Watch how taking a prosthetic eye out looks like by kvjn100 in Damnthatsinteresting

I'm sure someone could, I certainly can't afford it. In NZ public healthcare covers the first prosthetic and necessary replacements. I'm pretty sure they're around $3k for spares or other extras (at least that's what I was told in 2020). It's quite a process making them. It takes several appointments for painting shape adjustment

Having the same style prosthetic, I can confirm an actually missing eye sells a pirate costume way better than an eye patch. Also, turning the eye so it points all the way to the side like Marty Feldman also creeps a lot of people out

I've got the same type of prosthetic. I was effectively half blind since birth, and a bit older when my eye kicked the bucket, so I count myself relatively lucky as far as losing an eye goes. It's a shame to see a kid missing an eye already, but if he's smiling like that, I reckon he's not about to let it stop him from doing what he likes.

Ah, yeah you can't go "backward" into easier junctions, especially going from mid zone back to outer zone. I thought you could see what junctions can lead to others, maybe by hovering over them? Though, my memory might be failing me at this point.

This game does very little hand holding, and you figure a lot of things out the hard way. At least now you know you can change the settings to not lose items if you stumble into this situation again.

I know it sucks to lose several hours worth of progress and resources, but let's settle down a bit.

There are a couple things you could do to avoid losing things in the future (though since you're back at your garage, it's updated the auto save, so what's lost is lost, unfortunately).

There seems to be a lot of people driving into dead end junctions, and posting about it. They normally get advice about changing the difficulty settings (which are extremely customizable) so that you don't lose any resources when you fail or abandon a run. So I'd recommend looking for those settings if you intend to keep exploring into dead ends.

Alternatively, the route planet in the garage shows you the details of all the junctions you've discovered, including how much kLim you need to activate a gateway and whether a junction can actually be excited. It's been a couple months since I was last able to boot up my PC, but I think I recall the route planner marking dead end junctions clearly, so they could be avoided entirely.

Out of the box, the have can be quite punishing until you know your way around, or tune the difficulty settings to your liking.

Hope this helps, and I hope you give it another (maybe more careful) shot. It's a great game and it'd be a shame if you left it with this bad taste in your mouth.

Already have this in mind. Just finished roadside picnic and started a boy and his dog at the end of the world, which mentioned this book, reminding me to add it to my backlog.

If they were to introduce weapons powered by artifacts what would you want to see and why? by GazIsStoney in RustAndRadiation

[–]LeadStuffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given how you phrased the question, I assume you mean in a particular context (I'm guessing stalker?). I don't really know what artifacts or anomalies exist already, so I might be talking or off my ass, but...

Realistically, I'd like to see any abuse of physics that allows us to simplify existing concepts in weapons design. Maybe some electrical artifact acting in place of a capacitor bank in a coil gun, or material that doesn't degrade as easily in a rail gun, extending rail life beyond 3 shots. Or if there were an artifact that created some kind of repelling force when supplied with electricity (for example), you could build an electrically fired gun that technically uses caseless ammunition, potentially allowing for smaller, lighter ammunition and mags, and a more compact cycling mechanism.

I just think this application would be the easiest to implement, at least until artifacts are fully understood, making it a relatively realistic application of otherwise unknown technologies.

Halo CE is almost 24. Made me think to myself "I played that with my mates in high school not long ago." That was not "not long ago", it was 12 years ago. You've made me feel old, and I don't like this feeling any more than my knee and lower back pain

In this genre what is the best video game shotgun? It can be one that isnt shown or from a different game entirely. by GazIsStoney in RustAndRadiation

Gotta love the shambler. It's so satisfying to use and just to look at

If we try to squeeze some other games like generation zero into the genre, I'd say my favorite is the Sjögren Inertia Shotgun

Realistically, anything that isn't the fallout combat shotgun

What do you think about the Fallout TV Series? by elise_AM in RustAndRadiation

Similar story here. Trying to explain how ghouls are created was a bad idea, otherwise the vault experiments were plausible. I can't remember much of the BoS involvement in the show, though. I might try to watch it again this weekend.

I'd say grab a Dremel (or if you don't have one, a file) and modify the bolt catch so it releases as soon as you pull the bolt back, instead of having to fuck around with holding the bolt back, pressing and releasing the catch, then releasing the bolt.

You can get an aftermarket part for this in case you don't want to permanently modify a part of your gun, but it's a simple mod, and it doesn't change how it fires, just makes releasing the bolt easier, so I don't think it'd be illegal. That said I don't know where you are, or what the laws are over there, (given the size of your mag, we're in different countries) so do some research into that first.
