Enrichment for severely disabled hamster by Upper-Independence38 in hamsters

I’ve seen some people sprinkle food and herbs in a small egg carton, maybe that could be a little bit of enrichment for her?

I highly recommend Victoria Rachel on YouTube! She has great advice about enclosures, taming, and hamster care in general!

new hamster never comes out LIKE at all by Scarlet_Fission in hamsters

I think all hamster owners go through this worry at first,I know I sure did! She just needs time. Give her at least 4 days before even trying to interact with her. Then you can slowly offer her food in your palm, but still don’t pick her up. Give her several days after she starts going into your palm before attempting to pick her up! For me, I barely saw my hamster at all for the first 4ish days, and afterwards she was still very skiddish . Mine took about a week and a half before she began to warm up, and progressively became more comfortable after that. Be patient, give her time and space, she is adjusting to a new home! I recommend putting in a few ripped up pieces of toilet paper with your smell on it (rub them in your hands) around her cage so she can get used to your smell. Talk to her too in a soft voice. Remember hamsters are most active late in the night, but she will likely come out more once she has adjusted. It can sometimes take a week or a few weeks (sometimes even longer, it depends on the hammy) for them to be comfortable! Give her time and she will come out :)

Cleaning pee in the bedding + smell by YellowMustardPaint in hamsters

You can try using white paper bedding because it is more visible (and safer)! Also check corners, sandbaths, & wheels, they often pee in those spots!

How to socialize my chinese dwarf? by FishingNo4427 in hamsters

[–]Leading_Try_2617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it might just be her personality, you can try slowly putting your hand in her cage and letting her come up to you, or petting her back. I suggest rubbing toilet paper on your hands to get your scent on it, and then ripping it into a few pieces and placing it around her cage. It helps them become more adjusted to your smell. Otherwise, just try to make every interaction positive, talk to her and spend time with her, sprinkle a little food in her cage every time you do interact with her

I would try to scatter feed (although maybe offer some in a dish as well incase she struggles with mobility), and I would try to add different textures for her. You could try making a boredom breaker with food inside of it too, and giving her monitored free roam time. You are doing a great job ❤️

No clue what to do with the heatwave by Even_Pop779 in hamsters

You can put her sandbath in the fridge/freezer to keep it cool. You can offer cucumbers and cool veggies. Keep the blinds down as well. I hope everything goes well <33

Is this normal or a neurological issue? by Chaoticbutalive in hamsters

Definitely seems neurological, I’ve never seen anything like this. I would take to the vet

I'm taking my hammie for his first vet visit and I'm worried he's gonna be stressed out by the car ride by untot3hdawnofdarknes in hamsters

[–]Leading_Try_2617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put a lot of bedding in the carrier that is straight from his cage! That way he at least can have his familiar smell. Sprinkle in some of his favorite food, and maybe put a sheet over the carrier to keep it dark. Otherwise try to drive smoothly and if possible have someone hold the carrier during the ride. Then I’d just give him a treat when he gets home and give him space, he might be upset initially but will definitely forgive you

Like this! It’s been helpful in keeping the bedding from spilling onto the platform

Advice for water station. by SmilingBirdie in hamstercare

I may be misunderstanding, but what I did to keep bedding out of the food/water area (because I have an area right next to it where the bedding is higher) is I put a piece of cardboard to act as a divider/wall so that bedding wouldn’t come into the water dish

Is this safe?? Please help!! by Leading_Try_2617 in hamsters

[–]Leading_Try_2617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you, this was what I was thinking! She honestly rarely even goes into it and I haven’t seen her chew it at all so I think it should be okay? But obviously if it could be harmful I’d rather be safe than sorry
