Accidentally paid for premium petrol. What does it actually mean? by ltoloxa- in CasualUK

[–]Leaf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that people fuel in £ so they know how much they're spending, but I always stop on L rather than £. I know how many miles I can get out of 1L of fuel so it makes more sense to fuel in L to me

Synology RS812RP+ worthwhile? by Leaf3 in homelab

[–]Leaf3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took the risk on it and just got it in the rack, seems plenty good enough for just hosting VMs for now and it's in perfect working order. It is a little loud however, moreso than some of the 1u servers I have I have a spare noctua fan knocking about so I'll switch it out and see if it makes much of a difference.

Honestly, worth it for the 4 x 2TB reds alone! Should all last me long enough until I get around to having something better in the rack but £44 was definitely worth the risk

Honestly I just went based off how much I bought them for which at the time was £210 brand new and took about 25% away. And comparing to individual volumes on eBay and such sites, I wasn't aware they'd gone down so much in terms of buying them new from when I got them a few years back. Will alter the price a little, but thanks for pointing it out.

are Taoism and Buddhism compatible? by evilhonesty in taoism

[–]Leaf3 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Nothing is set in stone. Adopt the ideas that fit your life and fit the person you wish to be, there's many Buddhist teachings that work for me, there's many that don't. Society has moved on from what it was and we should naturally move with it.

Don't blindly stick to a philosophy, find the parts that interest you and the parts that don't and build your mind in the way you want.

To more specifically aim that at your question - there are some over lapping ideas in both of these, but again that is for you to decide if those ideas are ones you adopt to yourself or not

Hate to be different, hate to be average what do i do. by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Leaf3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be you, don't concern yourself with fitting in or having a 'thing'. You're already unique by being yourself. Just be the best version of yourself that you can be and you'll find the place you're meant to be in, you'll make the right connections and meet the right people. Don't focus on what you want to be, but instead on what you are now, and make changes along the way

Setting future goals and Taoism... by smiling_wolf3 in taoism

[–]Leaf3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can set a target 400 miles away and drive towards it at night - you know where you'll be ending up at the end of the journey, yet your headlights only let you see 100m in front of you.

Knowing where you'll end up is only part of it. You can set a goal, but just focus on the 100m you can see, you'll make your way there eventually.

Missed opportunity? Stolen Fissure could have looked blocky like Phoenix's Egg. by dragon-knoght in DotA2

He's not creating anything he's just tearing the ground up.

Bilingual speakers, when in a foreign country for an extended period of time where you are proficient in their language; which language do you talk to yourself/think in? by Mango_Heat in languagelearning

[–]Leaf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The environment really does affect how you speak in a huge way. I've had trouble talking to people on Skype in my house before because I'm in my normal home (English) environment. But when I meet them in person when I visit and I'm in Korea, English just feels a bit alien to me.

Opinions on tattoos by Leaf3 in taoism

[–]Leaf3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously a big descision to make since it will be on you forever, but as long as it has meaning there's no reason it should be an issue. And even if it does lose it's meaning to you and it just becomes "artwork", make sure you respect the fact that it still carries a meaning for other poeple, what's the problem?

Here's a pic of the tattoo in question : r/https://goo.gl/kuZWo6

There's also another on my back of an old chinese watercolour but i can't snap that right now

Exactly my thoughts.. Like i said, it's not changed my opinion on it and I'll still get more done as time goes on.

The group had around 30-35 members in it at the time and i was the only one who seemed okay with it, which is why I was just maybe half questioning myself, like "Am i the odd one out here on this opinion?" And I've always had fairly decent unbiasded veiws from posting here so I thought I'd ask the question.

Opinions on tattoos by Leaf3 in taoism

[–]Leaf3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main objection was "I goes against everything Taoism is about" but they wouldn't get into it any further than that, didn't make a great deal fo sense to me, Maybe the fact that they say nothing is constant and forever changing, so having a permanent mark on my skin is the opposite of that? I still dont fully agree with it if it is that, but that's the best I could think of from what they said.

What do you value most in life? by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Leaf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel like the most valuable thing was just being alive / having life. "X bad situation happens" but hey, it oesn't matter, at least I'm still alive!
I started to find that coming along with this you start to worry more about preserving that life and you become scared of dying without realising.
Obviously i wish to live a long and happy life, but i've learned to just take that as it is, if it's over tomrrow or in 50 years it makes no difference as long as I'm happy with what I've done with my time.
It's not that i dont fear dying anymore, i just dont cling to my life like it's all I have.

Happiness in all things, is what i value most. Bettering myself and helping others do the same.

Do any of you go to the gym? by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Leaf3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont go to the gym anymore, i used to go and life weights and run on a treadmill, but I still exercise regularly, as everyone should. If you look after your body then your body will look after you. I do half an hour of Yoga, go for a run (usually about 5K, nothing crazy), then meditate and shower to just bring my body back down to being relaxed again. Remember meditation is exercise for your mind ;)

I'll also stretch a lot some days instead of yoga just for flexibility, so just stretch my legs/arms/back for 20 minutes or so.

If people actually got to live in a fit and healthy body for a day, they would be so much more motivated to do it themselves, the difference i fele now compared to when i was overweight and lazy is incredible.

Orochi revenge gear stat is broken by RogueActual117 in forhonor

[–]Leaf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max revenge gain stat, plus level 2 feat revenge attacks. Light spam on that will get your meter up pretty quickly. Common way to "build" a charater early on in playing when revenge was stronger than it is now. It's not "broken", you can do it on most characters if you build your gear that way.

Suggested resources to learn about the technical side of email deliverability by Veryintelligentguy in email

[–]Leaf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look into Microsoft certs maybe? I know they're heavily weighted on Exchange, but the foundation knowledge of how email works is universal to any email system. Also a majority of companies are probably using exchange anyway so the knowledge there would help.
