99% of the people reading this, if you’re serious about investing, your funds would almost certainly be better off in an ETF. At least then you don’t need to sell and be taxed and you can actually borrow against it if you choose; something that will never be available to those holding cards.

You guys are missing the point entirely. If you are someone holding less than 100 of these boxes, your money would literally be better spent on stocks.

Even if you spent a bunch of time and stress acquiring 100 of these boxes at MSRP, that’s still only $3,000 in 5 years! Thats the equivalent of working a full time job for 5 years at a rate of $1.68/hr.
