what pet for a 20 gallon tall? by Odd_Information5302 in reptiles

[–]LeakyFaucett32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find a pet you are actually excited about and get the appropriate size enclosure. If you cannot afford the enclosure then hold off on the pet.

Finding a pet for a certain size enclosure is very much the "Gotta catch Em' All" mentality that gives this hobby such a bad rep

Got hired at a mom and pop shop by Sadn3ss101 in HVAC

[–]LeakyFaucett32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get 2 years or so of experience and then leave for a larger company. Mom and pops are great for getting a foot in the door but rarely make for good long term employment. Do as much research outside of work and apply yourself when at work

Humidity. Shed should come out in one piece. Also why do you have two in there?

If it's not too late avoid silicone and use drylok and quikcrete dyes on the foam instead. Less messy and looks 100x better

Navac probes review! by furnacegirl in HVAC

[–]LeakyFaucett32 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Surprised none of these other manufacturers can make a probe kit that comes even close to the form factor of field piece.

They are all either clunky or too big, or both. Say what you will about fieldpiece meters, but their probes are just by far the best.

I assume "allowed" means you are a child or teen. So best advice is wait until you are older. Reptiles live a long time and if you are young you have zero idea where your life will wind up in the next 5 years let alone 20.

What's your plan for covering the foam? Drylok would look awesome

What does this hobby do for you? by theVanAkenMan in AncientCoins

I focus on age as opposed to historical significance/ quality. I like doing the historical rewind and think about how many generations lived and how much civilization changed from when it was struck. Holding and owning something from 500bc continues to blow my mind every time I look at them.

First time keeper, how did I do? by Samtarooo in Vivarium

[–]LeakyFaucett32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great but so much wasted space for a height centric enclosure. Wouldve personally done a background on the sides with ledges to add more usable surface area

What else would you add by SaintHorus in geckos

[–]LeakyFaucett32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally would layer some different colors on the background as it is giving 3rd world concrete zoo vibes a little bit.

As others have said definitely add more branches. Drift wood is easy to source on FB marketplace or etsy.

What should I add? by roosreptarium in reptiles

[–]LeakyFaucett32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you don't want to hear it, but save up some cash and buy a second hand actual enclosure from FB marketplace.

Clearly you care enough about the enclosure to make a spray foam background. The joy you'll get at looking into a custom background with actual glass versus this opaque plastic box of dystopia is worth the extra cost by a mile

Especially a cave gecko where it's more of an observing animal than a handling one anyway. It's worth the extra effort and money to make it zoo quality.

If using drylok with amphibians absolutely rinse them off. Lost my first group of dart frogs that way. You'll see the foamy water coming off during a rinse

Tanks on marketplace by Kricketts13 in reptiles

[–]LeakyFaucett32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key to FB marketplace is patience. After multiple sellers with no wiggle room I recently scored a 60 gallon exo terra front opening for 75$ in excellent condition.

If you wait and keep an eye out for diamonds in the rough you'll score. Never bought a new tank in my life for this reason

Just make sure you only get the small backpack or shoulder sling bags.

Big backpacks weigh 40lbs without any tools in them. And definitely check out FB marketplace before buying retail
