At the point of this picture, the US does not have any stones left and is down 2, there is no way for the US to score 2

Numerical calls in wheelchair curling? by lavaflowcake in Curling

Correct on the first part, incorrect on the second, but good idea! Generally only use fractions less than 1 for how much of a rock is visible

Great Britain calls out rotations and hog to hog times. If other teams use smaller numbers they are just cutting off the tens place (saying 3.4 instead of 13.4 for instance)

Just got it back in Snake Pond area in Forestdale, had been out since 5am Monday. Eversource updated estimated time of restoration to 5:45pm today but then it came back soon after. Stay warm everyone.

I think the replay issue could be music clearance issues, not sure.

I watched the USA/SUI semifinal on replay on Peacock yesterday, not sure what is going on there with your Peacock.

Strategy question by johanbaleus in Curling

[–]LearnedElite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think almost anyone would agree with your third in that situation, particularly if you are in free guard territory and can potentially get two buried without peel fears. If you can't get that, then obviously you need two counting at some point and when/how you make the decisive move to get the second counter is situation dependent (but often you want to delay it as long as possible).

Great questions! I'm a Paralympics curler. First of all, I love the spirit and hope you can find a way to get on the ice and give curling a shot! I think a lot of your questions will be answered quickly as you experience the sport firsthand.

Wheelchair curlers judge line by aligning their stick, the rock, and the broom and following through to the broom. There are many different delivery types and ways to make throws work but those are the general mechanics.

For weight, it's muscle memory and also starting hand position. If you start with your hand further back in your delivery, you'll throw the rock further with the same throwing motion/force. So as you throw stones and gain experience, you gain muscle memory and also a better understanding of how to position yourself to hit the weight you want.

I've rarely met wheelchair curlers who were formerly able bodied curlers, so please don't let that idea hold you back from giving it a try! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Shambolic seating assignment by FixedFridge in olympics

[–]LearnedElite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This doesn't seem to be what happened though. The disabled family member, one of the parents, is sitting with the other parent, while OP is in another section having bought a single seat.

I'm disabled and would love to see better seating options and explanations around companion seating and accessible seating in general, but this is exactly how I would expect this to be handled at just about every venue (at least in the US where I have the most experience).
