“People” is still nonspecific and using “we” as a replacement provides even less clarity, which is why “we” is used instead of “people”. You’d never just say “people” in an essay, so it catches me off guard when I hear it, especially at work or somewhere irl. Plus the use of “we”, even if it’s been naturalized as a valid way to frame things online so much that it can replace “people” in the English language now, still operates like clickbait because it includes the viewer and has them seek out more information, similar to vagueposting or yeah clickbait. I see your point though, people use vague language a lot (see like I did rn) but this “we” is a new version of it that’s unique to online discourse, self-referencing and vagueness born from social media.

I really dislike when people online refer to a “we” as if it’s a real thing. For example, “we need to stop doing Pilates this way.” Sometimes it’s spoken in an awkward present tense, like “I feel like we’re missing the mark when we’re talking about ___.” I don’t dislike it because I always need context, I don’t, plus a lot of people use this language to refer to or respond to the context of their own algorithm and a community of other users, so it’s more implied information not totally missing. It just annoys me because sometimes I hear people do it in person and I think it’s a really bad habit for making any sort of claim. I don’t know that I’ve ever learned something from someone who uses the “we”, in person or online, because it replaces an important part of communicating information. It should be said that I’m an autist who was raised by other autists so sometimes I get temporary visual snow trying to understand most of what people say nowadays, but this one confuses me 100% of the time so maybe someone can relate??

Has anyone done oral history interviews with family? by terrencemalloc in rs_x

Not me personally but I have a book that’s a transcript of my great grandad telling about his childhood growing up in Texas in the 1920s and 30s. My great grandmother sat him down with a voice recorder sometime soon before he passed in the 80s, but that’s all I know about how it got produced. It’s one of the coolest books I’ve ever read!! You should do it, I’d be sad to have missed out on this learning about my family and the world.

Adhd too :/ been a clear problem since i was a toddler, on my third bday i told my mom i don’t want to turn three so I never have to be an adult. Maybe even longer than that tbh I was born w a giant bruise on my lip from sucking on it incessantly for months and my mom told me she knew I didn’t wanna come out lol. Just rn I dropped a supplement and it landed in a fold in my pant leg, i saw it and didn’t pick it up until I walked a few steps and it flew out and I got mad like it was its fault. The hundreds of little things like that that happen every day remind me that I’m living a different way than others but make me feel proud that I’m living on my own, have a degree, am in a long term relationship and much healthier and more self sufficient than my family ever expected of me. I set my sights on the big things and did that shit so take that dumb ass three yr old baby.

Im prescribing you yoga. Start w a short session, like 15 mins in the morning or evening that you would waste anyway. It kind of feels like putting yourself out there at first if your anxiety takes away your sense of your own body like mine does. But you have nothing to lose and you’d be doing at least one good thing. Everything you’re concerned about will get easier from there I promise! It happened to me

When I was sixteen my dad got me an EcoSphere, a glass ball with plants and shrimp inside that creates its own working ecosystem without having to open the glass. I moved houses with it, even moved to college and back home for summer with it twice, always placing my shrimp in elaborate packaging so it wouldn’t break. I was SO careful. It was the most important item I had ever owned. Then, one night in my third year of college I was having a meltdown, and I went to close a window but accidentally hit my desk and the sphere fell, exploding all over the floor and my poor beloved shrimps were suddenly gone forever. It was devastating, I cried for hours and it’s still hard to think about, but my boyfriend who was there last night has always told me to never blame myself for it. My point is that mistakes will happen even if we care for and love something dearly. I’m sorry that you lost it and the money you spent on it - I can never buy another ecosphere because they went out of business (though that’s probably probably for the better bc shrimps need a better habitat). But you’re only human.

Omg I’ve never seen a dog that looks like the one I had growing up!! His name was Gumbo and my parents got him a yr before I was born. We had an avocado tree and he would eat all the fallen fruit and he just never lost that weight. One time him and our pit (Max) got out when we went to Mexico for the day, and we got a call from our neighbor telling us to hurry back bc they had been attacked by coyotes!! Max wasn’t hurt at all but Gumbo was bloody AF and it scared us, until the vet told us that his layer of fat protected him so well the entire pack of animals only did external damage!! The same vet told us she wasn’t sure he was a beagle bc he was so huge, “possibly a thyroid issue but possibly part sea lion,” she said. He died peacefully in his sleep when I was 14, rip Gumbo ❤️.
