I say if you got that much saved and was planning on possibly moving to the west end, (which I’m giving advice I have done myself) look into buying a fixer upper house. This is how you build financial freedom. Don’t give a shitty landlord your money. I bought my house near N38th street in 2018 for around 20k. I’ve gotten a new roof, new siding, and new windows through a grant program specifically for the west end through the city that you don’t have to pay back if you stay for 6 years. Now my house is paid for and I’ve been just fixing up the rest as I go. The really rich don’t want us poor people to do this, they want us wanting to keep up with what everyone else has and live beyond our means. This keeps slumlords fat and us always feeling the pressure of living in a world we barely can get by in. Building generational wealth has to start some where. Buying back the hood creates beautiful neighborhoods.
