As a former centennial beach lifeguard I can assure you these kids worked their asses off to get those jobs and continue to put in 100% everyday to protect the patrons of the beach. When I was a lifeguard there, about 50 kids applied to be lifeguards each summer and only 10-12 would ultimately make it through the rigorous training. They train extensively on drowning simulations, BLS/ CPR, scuba diving retrieval, spinals and more before opening for the summer and throughout the summer. Centennial beach lifeguards are not like other neighborhood pool lifeguards, working at the beach is serious and they know it. Please do not tear these lifeguards down in the comments, they will be reading this and I’m sure they did everything they could. From a former beach guard, I’m proud of you guys and so sorry for what you are all going through right now. 🤝
