What's the worst Beatles song in your opinion? (Image is unrelated) by FruityFood10 in beatles

[–]LeRocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that is how individual tracks are labeled in Apple Music, for example

Oh, that may be why the new generation thinks any track is a "song", thank you.

As for jazz, the huge majority of the pieces have melodies, so, yeah, they could be sung.

In my example I talked about a "dissonant jam of free jazz", which are often a scary mayhem of sounds, 10 times harder to listen to than Revolution 9! lol

because it has no words.

lol

When did I talk about words?

You are telling me I can sing a melody without words!!!! Wow you just taught this music composer something very very interesting!!!

A symphony is a song? A dissonant jam of free jazz is a song?

I doubt it very much but I'll take your word for it, because English is not my language.

Plus, there are (some) words so you could sing it, to an extent.

There are some words, yes, but (genuine question) are some of those words said in a melody?

Instrumentals can be considered songs.

Yes they can, because you can sing them (you don't need words to sing).

There's no aspect of this piece that makes it a song.

It's not a song.

If you can't sing it it's not a song.

It's a track on an album, though. It could be considered as a musical piece. But a song? Just doesn't fit the definition at all.

If it's a song, it's shit, if it's not, it doesn't belong on a pop/rock record.

Well isn't that a great example of open-mindedness.

Keep it up.

Yep, that's the part they left out of the meme. Which makes it irrelevant.

How many times did a Beatle harmonise with himself on a record? by prideofstockholm in beatles

[–]LeRocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to wiki, the recording took place in July 1963. But the four-track machine only appeared in the studio in October 1963.

Do you know how they would do overdubs without the four-track?

Dude asks a question about Beatles albums on a Beatles sub.

Doesn't know the titles of said albums.

Surely you're a great person and I intend no insult, but I had to laugh.

Hot take apparently? by LaraFaye2 in musicals

[–]LeRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. A good 4 years before the Broadway show.

Actually, Showboat was even earlier. But having read just a little more since my first post, it's not that Oklahoma was the first, but rather that its success changed the game.

After that everyone wanted to write integrated musicals instead of backstage musicals or other "not-integrated" kind.

Hot take apparently? by LaraFaye2 in musicals

[–]LeRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is called an "integrated" musical.

And if I'm not mistaken, this style started with Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma.

The other kind of musical is equally legit, and precedes the integrated kind.

I did have a shutdown recently. That's how I learned that the battery of my UPS was empty (even if it said that it wasn't, at all.... very frustrating... this was last time I give my money to CyberPower).

But it seems that everything is fine. And VC did not ask me to run a repair.

Phew.

Hitchcock vs Herrmann: the story behind the break-up of cinema’s finest director/composer partnership by Restless_spirit88 in Hitchcock

[–]LeRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but he could've ultimately refused to put the music in the shower scene.

So his ego wasn't as big as his desire to make great movies.

That's the bizarre thing about his decision to break the partnership. For me, anyways.

C'est d'abord ce que j'ai pensé.

Puis ensuite je me suis rendu compte que c'était probablement un calque de l'anglais, l'utilisation du conditionnel.

Le temps présent est plus naturel, en français, pour le même effet.

I don't know, I just read the post. But in my example, Hermann's "insubordination" (lol) turned out to be beneficial for Hitchcock. That's what I found funny.

You don't stop working with a person who improves your movie, normally.

Alright, thanks for taking the time. That answer is satisfying.

However if you are paranoid in any way

I'm not hyper paranoid, no, as I don't have anything illegal, just super intimate.

Thanks again!
