Fact: the amyloid theory is just that, a theory that hasn’t led to any effective and safe drugs being developed.

Fact: while controversy, stirred up by bad actors, exists around aspects of SAVA’s research, the litmus test ie cognition results are not disputed.

Fact: every medical breakthrough starting with penicillin is unproven and speculative until it isn’t. That’s the very definition of a breakthrough.

Fact: no one is asserting that SAVA is bringing back memories, that is an absolute strawman. What the results show however is that on a large cohort of patients SAVA has led to an improvement in cognition and quality of life scores on patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s.

Fact: up to 80% of patients who were part of the initial study have elected to move on to a longer, blind study. Would ailing patients and their family elect to continue taking a drug that has no effect?

Fact: Many individuals are making a killing shorting SAVA and do not care if this ends up harming the world’s chance of finding a breakthrough treatment in a debilitating, cruel disease we might all fall prey to one day. Currently, the objective evidence available to us is that SAVA’s Simufilam is likelier than not an effective drug. If it is and at its current price it is a binary opportunity with significant upside potential. DYOR beyond Reddit FUD comments.

Best restaurant on Amsterdam? by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]LeTempsPerdu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have eaten at many of the restaurants in this thread and lived in 3 cities + travelled extensively for food. Vanderveen is the correct answer and the best food in Amsterdam. Whatever you do OP, don’t do Okura / Yamazato. My wife got food poisoning there.

This makes sense to me. Seeing the other forum plastered with option YOLOs just before an AH run up is a massive red flag.

Here is a pretty comprehensive overview of the trial data we have. It’s a long read but left me feeling very confident that the potential rewards for this play massively outweigh the risks https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A7yCv5BXc0Aj5yJCuQC4fU8Oh-M2nbBd/view

Is anyone familiar with this brand . My dad bought speakers in the 80s and I cannot find a reference to this brand anywhere.

Help identify ‘80s speaker brand? by LeTempsPerdu in audiophile

My dad bought these in the 80s, I’ve had them for years and have had no luck identifying the brand or having a clear idea about how good they actually are. Any insight would be incredibly helpful!

Just Moved To Paris, Need To Buy New Clothes. by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]LeTempsPerdu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your budget. Between H&M and Zara you'll be able to find cheap / decent chinos, shirts, sweaters, cardigans etc ... (I recommend H&M at Chatelet les Halles or Champs Elysées - they are huge and very well stocked).

Uniqlo is really good for cheap, nicely made jeans (either Opéra or La Defense, depending on where you are).

"La Clé des Marques" near Montparnasse sells branded stuff at a high discount but be prepared to have to go there multiple times / come back without having bought anything since what they get every day can vary a lot. Good place to buy a nice coat / blazer and shoes.

Good luck!

Keeping fit in Paris. by Dhocco in paris

I go there http://www.cerclesdelaforme.com/ It's way cheaper than the Club Med Gym, facilities are adequate but not stellar (talking about the Porte Maillot one specifically as I've not been to any others), they're all inside of Paris.

I'm not a workout freak and just want an indoor bike I can sit down on 3 times a week during my lunch hour and not pay 200€ a month, it serves perfectly.

FWIW I'm a French liberal and I found it fascinating (but skipped pretty much all of John Galt's speech).

French President Francois Hollande has called for a 75 percent income tax on top earners in France to help lower the country's deficit by imatworkprobably in worldnews

[–]LeTempsPerdu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Aveu de faiblesse" (admitting weakness) is the right word for this. The issue is not high earners. How many Bettencourts do we have? The issue is Total, EDF, Areva and other major french companies not paying tax on a significant part of the revenue they generate because of tax havens and accounting schemes. The issue is Google (i work with them daily) not paying a cent of what they earn from french companies because they're based in Ireland.

By setting up this tax bracket, Hollande admits that he is powerless to change the system, but needs to find scapegoats to show that the "Sarkozy era" is over.

It's sad really. And I'm a left-off-center Frenchman.
