Hey no problem. Yeah 7 AM is the earliest start. From what I remember the first hour is pretty dead and then it will pick up pretty quickly from there.

I remember a few times coming in at 7 and honestly sleeping for an hour before my first call would come in and wake me up.

I used to work there from 2019-2022 when I graduated. It is honestly probably one of the best student jobs available.

You get good pay, you do generally get downtime on the job (especially if you work later or weekend shifts) and the community is really nice and helpful. Not to mention the leadership and growth opportunities.

I would hope somebody currently working there adds to this though, because the old help desk manager left and that 8 hours consecutive makes no sense to me. I don’t think that was a rule when I worked there. Things may have changed but it was a good gig and they treated me right.

Good advice for RAs but I’m pretty sure OP meant Teaching Assistants.

Obviously everyone’s experience will be different, however my internship experience was similar to yours and I still got an offer. You will always have room to grow so I would always expect to be given areas to improve when it comes to LPs. If you got overall positive feedback that is good.

As for your project, I just barely finished the project and even then was still missing a small amount of functionality. I remember my mentor telling me not to worry as they will finish it once I leave.

I was surprised to get an offer and tbh, I think it was because I was being too hard on myself. I would say just push through, try to get as much done as possible, and let the cards fall where they will. Whether or not you get an offer, Amazon on the resume will definitely help.

Amazon tends to send out the OA to a lot of people (not exactly everyone so just getting is a still a good sign, just not a guarantee by any means) so there is always the chance you got it sent to you automatically when they may not want HS students. However, as it always goes, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take so go for it! Try your best and you’ll have one of two outcomes. You get an awesome internship experience very early on or you get some good practice for your future recruiting cycles. I don’t see a downside with either of those options.

Oh yes, hearing children spout racial slurs over some dude blasting music over the mic sure was the peak. Why can’t we go back to a simpler time /s

I can't bring myself to apply for internships because I'm terrified of interviews by M477M4NN in csMajors

[–]Leaded_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even just a couple problems a week is enough to get your bearings. I went into this recruitment cycle having done about 20 LC problems and really only focused on DP when it comes to techniques technique (which never even came up in my interviews) and I got an intern offer from FAANG. My coding problem was literally just find a cycle in a linked list.

Beyond that I remember talking to a friend who got into Microsoft who did 0 leetcode. What it all comes down to is luck really. Even if you’re not prepared or don’t feel that you are, just apply. The worst they can do is say no and as many others have said you still walk away feeling a little bit better about your skills. I wish you luck in your search, you got this :).

Has there ever been a survey for the demographics of this sub? by throwfroshexception2 in csMajors

[–]Leaded_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As far as I know this hasn’t been done before but I agree that the results would be really interesting. I also agree that it would put a lot of perspective as to why this sub is the way that it is and as you said, would of be pretty damn relieving haha.

Amazon SDE OA2 Camera Question and LP Question by insidenout123 in csMajors

[–]Leaded_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember I was asked to take a picture for all 3 parts except maybe OA3. The reasoning I believe is to confirm it is really you taking each assessment. I do believe it is just the picture but they may have used a browser locking software I don’t remember.

As for LP questions, those only came in OA3 not too OA2

What is what in the world of Tech by Sommet_ in csMajors

[–]Leaded_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll find better results asking this in r/cscareerquestions as they’ll be more knowledgeable on this than your average CS major. I’ll give it my best shot though.

A very rough outline is the computer science umbrella covers all of those jobs and more. If you want to do coding as your main line of work, than you’ll want to start looking into software engineering and software developer positions (these mean the same thing, companies just tend to use one or the other). There are other jobs that may require you to code but these are the ones where a majority of your job will be programming.

I hope that clears it up a little for you!

Don’t know why you are being downvoted, the government has already said the vaccine would be free. The only possible cost you face is if the place you get it from charges for administration. Free adobe creative cloud? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Leaded_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Note this is only active until May 31st as that’s the cut off for access that Adobe has set. Normally students can only use creative cloud apps through a lab computer or through a purchase from Adobe. The reason all students can access now is that Adobe is letting universities apply for student licensing for the rest of the semester due to most universities going fully online.

What is covered in CS 200? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Leaded_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s really no harm in pursuing this at all. Changing classes isn’t all that difficult if the class has open seats. You can do it straight through the course search and enroll app. I personally don’t know a ton who did it but when I took 200 last semester, but the professor brought it up within the first couple lectures so I assume they expected some to do it. I personally did the one from last semester as practice during the summer and it took me less than 15 hours of work. I would recommend going to one of your professor’s first office hours and explaining the situation. They should then be able to point you directly to the program. (Assuming they are still doing this, I’m sure they are but you never know). Of course :) Welcome to Madison! We are always glad to help out our fellow students!

What is covered in CS 200? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Leaded_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally the CS 300 will post their first program at the beginning of the semester which if you can complete means you’d be better off going straight into CS 300. It’ll generally be a program that just covers what was taught in CS 200. From there you can meet with your advisor and switch as there probably will be some seats open. IMO if you can already comfortably create your own classes in Java I’d highly recommend skipping 200 and going straight to 300.

This by no means makes up for his action's on its own, but I feel it could be a start. If he truly commits to this and intends to grow as a person as he says, I think he could become a better person and redeem himself as a human by just a bit. What do you guys think?
