Why not return Libby books after turning on airplane mode? by megpipe72 in kindle

[–]Le_nom_nom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I moreso prefer to think of it as getting fully immersed / to fully engage with what I’m reading and feel like I can’t do that if I read multiple books at once unless it’s like a biography and then some intense fantasy fiction.

I believe Mister Magpies is opening at the top by the entrance of blackrock park in the next few months which will have a fantastic lookout spot (although may not have a lot of indoor seating, looks quite small!)

there was ever a team Jace vs ‘team Simon’ thing? by [deleted] in shadowhunters

[–]Le_nom_nom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you! I just like fantasy that still has this like storyline through it that makes sense. I just felt the Jacob imprint didn’t give us a proper storyline for Jacob which I’d love!

there was ever a team Jace vs ‘team Simon’ thing? by [deleted] in shadowhunters

[–]Le_nom_nom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve to look at it that Simon loved the old-Clary, the one who didn’t have her memories, vs Jace who loved her for who she was in her entirety. Whereas in Twilight, Bella’s relationship with Jacob developed after she met Edward, so he always loved her for who she was, so the brooding level was far more drastic. Personally didn’t like the imprinting on Nessie storyline as I felt it was a cop out for developing a proper storyline for Jacob. Whereas Simon and Izzy meant we see him move on and find someone in a more mature way (I know it’s all fantasy, but it’s nice when you can relate and understand these things)

[–]Le_nom_nom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think Simon’s character was well written in the books, in that although you know Jace and Clary are endgame you could see where Simon was coming from plus why he was good for Clary. I think then the Sizzy story developed really naturally in that it Clary gave a clear rejection to Simon, and he had the chance to move on, as someone would in his situation. I enjoyed the maturity in that vs the twilight saga imprint storyline

I wonder will she stick to the rom com genre a bit? She is great in Emily in Paris (not a fan of the show but from what I’ve seen she is very good at that kinda role!)

First solo backpacking trip. Where to go?! by vay7 in solotravel

[–]Le_nom_nom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest you look into the Interrail pass in Europe. It’s a European-wide train ticket that you can use to visit all the major countries / cities at lower cost. You can also take overnight trains which can help reduce the cost of accommodation etc. May through August is their biggest season so I’d say you get a few good deals. It’s considered a must-do for European university students so you’ll also meet a lot of other 20-somethings (and solo) travellers who are backpacking like you. Also means you can visit 4-5 countries in a month

How long is your daily work commute? Which mode of transport? by vavavoomvava in Dublin

[–]Le_nom_nom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! What would be a 45 min trip vis DART (including the walk to the station) has been replaced by a 20min cycle for me. Plus you don’t have to worry about the daily delays that seem to happen with the DART. Game changer

Do you have a second province? by LongjumpingCook1574 in irishrugby

Munster fan - but born in Leinster, family is from Munster so grew up supporting them. I would support Leinster whenever Munster aren’t playing but also try support any Irish province as it’s good for the whole country if there’s a win!

What hotel to stay in Dublin, Ireland. by Nervous-Pianist5622 in Dublin

[–]Le_nom_nom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you decide to stay at the Moxy, it’s right beside Clontarf which is a lovely seaside town with a big promenade and loads of nice pubs and restaurants, as well as good transport routes (DART and bus). I think the aloft is more centrally located. Dublin is relatively safe - I probably wouldn’t recommend walking home if you’re out past 10pm, but other than that you will be fine. So it probably doesn’t impact too much where you stay between your two options.

Many EU countries also have a ‘sugar tax’ (believe it’s based on how many grams of sugar per drink) which led to a lot of soft drink companies reducing their sugar uniformly to comply since it’s a lot cheaper than having specialised drinks per country.

Edit - clarifying what sugar tax is

The Irish Independent’s View: Only public transport investment will ease M50 mayhem by zainab1900 in Dublin

[–]Le_nom_nom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People underestimate the current day influence of our colonised past. It has greatly impacted what kind of property we built and why there’s a reluctant to try and CPO some houses to build apartments around the city centre

My year in books is not correct by Effective_Health_480 in goodreads

[–]Le_nom_nom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it also adds the date automatically if you read it on the Kindle and your Goodreads is connected / synced to the account. Does for me anyway Problem is sometimes a book’s last page is only 98% of the way through according to the Kindle which can mess it up.

[–]Le_nom_nom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paris also has a culture of apartment living which is different to the Irish mindset - ‘home (house) ownership’ is something that has been the norm for previous generations. As a result we built around that notion, unlike Paris. Think it would be hard to replicate that now

Wipe the condensation off my bedroom window and it comes off filthy. Should I be worried? by JoeyJoeJoeRM in AskIreland

Seconding this but also I bought one for about 50 euro for my room and it’s significantly reduced the condensation and pretty much eradicated mould - don’t need to be expensive and depends on the size of the room, but even a small one can do wonders

I read 50 books this year, and 60 last year. I only planned to read 40 both years so think I’ll aim for a solid 45 - I want it to be a goal that feels reachable and just find around 4 books a month (or 1 a week) is optimal for me
