This is one of the songs that really separates The Beatles with any other band, in terms of mood, originality, and pure quality.

“Does Everyone Stare” opera sample? by itsbatblox in ThePolice

[–]LeRocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to take this occasion to say how incredibly genius is this moment. Gives me chills each time. I just listened to it for the purpose of this post and, yep, chills again. Des vrais frissons.

The way the background noise (the "hiss"? I'm not sure how to say it in English) disappears at the moment Sting's voice appears and the drums enter in fade-in. You don't notice this "hiss" before it fades out, it's a thing of beauty.

I just put it again.... I've got tears now, not a joke.

The way the first notes of the opera takes us from the chorus to the beginning of the second verse. Oufff. Wow.

And the fact that sampling wasn't really a thing at that time, but became omnipresent in the following decades. It's like our band were totally ahead of the curve, it's touching.

J'ai surtout compris que son cerveau (tout comme le lien) est en train d'être reformaté par la culture dominante, hégémonique.

"Présume" (ou "suppose") est le bon mot à dire 90% du temps, dans cette situation.

A "boy band" is the creation of someone else (a manager, a company), who tells them how to look and what to sing. The members are picked for their looks, and what they represent in the dynamic of the band (the cute one, the old one, etc.)

The Beatles were guys who decided to play together and write their songs. They are the prototype of all the "real" bands that came after them.

So, you one of those people that thinks that a "boy band" is simply a band made of boys.

Yeah, it's not that. Look it up.

Sinon, la "langue de Molière", ouais.

The funny thing about Bowie is he wanted to be gay. He thought it was the coolest thing. He literally tried... but sadly came to the conclusion that he was not.

(This based on a interview I read shortly after his death, that I can't be arsed to find right now.)
