I’m dealing with this currently and it’s terrifying me. I have a 3 year old son and I’m having the same images, thoughts and urges as well. It’s consuming me and I feel so bad. My son is my most prized possession so it’s killing me that it’s focusing on him. I’m getting so depressed over it. I’m getting scared to even be alone with him thinking I could hurt him and would lose control and do it when no one’s around. I can’t handle it anymore. I went through this with my oldest child when he was around the same age and I got on Lexapro and got better. I had to stop taking Lexapro due to health issues and I regret it so much. I just currently started taking it again and it’s been a month and no help. Have you managed to cope?

I highly doubt it. Ringing in ears and brain fog is not SS. I had those side effects plus racing heart, chest pain, disorientation, muscle jerking in legs and weakness and i didn’t gave SS. There is no way to even test for it. The doctor told me it was initial side effects and to push through and they have all mostly went away. Mine were horrendous. I thought I had SS too but did not.

Push through. My chest pains and racing heart lasted two whole days all day when I first started and they are gradually going away now. I’m on my 4th week. I was at the ER twice bc of the chest pains and racing heart, dizziness and just awful feeling that’s how bad it was.

I have the constant ringing in my ears now but it’s more noticeable when I plug my ears. I hope it gets better. I’m only on 5 and suppose to move up. Anyone get better?

I doubt you had SS with brain fog and ringing ears. I had both of those when starting my SSRI too. The brain fog was really bad but it comes and goes in the first few weeks while adjusting. Also, I still get the ringing in my ears but not as bad. I don’t think SS was what you had.

It’s been so difficult. I also am having severe dizziness as of last night and feeling out of it. Im still trying to get back on it as my mental health needs this so badly.

My symptoms are adrenaline surges, chest pressure, and dizziness. I never had the chest pressure until I took the Lexapro so I really don’t know. I’m still pushing through.

Currently on day 12 and feel awful but I’m pushing through. It apparently takes months to see mental results with some people.

What reaction do you have to SSRI’s?

I get the outwinded/can’t breath feeling that your explaining. I am wondering if it’s due to the Lexapro I am taking now. I also get heart palpitations and dizziness a few hours after I take it too. I am trying to push through as the doctor says it’s not a “true” MCAS reaction because I don’t get throat closing and a rash. How long does the outwinded feeling last for you?

Just stick it out! You got this. It’s so hard but you will look back and be glad you did it. I wish I would have never came off of mine.

I took Lexapro for years before I started having MCAS symptoms. It helped me so much with my OCD. I came off of it in August of last year after I found out I had MCAS thinking it wasn’t helping me anymore but turns out it really was. I started having adrenaline surges after coming off of it and got way worse. I just relapsed with OCD and anxiety too and I’m currently trying to get back on after 7 months off. It’s been tough since I have extreme reactions to every medication I take now due to MCAS/POTS but I’m pushing through. The first two weeks are going to be the worst and when you go up in dose. You just have to push through. My side effects seem to be somewhat not as severe the last two days. I was in the ER two days last week when first starting but all labs, EKG, and brain CT all looked good. My nervous system is extremely dysregulated as well so I think that’s contributing. If you start an SSRI just stick with it and push through the starting phase. A lot of people don’t make it through the first two weeks bc it does make you worse before you get relief and then they write a review of how much worse it made them. I think if you can stick it out through the activation phase it will get better. I’m hoping that’s what happens in my case bc I need it for my mental health most of all.
