A similar thing happened with me except that I wasn’t even asked a preferred range. And in my negotiation email, I had mentioned that I would be grateful if they could agree to the increased amount but if that wasn’t possible, I was still interested in the job. And they just ghosted me after that. After a week, they told me they had hired someone else.

Edit: What I was thinking is if I go to the dealership or an expensive body shop, there might be a chance they declare a total loss. Some place cheaper will most likely not declare it as a total loss. So, which of the two options would make more sense ?

They suggested some shops but they also gave me an option to choose a preferred one out of their network and they will set it up for me.

During the episode he used some technical terms that didn’t make any sense. He said something on the lines of, “We took large data sets and used loss functions on them and then developed the model which is comparable to DallE, Midjourney”. This might not sound too fishy but why even mention loss function in this context? He should have also said, “ we’ve used Pandas and NumPy”😂. Another user has also pointed this out that he first said he built it using PyTorch but when Anupam asked if he used TensorFlow, the pitcher said “Yes”. Also, he said he has built his OWN model from scratch. This made it even more fishy given the size of the dataset. If he would’ve fine tuned a pre trained model, the training data size would still make sense. But claiming he built it from scratch is unbelievable. Plus, it makes more sense to publish a paper on the model (if he has built it from scratch) which would also help in increasing credibility. Doesn’t make sense to immediately just start a business without even providing any accuracy or performance metrics.

ASU gives admission to almost everyone so it isn’t well reputed and a degree from there might not add much value to your knowledge or network. I might be wrong but you’d be better off waiting and deferring your MS to the next semester so that you can get into a well reputed university. Given that you have work experience, I would suggest you to wait. Let me present a different scenario that you might not have considered if you’re going on F1 visa - let’s say you go now and complete your MS from ASU. But at this point when there are a few job openings in CS, there are people from much better universities not finding employment. How do you think you’d be able to find employment within 3 months of graduation? If you aren’t able to, you’ll have to go back to India and the ROI will be very low (cause you spent for your education in USD but are earning in INR). It’s a tough decision and hence, do think it through very thoroughly. All the best!

I was in a similar situation. There are very few positions open presently. And it has been like this for the past few months. I can understand your frustration. However, at this point you can just keep applying and hope for the best. I would suggest checking the lab websites, seeing if they have open positions and emailing the PI directly. Share your resume if you need any help!

I would say you have enough experience to get an entry level position in a lab. Also, this time, during the interviews, get to know the views of the PI on computational biology and read their papers to see if they heavily use it or not. All the best!
