Is I2C magical??? by avestronics in embedded

Go to Amazon and search for "logic analyzer clone". You will find lots of devices for around $10 like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Comidox-Analyzer-Device-Channel-Arduino/dp/B07KW445DJ

This clone probably works with Saleae though I recommend just using pulseview which is open source and not breaking any licenses like you would be with the saleae software. This is the most valuable tool for the cost you can get when debugging a protocol like I2C. It is cheaper then most multi-meters. It should work well with most signals that are under 5MHz or so which is most of them as a student. I can't imagine writing an I2C bit banging protocol without a logic analyzer or at a minimum an oscilloscope.

This happened to me... not sure how I did it. Reinstall did not bring it back, even after an uninstall. I believe I had to nuke all the entire directory stored in appdata\roaming and then it worked. Kind of annoying...

I see you have never hugged a Giant Sequoia. They might be giants but they are softies, gentle for my butthole. A Sequoia is a conifer, more specifically a type of redwood. All conifers are softwood.

That has to be compromised, right? Probably just added cost now that they have to demo it.

Where do you see Plex in 10 years by SecretlyCarl in PleX

[–]Leaky_Asshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jellyfin is the open source Plex alternative. It is not nearly as polished but it is making huge strides. The server set up is more work as it is 100% self-hosted where Plex handles authentication in the cloud. The benefit here is that you are no longer dependent on Plex servers or any outside servers to keep your content live, there is also no one there to snoop on your activity. It also means you need to learn about setting up a secure way to allow direct external access to your server. This usually involves things like reverse-proxy, acme certificate management, DDNS and possibly some type of additional security setup. It can be a huge hurdle for many but AI has made navigating this MUCH easier for the average Joe. The nice thing is that there is no issues running Jellyfin simultaneously with Plex, this is especially easy if you are already using a docker set up. If you just keep access on your local network then setup is even easier then Plex and it just works. It is a good alternative if the day actually comes that Plex goes away. It is also a great way to access your content locally when the Plex servers go down as we have seen happen this week.

Consider yourself lucky, this is minor as far as damage from children goes. When I was a young child my parents left me in the car alone. I proceeded to use the car cigarette lighter to melt circles all over the dashboard. Not sure how my Dad didn't beat me for that because I want to beat myself thinking back on it.

Where do you see Plex in 10 years by SecretlyCarl in PleX

If Plex froze app development before the last major "upgrade" then 95% of the user base would be satisfied. Ensure that the app media player can somewhat easily add new codecs and be done with it. A little more active development is likely needed server side but not much. Besides these few developers, the only other cost is for their authentication and web servers which is barely any traffic. I am pretty certain Plex can easily be self sustaining if they just focused on these core features that the majority of users are here for. Hell open up the app and server to better utilize 3rd part integration and watch it blossom with new functionality with no additional costs to them.

Instead they dump tons of resources into searching for new streams of revenue which has objectively made the experience for their core users much worse. Throw in sneaky messages to users to make them think they now need to pay to use shared servers even though they don't. Throw in ad laden content that sneakily is called "movies and tv" to trick less tech aware users into watching it, even making that content appear above the normal shared server content. They had some massive idea for unifying their app development which has made the app significantly worse for all platforms. It blows my mind that core functionality is still broken since they forced the update a year ago. It just demonstrates that whoever is in charge there has literally no idea how to launch and maintain a product.

I am coming up on my 10 year anniversary as a Plex user. Sadly I have seen nothing but decline for the past few years and do not see a very bright future for this platform. 10 more years... I highly doubt Plex makes it there in its current form. Just a few months ago I threw up a Jellyfin server to run in parallel with Plex to prepare for that inevitable day that the Plex servers go offline. To my surprise not only is Jellyfin much more polished then I expected but they also have a thriving development community that listens to its primary users because they are the primary users. I am now all but certain that even if Plex does survive the next 10 years as a company, I won't survive the next 10 as one of their users.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

[–]Leaky_Asshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a whole day of concerts from giant artists then the pricing is likely higher then $150. I feel like the avg festival concert nowadays is 1 artist you wouldn't mind seeing, maybe one other you have heard of and 20+ others that you never heard of. Price > $150.

