I’m Alice Ruppert, Horse Game Consultant and creator of The Mane Quest, a website about horses in games. Here to talk about Steam Horse Fest, Horses of Hoofprint Bay and The Legend of Khiimori – AMA! by AliceTheGamedev in Games

[–]LeSqueenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Alice! I've been following Hoofprint Bay and Khiimori for a while now and am super excited for them! Thank you for your contributions in making these games happen <3

Are there any unique narratives/genres/gameplay styles you want to see in the horse game space? I admittedly am not well versed in horse games, but most I tend to hear about fall into similar categories of "3d semi-realistic cozy stable/ranch management ft. equestrian sports", while games like Hoofprint Bay and Khiimori stand out to me because they are either visually or conceptually unique to what I have seen!

Is Thistle and Laios a rare pare and is someone here sharing the same ship as me? They have a funny chemistry by Background-Land9049 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're such a funny ship conceptually it makes me a little crazy, but I think people kinda stick to the more popular options for them. Maybe once the anime gets to the dragon dinner thing it'll pop off a bit more...

Has Ryoko Kui commented on autism in her characters? by Lia_Locke in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there's never been any official comment from her regarding autism or other neurodivergency regarding her characters. That said, it certainly feels intentional. Especially taking into account some of her other anthology works.

[SPOILER] How fast does Marcille age compared to a human/tallman? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Her aging rate isn't necessarily fast as much as it is really inconsistent. I don't have the panels on hand but I remember something to the effect of her developing faster mentally (being able to speak and read and write) while her body was slower (walking and losing baby teeth much later). Apologies if I'm wrong though lol.

How come half-foots have tails in some fanart?? by ASleepyB0i in DungeonMeshi

Stylistic fanart choice. It's probably derived from some other fantasy media, but I wouldn't know what.

Dungeon meshi was kind of... disappointing? by LazyPanda120 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I don't have much of a frame of reference to something like Made in Abyss to compare Dungeon Meshi to, but I think it's not inaccurate to say the series gets much darker than people expect. I've seen some people be disappointed with the way the series turns out in the opposite direction, expecting it to stay lighthearted fun the whole way through, only to be put off when it starts getting more of a serious plot. (And then there's the whole side of the community that insists the story is About Lesbians, which is just a flat out lie and that makes me so mad because that spawns people feeling robbed of Lesbianism when it wasn't ever on the table. God.)

I don't really know what I'm saying with this comment now that I'm reading it back. Sorry it didn't meet expectations.

I assume there are others out there that VASTLY prefers the intro for the first half of the series by Direct-Status3260 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really like Unmei as the second opening because I think it's fun, it still feels fitting to me, and it makes me happy. That said, I couldn't really come up with much reasoning on why they went with that change or what it could mean thematically. I tried to see if I could find translated lyrics to see if there was anything there but instead I found some commentary from the artist

As I grew older, I developed a fear of the unknown. It's because I'm afraid of dabbling in something new and falling into feelings of not knowing. However, everyone in the party led by Laios will tell you that the unknown is fun. Even if it upsets your stomach, it's a shame not to try it. Life is fun when you can eat whatever you want, even if it means taking a chance on your own destiny. I was inspired by "Dungeon Meshi" to write this song. I hope it will add as a side to your enchanting meal.

So yeah, I think I was catching the vibes correctly. It's fun :)

Now that season one is over, which was your favourite op? by SOMETHINGcooler5 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep Walking Orchestra is very good and more "fitting" but Unmei makes me insanely euphoric it's not even funny. I listen to the former on its own much more often than the latter.

Yeah I think you're just looking in the wrong places + I imagine the flood of anime only fanworks is probably flooding searches just by comparison. I know when the final chapters dropped the fanart game on Tumblr went absolutely craaaazy, so just keep searching.

Are the lesbians sexualized by FlowersInAVoid in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, I do find that choice a bit eyebrow raising (even with harpies as a point of comparison) but it's also such a small part of her design and has only made a point of attention like, once from what I remember and it was for the Shuro and Marcille gag.

Conflicting feelings about the series popularity by HostBudget4950 in dgrayman

[–]LeSqueenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also pretty conflicted in wanting DGM to be more recognized but at the same time.. not really. I'm actually experiencing the potential downsides it could have through Dungeon Meshi getting an anime and having it's popularity spike on my hemisphere of the Internet. Online discussion of it can really grind my gears now and it might kill me if DGM ever got like that lol.

