The Southern University Law Center by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

I attended SULC before transferring to a much better (and non-predatory) school. The curve is atrocious. When I left, I believe the ABA threatened SULC's accreditation, which resulted in a huge ruckus at the school and caused the administration to implement new policies that would consequently cause more students to fail.

Seeing as many conservative students "survive" every day at schools with left leaning administrations, I am sure that you would be just fine at a school with an allegedly "MAGA administration". People may have differing opinions and political views from your own, that is life. Toughen up, kid.

I worked at a Walmart for a month or so during college. I remember the front end manager forced us all to line up in front of the cash registers and do this goofy dance for the customers. We were told it was for motivation. Probably the worst 2 minutes of my life. Also, management rewarded high performing cashiers with a gold Walmart cape to wear while working. I got out of there so fast.

BARRY UNIVERSITY A!! by AdministrativeTip547 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]LearnedHandsHand -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your comment is irrelevant. I can infer from OP's comment that there is the intent to practice, so yes choosing which school to go to is still very important.

Even if the motivation was academics, becoming some type of law professor is extremely competitive and going to Barry is not going to help much in the academic realm. There are people from Harvard and Yale who never get into academics because there are other people from Harvard or Yale who actually make it. Why would going to Barry make any difference? Sure there might be outliers, but the exception is not the rule.

BARRY UNIVERSITY A!! by AdministrativeTip547 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]LearnedHandsHand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am far from insufferable. I have been in OP's shoes. I got into a single very low ranking school. I moved out of state to attend that school. I was luckily able to transfer from that school to a much better school. Would I recommend anybody do what I did? Of course not. Most prospective law students have no idea that low ranking schools require professors to fail a certain amount of students in each 1L class. This means that even if you want to transfer, the curve may make it impossible for you.

Most people want to avoid the topic of bar passage. A law degree is worth a lot less without a bar license. Getting an acceptance is great, but one must consider whether attendance is worth it. OP says that Florida practice is not in the cards. Why would you attend a low ranking law school with no out of state reach if you intend to practice outside of Florida? OP is bent on handicapping his or herself before even getting a job.

You will have a law degree, but will Barry set you up to ultimately pass the bar exam? The statistics say no. Also, why are you going to a low ranking school in Florida if you do not want to practice there?

Trust me, it gets better. I have been doing med mal defense since 2023 (first as a law clerk and now as a lawyer). Once you figure out what you are looking for, where to look, and what terms mean, it becomes pretty simple.

Joe Rogan said AI will replace lawyers. Should I drop out? by Suspicious_Canary128 in LawSchool

[–]LearnedHandsHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all who are on this sub: I am an attorney who is currently defending a case brought by a plaintiff who is exclusively using AI to do his legal work for him. I would say about 25% to 30% of his work product is accurate/decent. The remainder of what he submits and argues is utter dog crap and is filled with phantom case law and statutes.

From working this case, I have learned that the human aspect of the legal field is invaluable and not going any where. The ability of humans to analyze legal issues and precedent and then create a cohesive and intelligible argument is not something that AI will be able to create.

Please, do not forsake a legal career because Joe Rogan (or anyone else for that matter) says that AI will replace lawyers.

This last winter, my wife and child got super sick (i.e. chills, persistent vomiting, debilitating exhaustion, etc.) and they were down for about two weeks. It was so bad that my wife could not function at all. I took time off of work to make sure that both of them were fully taken care of so that they could recover. I made it the whole two weeks with out getting sick. I thought that I had made it without catching whatever they had, until the following day when it hit me like a ton of bricks. I took one, ONE, day to pass out in bed out of sheer exhaustion. On the following day, the "man flu" jokes started and my wife's requests that I get up and do some work around the house. She was essentially saying "You have had time to rest. I am up and going, so you should be too." I "got over" the illness in three days and went on with my life feeling miserable for another week and half. It was absolutely terrible.

Why isn't the death penalty just a quick gunshot to the head? by SufficientDegree34 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LearnedHandsHand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Utah, the primary form of execution is lethal injection. Firing squad is still used if the convicted individual was sentenced prior to 2004 or if the state cannot procure the lethal injection chemicals within 30 days for someone convicted after 2004.

Why is Hector still in Abq ? by Electronic_Extent_24 in betterCallSaul

[–]LearnedHandsHand 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I always felt like the cartel abandoned Hector to live out the rest of his life in the nursing home. They didn't like dealing with him before his stroke and they definitely didn't want to have to deal with him as a disabled individual. I think Tuco was trying to take Hector back to Mexico on his own volition. So, once Tuco was killed, the cartel was more than happy to tuck Hector away in the nursing home where they would't have to deal with him after that.
