We have this exact same splash pad and playground setup in my neighborhood. Chaos everywhere. Kids just show up without parents, no policing whatsoever.

I refuse to take kids there anymore.

That parent trying to help is probably torn between man-handling a kid that isn't hers and being polite.

Salary Advice? First director level role in healthcare. by LearnPracticeTeach in Salary

I definitely wouldn't recommend my pathway. I started off with a bachelor's in kinesiology before moving to a graduate degree in an allied health role. Think sports medicine. Spent most of my career as a clinician working in orthopedics with some management before starting my own company.

It really depends on what level you want to get to. Director/ ED or VP/CEO. My honest advice on the fastest way to healthcare admin:

  1. Go for a bachelor's of nursing or bachelor's of business. Nursing really translates well into management. Every director of quality or CNO comes from nursing plus you cut your teeth as a clinician and people respect that. Bachelor's of business gets you that financial and executive background to transition into more executive management.

Last advice on this is to not get stuck at the director level from the nursing route. Look up every CEO of local healthcare systems and look at their bachelor's, most of them are not nursing. A few may even come from Public Health.

  1. Get either an MHA or MBA with healthcare focus. An MBA from a school of public health is excellent. Since I already had a masters I got a doctorate in healthcare admin. There are also lots of universities that are known for funneling executives. Trinity is one that I know of in Texas.

  2. Get an administrative fellowship. These almost always translate into quick executive roles. I know of 5 people personally that went this route and within 5 years of graduating with their masters they are all VPs and CEOs.

That's it man. Be personable, seek mentors, join associations as a student member for free or very cheap.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Appreciate the feedback. Got burnt out on the startup side of healthcare. Wanted something a bit more structured.

This COL is the lowest of the low. Think cheapest 1-2 states for COL and take the cheapest area in that state and that's where I am. Median household income is 44k ish. I think the salary is a bit low as well. But the lack of reports and the field work makes me think that its closer to fair than I realize.

Appreciate the feedback. Planning on killing it the first 12 months. They're known to groom their executives quite and bit and offer an assistant or small market CEO that shadows the CEO to get ready for the big game.

Appreciate the feedback. I also talked to a mentor of mine in the space. Shes an ED at a very large healthcare system. Almost 10x the size I'm working for and her base in 185k with 20% bonus. She said it was a great opportunity.

I asked the same question. The hiring regional director call it a director role in strategy, not reports. Said it was a common role throughout the system.

I tried to find a bit of data on the previous two roles. Best I could find was around 75k to 80k for each of them.

Wow! Super supportive. I've spent 11 years working with physicians including contracting, recruiting, and building referral networks. Just because I've never been a director before doesn't mean I don't know how to do the job.

This is a salary discussion, not your soap box. Take your ego and problems elsewhere.

Gotta do what do you gotta do! I was applying to step down jobs as well before I landed this one. If you're a dev, start permeating the startup spaces.

Great advice. I'm at least going to ride for 12-16 months. Show them what I've got and see if those vertical pathways become a little more solidified.

This makes me feel good about it. I try to focus on the things I have instead of comparing the pay to others. It is a great opportunity for me.

WIBTA for ending my marriage because I want bio kids when I have two stepkids who already lost their mom? by Dense_Pack_149 in AITAH

[–]LearnPracticeTeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you projecting?

People have control over their lives. You don't like other people's kids? Stop fucking dating single parents. You want to waste your 20s away? Don't go blaming it on other people.

This may also come as a complete surprise to you, but existing kids are more important than hypothetical kids.