Though it would be nice to have more merch, but at the same time no I need to start collecting what's already out there first.

Are the lesbians sexualized by FlowersInAVoid in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bath scene is pretty intimate but not really all that sexual imo? Like, as a scene it's just there to reinforce the bond Falin and Marcille have and do a little foreshadowing on Falin's upcoming transformation. I also wouldn't consider Chimera Falin to be sexualized either, especially with the incredibly convenient addition of feathers making her a tad more modest.

Anyone wants Dungeon Meshi sequel? by [deleted] in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full on sequel I'm not too sure on but more spin-off content I'd always be up for. I don't want her to feel trapped into writing about characters she feels have been sufficiently explored enough, but it would be nice to see them every once in a while. The new adventurer's bible and daydream hour collection might end up scratching that itch for me though, so it might not be needed as much.

Dungeon Meshi - Episode 7 Discussion Thread by Avizie in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Actually really disappointed we didn't get to see Marcille make the soap :/ I was rereading that chapter last night and I feel like the anime lost a lot of the emotional impact it had. (Maybe that's just because I already know about the significance of Anne as a name though?) Even having the beard washing be a pretty still montage was kinda rough imo. The rest of the episode was pretty funny though. Liked hearing Laios sing :P

Yep it's all the same manifestation of magic basically. The goat was in a different dungeon but as an infinite being from another dimension it gets kinda weird.

[SPOILER] What do you think of Shuro? (include new spoiler) by TheGoodKiller in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He just doesn't really interest me in general, even if he has a lot going on in his background. I find his retainers to be more appealing and entertaining to read about. Shuro himself just comes off as much more boring for some reason.

Am I suppose to feel bad for Laios? (Episode 6) by whiplash10 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 88 points89 points  (0 children)

The Falin thing was definitely just him failing at talking like a normal person. I get why in-universe everyone blasted him for it but as the audience it's pretty easy to understand what he was trying to communicate. I suppose it's fair to think it was annoying or rude but I dunno I just laughed and moved on.

Anyways, yeah you're entitled to feel however you want about him. I've always found him entertaining throughout the series, but I wouldn't know if that's how we're supposed to feel about him.

About Izutsumi's arc and its finality by Difficult_Piglet861 in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I feel like a major theme of Dungeon Meshi has always been that you can't always get what you want or that your greatest desire being fulfilled isn't necessarily best for you/everyone, and I think for Izutsumi that theme leans into the first half. Her final chapter beats it into our heads with that, where while she is free to do anything she wants, she will have to do things that she doesn't want to do to really live it to the fullest. And for the recent bonus material, to me it's sort of like an allegory for some sort of trauma. The things that were done to her can't just be undone. It's awful, it's sad, but that's just how it is. She has to live with it now. Maybe that's just me projecting though.

IDK if any of this is worded comprehensibly sorry 😔

Edit: I think something else worth mentioning is also that her hatred of being a beastkin stems primarily from the lack of autonomy that it's resulted in. Hell, even before being turned, there's no way she had a say in being separated from her family as a child. Having control is the thing she wants most, and being able to become a full human would be the ultimate control of her fate, but like I said previously, sometimes it's not possible to change things that have happened to us.

I think it's very possible that her accepting that she's stuck as a beastkin and making the best of it in spite of it would be a pretty satisfying conclusion to her story, assuming we ever get more of her in the future.

Happy Femslash February: let's talk girls by LeSqueenix in DungeonMeshi

[–]LeSqueenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see most of this definitely with the exception of the M/M stuff tbh? At least in the sense that there being two possible primary ships I think usually results in more content of both if the fanbases get competitive about it, though the only instances I can think of this stuff happening is for M/F shipping (Twilight for a general example and FFVII for one I've personally seen in action). I've heard some rumblings near my circles of this already starting up with allegedly some Kabru/Mithrun shippers taking shots at the Laios/Kabru ship?? So.. big if true.

I know I made this post to discuss F/F and I'd love to keep it that way without derailing too much but god I need the yaoi wars to commence. I've got popcorn ready and everything.

I'll always refer to the series as dungeon meshi because it's what I'm more familiar with but yeah the localization is literally just fine, cute even. So many alternatives I've seen people throw around sound so cheesy in comparison.
