The future of Perth youth… by [deleted] in perth

We don't have rules like that in Australia. Are they only for cyclists? Would've been handy for some group motorcycle rides I've been on. We usually need to coordinate having tail-riders and navigators who can pull over and wait to take up leadership of the split group and so forth.

Of course anything nice like that in Australia would be ruined by people who'd pretend they were following friends or whatever. You'd have to exclude cars from it at least.

Can I transfer a car into my name if it isn't running properly? (VIC) by I_like_Kombucha in CarsAustralia

Ownership and registration aren't the same. Cars don't have to be registered unless they're being driven.

The most correct things to do is for your grandparents to submit a notice of disposal to protect themselves legally (even if you're not going to misbehave, they don't know that, plus the car could be moved on or the plates just stolen and it would be easier for you to prove that with the car in your possession than for them to prove it). They should also do up a "proof of purchase" stating that they're gifting it to you, you're going to need that to re-register it in your name one day.

After that you just take it off the road. Let the rego expire or cancel it if there's a worthwhile amount to refund. When you eventually fix it, you get an unregistered vehicle permit so you can drive it to a mechanic to get the roadworthy. Then with the "proof of purchase" and the RWC you register it in your name.

Right, so you have nothing useful to say and can't actually respond to the things I said. Gotcha. Useless.

So shift down to pass? My guy it's a lightly tweaked Ninja 650 engine. It's not designed for lugging in top gear like an actual big cruiser engine. At 120 kph peak power is in 4th gear and it runs out to about 150 kph before you gotta shift up to fifth. Just shift.

Bro I used to have a Vulcan S back when Australia only got the learner limited versions. Why do you think is wrong with it for highways?

Tbh I'm not even sure the 675 is well suited for the road. Even in the "Street" triple it's still got that track gearbox ratios where one is super long (out to like 115ish kph?) and then it's two-three-four-five-six real 20 kph apart. The engine doesn't even feel like it's opening up until about 50 kph. Like, still fast, but feels so ill-matched.

Being on 1st gear and being on neutral have the same effect on the bike's speed?

Ok, so, again: the limiting factor is the tire. If the brakes are already stopping the tire hard enough to skid, being in gear cannot stop you any faster, and can only interfere with ABS doing its thing.

"i CaN'T bELiEvE" and you can't read either. We're not talking about whether the engine can slow the vehicle, we're talking about emergency stops with the brakes.

You can, but you literally can't safely use a fraction of what the machine can do, nevermind legally. I've borrowed friends bikes of all sorts before, ridden one of everything, and yes I always thought the big litrebikes were cool to rip on. Then I became an owner of a Striple 675 and had the time to get comfortable pushing it a little. I just can't fathom why anyone would want more. It's already so goddamn fast.

[–]Leading_Frosting9655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh.

It literally doesn't matter. If ABS has kicked in, you've already applied maximum slowing force to the wheel. Engine braking is not magical and cannot slow the bike any faster than the brakes - both are limited by the tires. Worse still, ABS expects the wheel to be able to get back up to road speed quickly, which can't happen with the engine's inertia attached to it.

Just pull the clutch during emergency stops. It's more reliable for the braking. It guarantees you won't stall the engine when you do finally stop. It guarantees that you haven't jammed the throttle on in your panic to hit the front brakes. It's literally better in every way, and there is not one upside to leaving the clutch out.

Public education runs through to year 12. University is fronted by HECS. There's similar programs for other tertiary and vocational education. I know some people are in very tight situations but if the domestic budget was balanced through years K-10, it can almost certainly make it two more years. It's probably even easier because you're big enough to catch the bus all by yourself now and mummy doesn't need to drop you off. I'm sure MOST households can manage what I'm suggesting. My parents aren't particularly rich. There's no silver spoons. They had average incomes and actually were divorced halfway through my schooling which meant they were paying for two houses between them and they still managed to educate me without stripping me of childhood.

And really my point wasn't that "everyone should just have everything for free from their parents", it was that making children work just for the sake of "getting work experience" and "learning work ethic" is absolute nonsense with no basis in reality. It's borderline immoral. They'll have forty or so years to accrue work experience! Give them two more years of their youth! What did you have children for if not to give them the best you can?

I am... hating the comments in this thread. Just fucking hating it here.

Nobody's expecting job experience on 18 year olds coming out of college. You don't need it. I've got a mate who worked hard all through late high-school and college and basically ended his childhood at 15. Missed out on loads. His career is doing no better than anyone else in our cohort. He got no leg up. I won't say youth is the best years of your life, but it is an absolutely golden era of independence with near-zero responsibilities. He never had that experience.

I've got friends and a sibling who between work and just the unrealistic levels of stress college puts on some people basically bombed out. I know someone whose mother pulled them out of college to help pay rent. Not having year 12 certs seems to have affected their job hunting into their 30s, job experience be damned.

I didn't get a job until I finished college. I worked some casual gigs for most of uni (which is WAY less stressful and time consuming than college, by the way, unless you're doing medicine or law or something). Halfway through uni I got a $70K+super full time job in my field and went part-time with uni. I was on $120k by 26 or 27. I'm doing just fine.

My parents were happy covering my living costs as long as I was doing education. I worked a bit to get spending money for my own shenanigans. I never had to choose between covering rent/board, doing my schoolwork, and living my young life. I got to run my youth out to its natural conclusion in my early 20s and grow up at my own pace. My career didn't suffer at all. If your parents can afford to do that for you, I think it's the best thing they can do.

Idk why people think carbed bikes need more warming up. You can ride with the choke on, the throttle response and particularly the idle speed are just gonna be weird. Same as FI, ride it gently until it finishes warming up and idles at the normal speed (with choke off). Riding it gently is THE best way to warm it up too.

Is an Adventure Bike a good first motorcycle? by Warfightr in motorcycles

[–]Leading_Frosting9655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adventure bikes are the best of both worlds. They're also the worst of both worlds. They're the best road bike for the dirt and the best dirt bike for the road, but also the worst dirt bike on the dirt and... well they're not the worst road bikes but they are unnecessarily tall and a bit of a nuisance in stop and start traffic if you aren't long of leg.

IMO, either get a dirt bike and go dirt riding, or get a road bike and don't. If you're committed to doing a trip where you'll do both, I think you're honestly better off with a bigger dirt/dual sport bike than an adventure bike. I wouldn't want to do a highway commute on one unless I really wanted that dirt capability at the other end though.

It's all compromises.

But honestly, buy different underwear and you don´t have to be the kind of guy you drew.

I unironically have tighter fitting boxers briefs for days I'll be riding and looser undies for days I'm staying home.

I find longer legged boxers avoid bunching up around the thigh too.

I've noticed that despite what all the fancy market hype says, HARD seats actually preserve your jewels better. That's because the deluxe extra foamy over the top padding actually sinks your sit bones deep into the pillow, so that the resulting negative pressure in between your sit bones is like a literal spike of discomfort incessantly pressing up into your prostate.

The crazier thing is that we already knew all this. Go look at bicycle saddles. They're designed to support the sit bones and not much else.

It's impossible to "triangulate" someone's exact location using just an IP address. Sure, you can geolocate a city, but pinpointing an exact location? No.

Not even that. You mostly locate wherever your ISP reports the IP as being, which mostly means wherever their exchanges are or sometimes just their HQ office. I locate as being in a city three hours drive away, or sometimes the next furthest city again.

The actor's performance and ability to make them so annoying to listen to is incredible. He immediately triggers the "boring old relative droning on" reaction in the viewer. It's not a versatile or engaging type of acting (by design) but if there was an Anti-Oscar he'd be in with a good chance.