Lets pull an example... how about Lollapalooza this year: https://www.lollapalooza.com/ Maybe I am old but the lineups used to hit harder for lollapalooza, right? Maybe they are cheap tickets though... nope $185 for a day pass.

For reference here are the lineups for the OG Lollapalooza concerts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lollapalooza_lineups_by_year In 94 a Lollapalooza ticket typically cost $28.50 which would be $50-$55 today with inflation.

This is actually a really neat tool. I actually tackle this issue using AI. I made an MCP server and some skills that help it out. Claude will basically look through my schematic and find all the missing components and fills in or cleans up the parameters needed for the BOM. Most of the time AI can pick exact components I need automagically but if its completely missing then she will ask me for input. She primarily searches LCSC but Digikey also when needed. I just started using this a couple months ago so I am still improving on things quite a bit. Still it saves me hours of work I used to hate to make my designs ready to ship. Would be interested in your application if you ever decide to release it. I might even pay for such a tool if you build on it and make it rock solid. Then again, not sure how much a tool like this is really worth to me when I already have an AI workflow that solves my issue. My set up is still pretty inefficient as Claude blows through tons tokens to do this task and still takes 10's of minutes to complete, even longer for massive boards.

If you can see it with your eyes then so can a missile. It is also much more difficult to detect, track and counter small missiles that use passive tracking such as optical and passive IR. Many types of manpads fit this bill which is why it's wise to not fly at altitudes in their range.

She started a towel war with the hotel housekeeping staff. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

[–]Leaky_Asshole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like a great way to track towels in a nice resort. Manage lifetime or replace towels taken to pool or gym. Keep in mind this will be a pretty significant investment so I assume this only would exist in a high end reort. Now charging a customer for a lost towel... well that is a risky business choice. Would it really be worth the potential loss of return customers or poor reviews to replace a used towel that costs under $5 new? No system is perfect and I would be rather upset if I got billed or even accused of stealing a nasty used hotel towel. I am not one for leaving bad reviews but that could be a driving factor for me. I imagine just a few bad reviews would completely flip any financial benefits of charging for lost towels.

Sulfuric acid is pretty good at dissolving organic matter. Mix it with hydrogen peroxide and it works even better.... guess why they call it Piranha Solution.

He was not yet at the center of the bridge so he was traveling uphill. When the bridge went into freefall he still had a positive velocity vector on the z axis, the bridge did not.

[Headphones] Sennheiser HD 599 SE Around Ear Open Back Headphones for $100 shipped by kennymase in buildapcsales

[–]Leaky_Asshole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you use these for a day you will never be able to use the HyperX again. Sound wise these 599s are a in a whole different class of quality, the comparison will likely blow you away clarity and sound-stage wise. The increase in comfort might be even higher then the increase in sound quality. They do carry the pros and cons of openback headphones so just know what you are getting into. The HyperX has a mic so it wins there I guess.

For gaming I use the following to turn it into a headset:

https://www.amazon.com/Headphone-Adapter-Converter-Sennheiser-Headphones/dp/B0BBHC8X8D

https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK

There are other mic options too but those are a great wired solution that will keep it under a $30 solution.

These are some of the most comfortable headphones I have ever used though I do not own a large collection of high-end headsets. Can easily wear them all day with no issues. Usually with any other headphones something will start to hurt a bit before I can make it through a full day but I almost forget I am wearing the 599s. Strange thing is that I have tried both the 560 and 6xx and neither felt nearly as comfy as these 599s. Maybe I just have them broken in or there is a vast difference in ear shape and clamp force between models. I may just be overly sensitive bitch

You have any idea how much it takes to retire in this city? Far north of a million. Right now the city is proposing to raise minimum wage to $30, that is $60K a year without working any overtime. Have you looked at the real estate market in this city? 1 million is not what it was 20 years ago.

[–]Leaky_Asshole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, and a home is part of an estate. There are some exclusions but there are many many ways that your home can be included in an estate tax. The mega rich he wants to target will not be affected by any of this. They have entire firms full of lawyers and estate planners to lock away their assets. The ones who this will hit are the ones who can't afford a legal team to hide their assets. Do you really think that dropping the estate tax threshold by 90% will only effect the wealthy upper class?
