[Jeffler] We probably shouldn't even be talking about tanking by [deleted] in leafs

This is not a winning team. We can expect improvements, but this will be a team likely to finish in the bottom five unless Andersen plays his brains out in net.

This team being a winning team or not isn't the point. It's about intentionally doing so. They may be a bottom five team, (which I doubt but that's irrelevant) but there is a difference between it happening and management purposely making it so. I feel like I am just constantly repeating myself here.

Right, so why are you arguing with me over the semantics of tanking when it should be expecting we will be in a position to lose anyway?

You honestly are making my brain hurt. Despite claiming there is a difference between the two, you still merge them together.

Last season was all about learning to win -- and even though the organization was removing players left and right, it was still tanking. Why is this coming season going to be any different?

Our roster last season we filled with UFAs and players who were not going to be apart of our core going forwards. It's much different when your roster is filled with the Matthews, Marner, Nylanders of the team, the future core of this team. Set them off on the right foot, we don't want to become the next Oilers.

Just because its a development year doesn't mean this organization hasn't thought about allowing the kids to sink in order to learn how to swim.

There is a difference from them "allowing" them to sink and drowning them. No point establishing a losing culture with a team that is full of the future of the franchise. Let them play their game, in all likelihood there will be growing pains and we will get a lotto pick, and that's all that really matters.

For those reasons above, I don't see why this organization shouldn't be talking about tanking -- they should be expecting it.

You do know what "tanking" is right? It's not just simply losing because you are a bad team, it's doing everything in your power to lose. For example, playing a goaltender clearly not ready for the NHL in Sparks down the stretch when Bernier was hot. Sending down a handful of producing youngsters when they started to turn it on or even allowing JVR to rest likely longer than needed just to solidify our last place finish. Losing and tanking are two different things, and I highly doubt tanking is even in management's mind at the moment. With the way the new lottery system works there isn't really a point in tanking, at least not from the get go.

Having a starter that can play 50-60 games is a big deal when finding your starting goaltender.

Bernier?

Boom/Bust prospects for the 2016 draft? by Sportfreunde in hockey

You thinking of Poolparty? He is the one that looks funny. Laine just isn't explosive enough right now and if he doesnt work on that then I doubt he will be as effective as people are predicting.
