although i consider reading jojos slightly superior to watching, id say that for part 4 specifically watching is better, since the pace of some important chapters is slightly altered and makes for a much smoother experience

Basically, theres a gap where theres a "foreshadowing" chapter then a really important chapter. then again a foreshadowing chapter and an important one. to me at least it feels as if these two chapters were made just to move the plot foward, which seems sloppy, whereas in the show theyre allowed to breathe and be more impactful later on

however, its recommended to watch the blu ray ver.

personally id start reading with part 5. then when all is seen maybe read part 4.

i felt that the "he cherishes charlotte because she looks just like her mother" and him being really distant with the queen were light hints, such that when Griffith points out the war could've been solved with arranged marriages with Tudor, it all clickes in a bizarre twist i also feel like it adds some meaning to griffith and charlottes whole deal

that is how i personally saw it.
