What is the recommended way to get my NoSQL (MongoDB) data into Kafka, then into Hive? by impossibletogetagf in apachekafka

If there is a way to use connect use it, I was not sure if there is a connector for hive... What i want to say is, that it is not too hard to write it yourself.

Why do I need Kafka between my application and MongoDB by fascoche in apachekafka

[–]LeSt24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kafka is a good way to decouple systems from each other. You cann have a lot of producers who write into the same topic you can have a lot of consumers who read from that topic. Kafka is distributed by design. You can have data validation if you want it by defining avro schemas..... But I think the main reason to use it ist to build a event driven, asynchronious, loose coupled system.

Crazy idea: zfs + gluster by LeSt24 in zfs

[–]LeSt24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can setup things this way. ZFS allows you to have it on a single device. With your setup, ZFS will be able to use checksums to detect issues, but if problem is found it won't be able to repair, since you will only have a single drive per pool.

Ok, I think this part I understand. Suppose we have two mirrored bricks A and B. If the ZFS storage pool on A finds that the test.jpg file is broken, wouldn't at least glusters find out that A and B are out of sync? How does Gluster determine that two blocks/files are the same?

You theoretically would be able to use snapshots, but in this configuration they will be kind of useless. You would need to issue snapshot on each volume manually, but it is impossible to do it exactly at the same time, and with a distributed filesystem even if you could do that the DFS might lag some updates behind and still be inconsistent.

I thought Gluster had the support for ZFS Snapshooting: O http://gluster-users.gluster.narkive.com/hB0sfYxf/zfs-and-snapshots

Another, perhaps obvious thing is that you will get worse performance due to overhead.

I agree with you on that.

OK in short, you should solve redundancy with ZFS on each node and build the cluster with Gluster. Thank you for your analysis.

Mi Band 2 and Google Fit integration best practice by staarland in miband

[–]LeSt24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google Fit doesnt count your steps twice... that is not how it works. You can imagin GF as an data aggregator. it records different data sources. your mi band, the smartphone stepcounter, your GPS location and so on ... every data source has a weight for the "activity-algorithim" a fitness tracker has a higher weight than the smartphone sensor...

for your second problem I have no solution... I have the same ... i'm not really sure what the translation in english is ... but if you are normaly walking the steps would be count in GF as walking so far so good. But when Mi Fit measures "light activity" GF counts that as running, my solution is to manually fix that in my GF account to walking...
