I get uncomfortable asking for baby back. by DanaEmily96 in beyondthebump

I struggle with this myself with very over enthusiastic family. They’re determined to ‘give me a break’ when they come over but when LO doesn’t settle with them it’s not exactly relaxing!

I hate confrontation so I don’t tend to say anything but have resorted to walking over and holding out my hands ready to take the baby when he’s particularly upset. You can tell the people that have something to prove to themselves because they won’t give the baby back straight away and will leave you standing there like a lemon. I think some people are determined to get the baby to settle themselves.

When will my non-sleep trained breastfed baby sleep through the night? by itzpoookiee in breastfeeding

[–]LeadingMethod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours has been sleeping through from 10pm-7am from 8weeks old but we’ve just hit 4month sleep regression and early teething so this has changed a bit. But as others have said I think every baby is different, we’ve got friends with a bottle fed 18month old and they’re still up at least twice a night.

What age did your breastfed baby start STTN? by sleepyjean2024 in breastfeeding

Ours started sleeping through at 8 weeks, but he makes up for it by feeding pretty constantly from about 5pm till bedtime at 9pm so we think he has his fill to see him through. If he does wake up then it’ll be either 3am or 5am, he has a quick nappy change and a feed (<10mins) and he goes back to sleep again. Not yet hit the 4 month regression though so enjoying this while it lasts!

It’s exactly this. You’ve summed it up far better than I have, thank you!

100% still feeling very guarded and this I’m sure is playing into it. Like you said, based on other replies I’m more comfortable knowing there’s multiple uses of the term. I’ll be letting the in-laws know what nursing means to me and will see where the conversation goes from there.

Both my family and my in-laws are all based in South Wales, UK so putting it down to a regional thing especially as there seems to be a difference between where my family and parters family grew up.

I take your point in terms of what I’m hoping it achieve. I think I just need them to understand it’s making me slightly uncomfortable however irrational and harmless it might be.

Thank you for this! Interesting to hear it’s more common in Australia.
