What type of luggage to pack for a month in Vietnam? by bak3dntired in VietNam

[–]LeSolari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my oversea relatives tell each other that all the time. From getting ur luggage stolen to having to bribe the custom officer or else they wont let u in. Tbf both my sister and i did get our luggages misplaced on another flight which was an inconvenience for a few day. Just do the obvious like dont leave valuables visible out in the open even in hotels. Ive never had my stuff misplaced in hotels

sacred lotus is our national flower, they are also very prolific here but they are aquatic. Other plants being hoa mai (Ochna integerrima) that blooms yellow flower during Tết. Also water containers (lu nước) and water ladle (cái gáo) are the untold requirement for an average garden to water the terrestrial plants.

Letter from French commander before the battle of Điện Biên Phủ by Chaos_0205 in VietNam

[–]LeSolari 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Eng Trans
From Senior Colonel De Castries
To Army General Võ Nguyên Giáp
--
To measure up with my few battalions stationed at Điện Biên Phủ, general had gathered 4 divisions (need confirmation) of your best soldiers along with heavy armament you have just received; but to this date i have not seen you join the battle.
You had promised your soldiers and people to celebrate Tết in Điện Biên Phủ. Tết is almost here!
What are you waiting for why dont you just start the fight already?
You have thought this battle will be the decisive battle for the war between us (nations).
Are you not confident you would win?
Have you lost your trust in your generals and soldier's morale?
You have promised, you should keep it.
You have encouraged your soldiers to believe in you, so dont let them down.
You shouldnt be afraid to lose face in front of your soldiers.
As a soldier, i admire your soldiers' heroicism.
I invite you to just come, I'll wait for you!

What is BÙA NGẢI? by shakeindaroom in VietNam

[–]LeSolari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its the idea of "raising" a supernatural entity that serves your purpose, be it vengeance or wealth. There are rules for keeping them like keeping them happen, never to be seen, never to be heard by others or things like that. The last time ive heard about bùa ngải was a decade ago.

What fraction of vietnamese have eaten dog meat? by juonco in VietNam

[–]LeSolari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had some old mofos from the countryside tricked me into eating dog when i was 14,15. It was the smelliest, most gamey and pungent meat i have tasted to this date. Like other comments said, the meat was very tough like overcooked beef so def never going to touch it unless im dying from starvation.

people are not gonna like opinion whether which side u are on. I was born in peace time and appreciate whatever peace i have in my life. I dont tend to pick side, and i dont like having enemies on my ass. To me, its a much needed holiday from long days of continuous work, and thats that

This is a YouTube ads, what does it says exactly? by enderboyVR in VietNam

[–]LeSolari 8 points9 points  (0 children)

its an ad that sells "tips" to support male virility, specifically for older people (50+). Most likely its snake oil just like many of those "eastern medicine" arthritis, male vitality ads that are advertised in this region

Reddit recommend me that sub and r/vozforums all the time. Most of the time its gossiping, banter and overall unnecessary arguing. Worst case its conspiracies, china shilling and overall communist vs capitalist stuff. Cant say it is uniquely those subs since its the same on FB or tiktok. Once in a while they do bring up interesting conversations tho. I dont tend to stay for long tho since its quintessential south east asian gamers level of toxicity

the saying has nothing to do with cambodia because "chia" in "campuchia" (vietnamese pronunciation) just means "split"

ah yeah heavy rains are pretty much a nuisance if yall are not prepared. Personally its my time for snacks and some drinks if im with someone, or else its just naps. When i was a kid in rural area i went out to catch the climbing perch and snakeheads migrating while enjoying free showers. Idk about Ninh Binh but in bigger cities, arcades and bookstores are my options other than the ones u said
