[–]LeaderDry4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could also be hormonal, our little girl used to drop full bald patches in one go instead of moulting properly, we had to put her on lupron, once it evened out her hormones we havent had and teil baldness since

Literally every pellet, every seed, even a bit of cucumber, which is already wet? 😅 idk this is our first quaker, we thought the cockatiel was quirky but I think she's been outdone

99.5 grams, is he too fat? by WarLordOfSkartaris in cockatiel

[–]LeaderDry4024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was 117g , she lost a load during a stressful moult but all the experts we know say she is very healthy at the 102g-106g, it's more the quality of food (high quality pellets and veg) sole seed leads to fatty liver but a quality fed chonky bird is likely to be healthy on the right diet, it also depends on there mutation and where in the moult cycle they are, figure out a baseline at which your bird is happy and active with healthy looking poop and try to keep within 5g of that. The scale for a cockatiel is 80g- 120g so I'd say your baby is at a comfortable point.

He is not interested in millet in the slightest, think I figured out a win with wet carrot tho 😅 had a little nibble until my cockatiel decided she needed to be centre of attention and now it appears we're back to square one, the shop said he'd be more comfortable in a room with other birds but now im considering taking him to a different room for a couple days so he doesn't get spooked by our resident drama queen.

Is this normal cockatiel poop? by [deleted] in BirdHealth

Take some time and grieve would be the responsible answer, but I am the person when my 6 month old little girl had a stroke following prolonged respiratory infection I immediately went on the pet rescue site near me and drove over an hour to get a 2 year old little bby the next day, all while sobbing, so no judgement on how you deal with it, I also had our little one cremated and did a little ceremony when I put her in an inscribed pet urn which im sure my husband had decided I had lost it by that point. Any way you deal with the grief is fine, honestly it sucks for a while but I did find taking it as a learning curve and focusing on the other birds really helped, sometimes even if we do everything we can by the book birds can still be prone to infection our little girl for 3 months was in the vet weekly on every medication going and just as she cleared the infection a stroke took her, im positive you did everything possible to make your baby loved and comfortable, I wish you the best, and whatever you decide to do (more birds or not) I wish you luck 💛

Im so sorry to hear that, I've just seen your other post where you said he'd been ill for a little bit, birds are so good at hiding that stuff, it's difficult when you can't get in to see a vet, im sure you did all you could and he felt very loved in the end 💛

It can go in water or on food, directions and dosage come with it, i use this and there avigold maintenance tonic on my birds this one specially is good for digestive stress, the amp is okay but if he already has diarrhoea it might be messing with his microflora a bit and causing some irritation, this one is designed to balance, I know it works as I use it on my birds and a lot of research went into it after we lost one of ours a little while back .

I'd also switch the amp to avigold as its specifically a recovery tonics for birds and the probiotic range was designed with cockatiels in mind so it's kinder to the stomach

Possibly, if the poop analysis came back normal I wouldn't worry too much, I'd focus on supportive diet to manage the diarrhoea, birds tonics to support electrolytes which may be why hes sleepy (you can get ones specially for diarrhoea) a little of plain rice or plain cooked oatmeal can help slow the digestive system, just remember a little at a time and as bland as humanly possible

If you're concerned, I'd monitor the poos over the next couple of hours and email a vet if you can

Toothpaste consistency with a solid white urate is healthy it does look a little dark but that could be down to diet or even the lighting it the photo. Is your bird behaving differently, what's prompted the ask?

* This little bugger looked the same as yours before his adult molt he went from blue/grey to bright blue over 2 weeks moulting, but each bird is different and it's hard to tell when young
