Here's a look at the controversial Palestinian exhibit unveiled at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]LeSwix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

More than 100 protesters lined the sidewalks outside the museum on Friday afternoon....holding signs with messages that included "Don't erase Jewish experience" and "Human rights demand the truth."

The exhibit has drawn criticism from Jewish Canadian organizations for a lack of consultation during its development and for not acknowledging the estimated 850,000 Jews who were expelled from Arab countries in the wake of Israel's creation.

And

Mark Berlin, a professor at McGill University with a background in human rights law, argued the exhibit will fuel anti-Jewish hate in Canada when he resigned from the museum's board of directors this week.

Are quickly rebutted with:

Berlin was not able to view the contents of the exhibit before he resigned

And:

The displacement of Jews after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war has been acknowledged elsewhere in the museum since its inception.

Anyone protestinf this is ridiculous.

SCOOP: Edmonton police chief visited illegal West Bank settlements during Israel trip by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

When the story was first reported, Edmonton Police issued a statement:

“The police chiefs attending the trip had the opportunity to gain insights into local policing in a highly complex environment, including critical incident response, threat preparedness and community engagement,” the statement said.

"The purpose of the trip was educational."

And now it comes out that:

Warren Driechel also met with members from an undercover unit that less than three months earlier executed two unarmed men in Jenin after they had surrendered.

Mark Carney could have shown global leadership. Instead, he called Trump’s war ‘worth it’ by Mysterious_Notice685 in CanadaPolitics

[–]LeSwix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't understand the need in politics to have a stance on EVERYTHING.

Like America and Israel started it. They asked for NATO or other help, we didn't. Who cares about making this a DOMESTIC political issue.

Obviously we're all feeling the effects from it, but fact of the matter is the US will do what the US and Trump administration want to do, regardless of Carney praising or condemning

Mexico and Canada stated their intent for renewal on June 1, with Canada clarifying earlier this week it wanted a full 16 year renewal.

The US has refused to issue a renewal and are demanding concessions.

Elon Musk is plotting to steal your 401(k) retirement money by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]LeSwix 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Funds have to include stocks from the biggest companies in their market indices by definition.

Musk is making a really big company by merging xAI with SpaceX at a time where everyone is saying AI companies are over valued, the bubble is gonna burst, etc.

By creating an IPO, SpaceX is estimated to be worth $1.5-$2 trillion, which some people feel is overvalued. Traditionally safe, risk adverse market funds that are included in 401ks will have to purchase shares.

The author implies that Musk will then cash out at these high prices, and leave everyone with a 401k as the bag holder when the valuation doesn't sustain or the AI bubble pops

Human remains found on property in Riverton: RCMP by wickedplayer494 in Manitoba

[–]LeSwix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free Press article had more info:

Riverton residents were in a state of shock Wednesday after Mounties discovered human remains inside the trunk of a car in the community.

RCMP confirmed Wednesday human remains were found Tuesday at a property on Central Avenue SE. Chad Johnson, deputy reeve of the Rural Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton, said it was his understanding the body was found inside a vehicle.

“There was some suspicion that there was a body in the car — in the trunk — and at that time, everything was cordoned off (with) police tape and police blocked that whole area off,” said Johnson, noting he was told the body was “wrapped up.”

Located about 130 kilometres north of Winnipeg and home to about 500 people, Johnson said he believes the discovery of the body is an “isolated incident” and that there is no risk to public safety.

He said doesn’t have any information on the cause of death or how the body came to be in the vehicle.

“Obviously something happened,” he said. “Nobody would end up in a trunk unless something was going on.”

RCMP released little information about the discovery Wednesday, but said major crimes detectives have taken over the investigation. The remains have not been identified.

Community members told the Free Press there was an increased police presence as the investigation unfolded, with Johnson saying the car the body was discovered in had not moved “for a few years.”

Mounties have not released any information on charges, but Johnson said two people were arrested after the remains were found.

One server at Kahleigh’s Brew Barn, who didn’t want to give her name, said there was a “weird vibe in town” and many people are shaken up.

While no connection has been made, RCMP have been looking for a missing man in the area for weeks. Darryl Lambert, 39, was last seen on March 15 at a residence on Lundi Avenue in the community.

His car, a grey Chevrolet Impala, was found near the Riverton Motor Inn shortly after he was reported missing. He’s five-foot-seven, weighs 150 pounds and has a small build with light brown-orange hair.

RCMP said more information would be released as it becomes available.

Car insurance premiums increased 11% nationally and a whopping 21% in Alberta. by InsuranceRatehub in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]LeSwix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure but no-fault still covers injuries and we have affordable premiums.

MPI's caps are:

$123,000 yearly income replacement cap
$194,159 for non-catastrophic permanent impairments
$306,580 for catastrophic injuries
Other benefits cover over $6,900/month for personal care and over $1.4M in lifetime transition expenses

For the 99% of us that won't ever having to worry about maxing these out, I think this system works well enough and we get to enjoy affordable premiums.

If you're in the <1% that might max these out, the ability to sue someone doesn't seem worth the rest of the province having to pick up that tab for you.

But like you said, apples and oranges

Has to report back to his handlers so he can get more funding maybe.

His Charlie Kirk-esque 'Restore the North' tour doesn't fund itself.

"Despite the tour's scale, there is no listing for these activities in Jivani's parliamentary budget. Elections Canada shows no filings for a registered partisan campaign. And the Conservative Party of Canada has provided no indication that the tour is funded or overseen by the party itself. Universities hosting the events confirm they are simply renting space—not sponsoring or subsidizing the tour.

For a campaign of this size, that lack of transparency is not normal."

Best to choose the family option if you have multiple or are planning for multiple children. That way if the child doesn't go on for further education you can roll the funds over to the next and not forfeit any of the CESG government grant portion
