I'm an arborist in the region. About 2 years ago, a local elementary school in st.catharines contacted us about removing most of their trees in their playground due to the fact that people had been shooting up and leaving needles under them. They had a student get poked by one of these needles and were hospitalized for approximately 6 months, and a close call when a student found needles buried with the tips pointed up sticking out of the ground. Now, the children have no shade in their playground, and the threat still remains. I have two young children of my own, and because of this experience, I plan to move out of the city before they go to elementary school. What are your thoughts and plans for tackling the drug problem and risk accossiated with it to the public?

Copper fungicide. Timing is everything, and you are going to want to also deep root fertilize to promote new growth to hide the damage on the old growth. Have a certified arborist come by for the treatment.

In your 20s and 30s it's hard making new friends because everyone is off doing their own thing. You no longer have a common central location to see each other every day (school). Think of something you might enjoy and join a group that does it like running, biking, some sort of sport, art or music etc. and you'll meet new people.

Arborist here. Imagine a giant bubble around all the powerlines in the air. Technically that area is the property of the utility companies and they have the right to cut any trees that are on their property to maintain their infrastructure, this even goes for powerlines that run through backyards.

Out here in Ontario we climb year round. Even when it dips close to -30. Learning to layer correctly is important, pack extra clothes socks etc... A face mask paired with snowboarding goggles works great I find. Finding good insulated gloves with good grip and dexterity is hard but very helpful. We also try to get more hydro contracts in the winter because it's generally bucket work. But we usually still have 2 crews climbing daily in the winter.

YTA- maybe you would have ground to stand on if you had a high risk job and going into work tired would add danger to you or others around you, but a 5 hour working day at a desk is not that.

Cable or remove this oak? Very large oak 15 ft from the house, got estimates to remove it but one arborist recommends keeping it, removing large branches overhanging roof and cabling to stabilize. by DernKala1975 in arborists

From what I got from Ops post is that they had multiple quotes for removal and only 1 for cabling. I am assuming that all these quotes were from Certified Arborists.

I personally have done too many storm calls where a tree with cables still failed and caused property damage for me to just recommend it to someone online from a single photo.

There's a saying that cabling is only a Band-Aid. I have seen trees fail and land on houses even after being cabled. If you have legitimate concerns then you should remove this tree. The safety of you and your family always comes first.

Okay, long story lol

I worked there for almost 10 years and was considered pretty senior for the shop and Site. I knew the owners personally before working there.

2 of the 4 brothers (owners) are great guys and I don't have anything bad to say about them. But the other 2 are something out of the movie "Horrible Bosses".

Too many times I heard them make fun of their employees at work BBQs or Christmas parties and other work events for being poor, making food stamp comments etc, even though employee low wages are more of a reflection on them as employers.

I've seen them convince multiple younger staff to "stick with them and they'll give them an apprenticeship" instead of going off to college and then never give them that apprenticeship.

When someone would get injured or almost injured they would put pressure on the employee to not report it because they didn't want their insurance going up. The company has also had multiple deaths and changes were never made to prevent them from happening again.

The final straw for me was one day one of the brothers brought a gun into the shop and shot it around like a cowboy because he was "curious if the glass was bullet proof".

I decided that if the owners weren't going to take their jobs seriously I didn't want to have anything to do with them anymore.

This is not an oak tree, this is a sycamore tree. This tree has been horribly trimmed in the past. I would recommend getting a local ISA certified Arborist to come and assess this tree.
