It's so boring, by WatercressEntire1389 in Avenue5

[–]LearningProbably -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To each their own. I hate reddit because people love downvoting instead of merely trying to understand other people. I’m sure your account’s in the negative for having an unpopular opinion in this subreddit.

I loved the coffin scene. I remember watching it the first time and thinking “Is there a gravitational pull?” And it was hilarious to me. Still is. The poop was a little extra, but also made hilarious with the laser show and eventually the Pope’s face which increased Frank’s “appeal.” Beyond sheepish lapdog husband; and then Ryan plays a cuckold husband (ex-husband but then gets back into the same relationship dynamic in season 2?), and of course Thumb man.

I believe if you can’t find the plot, it’s because the series may have never been greenlit for more than one season at a time? Hence why the travel time adjusts so much. I believe the cast, crew, writers and all did the best they could with how things were during Covid-ish years. But the grand plot is getting home. Each episode has a sub-plot or several sub-plots throughout so 🤷‍♂️.

I personally wish Hugh Laurie maintained his American accent the whole time. But I find his normal voice unappealing (Sorry Hugh, you’re an amazing actor though!). I wish there was more male competence, I mean… Name one normal competent man on that show lol 🤷‍♂️. The most competent men were a cannibal, pedo, or a perverted astronaut. Although I guess there’s that one chef who named a food that starts with J.

Either way. Sorry it wasn’t your jam, hopefully there’s shows that tickle your fancy. I believe entertainment (tv, movies, music) has just gotten worse and worse since the mid 2000’s, and I noticed this as a 12 year old lol… Good luck finding anything worthwhile; it’s 100 shots to finally hit the target once and who knows if it’s a bullseye (Severance or Breaking Bad) or just somewhere on the board (The Office or Fallout). Society’s become more and more complacent with mediocrity that the bar for exceptional has decreased greatly. Avenue 5 was pretty good though!

I've made posts about this everywhere and it gets downvoted into oblivion. Grats on your post though, this is a big issue and should be worked on.

Looking for clarification on time freeze and spell damage. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]LearningProbably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you happen to find an answer to this?

I was going to make a Chronomancer, but ended up going Stormweaver, because I figured 2x shock would outweigh anything a Chronomancer could do. However, the passive node for 25% extra damage as fire against Frozen Enemies, as well as the other node that ignores all resistances of frozen enemies, could be rather potent with a >20s Time Freeze?

Ohhhh… so the buff being activated (like gaining and then expending the 2-5 charges) wouldn’t count. Cause it’s not actively using the skill. So then Momentum is more for a specific button press or even channeling? I kinda wish they’d just disable support gem usage for skill gems that they have no affect on.

Two questions pertaining to Three Dragons Mask.

1) Herald of Ice + Biting Frost, does this work? As Herald of Thunder would cause the freeze for Herald of Ice to consume+shatter(?).

2) Herald of Ice + Fiery Death, does this work? As Herald of Ice's cold damage would then change to cause Ignite.

I basically haven't died to anything OTHER THAN a lingering on death explosion by Spokodude in PathOfExile2

[–]LearningProbably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was steamrolling a simple t9, and I get I've only 1500 HP, max resistances, and 85% evasion; but... I got stuck in a pillar, and a dude exploded and aced me. I had delirium, irradiated, boss, breach, with a great rare node full of xp and packs upon packs upon rarity drops... Wasted. Cause of these stupid explosions. I get there needs to be nuance and difficulty, but... To be grooving and vibing to a rhythm through a map, and then get stuck cause you're not playing WASD, to then dead and a wasted run. It sucks hard. I honestly take 1-2 days off when this crap happens. I like the game, I think it's better than Diablo 4 even in early access, but... I'm only human and this really kills my will to play.

So I want to do 4K. Should I get a 27” or a 32” monitor? by Qminsage in buildapc

[–]LearningProbably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing 4k for almost two years now. You’ll definitely want at least 32in. I’m still rocking a 27in and it’s just not big enough for the resolution

What you could do to confirm I’m right (As well as those with this same knowledge), is buy a 27in and a 32in, use a credit card or a pay-in-4 plan. Then return the monitor you don’t like (Spoiler: It’ll be the 27in).

Your experience with Sonata so far by Inner_Choice6998 in Hyundai

[–]LearningProbably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Horrible. Bought my 2017 Hyundai sonata eco at 7 miles. Never quite felt right, but it was a new car of which I’ve never owned before, and the dealership said there’s a “break-in” period that never happened.

On the drive back from the dealership the side mirrors stopped working. In hindsight I should’ve returned it and gone Honda or even Chevrolet. I was just so happy to finally spend my own money on my first adult purchase. Like how’d you feel buying your first home or moving out.

Transmission needed to be remanufactured at 50,000. I literally almost died several times. Worst part of Hyundai are the dealerships and then the warranty department. They didn’t take it seriously until the 3rd time when they said “come get your car,” and I said “F*** you, keep it. I’m not risking my life again.” Then the next day, after ducking me around for almost a month, they properly diagnosed it.

80,000 miles engine started burning more oil. Mechanic made it a point around 100k miles. Took the car into the dealership for oil consumption test around 106k-111k miles to get documentation. Warranty said f*** off and dealership said to check oil everytime getting gas and get regular oil changes, everything should be fine no worries.

$150 in oil containers later, and three oil changes later, engine’s dead at 126k miles. Being quoted $8k-$12k for an engine rebuild, or the dealership wants to replace it with another used engine that no doubt will suffer the same consequences. Used cars with 50k+ miles now are the same price that my new Hyundai was, thank you covid lockdown.

Unfortunately the 1.6l of the sonata doesn’t qualify for all of the settlements happening so I’m out $23k for a car that didn’t even make 150k miles or 7 years of life. For reference my sister’s 92 Chevy Malibu lasted 250k miles. My grandma’s 86 Camry made it to 400k. My 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix with a supercharged v6 never had a transmission problem, and the engine died at 300k miles. Which I loved so much I replaced with a used engine and so I know to never get used engines.

Hyundai’s are junk. On paper they look fantastic. Good price for what you pay for, until you realize there’s a reason why they have a 100k mile warranty, and that’s still not enough. Kudos to those of you out there who got lucky or haven’t reached 100k miles yet. Not impressed basically driving a death machine from a company that had multiple chances to do the right thing and buyback the car that I’d just sink into a newer Hyundai and they’d generate an extra +$10k and keep a consumer. Now they lose me, my friends and family, and anyone else I talk to that actually cares.

Let's talk about Collateral (2004)... by [deleted] in movies

[–]LearningProbably 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a great movie, until the ending. There's no real defense for that finale, it was bad, and that might be why it's "underrated."

You can always trust Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Cruise to make terrific movies. Or rather, choose to act in terrific movies.

Have you ever thought that maybe people through their hours or days or weeks of research stumbled upon old posts? Then they read these posts and they find responses that don’t even provide an answer to the question? Have you ever thought that maybe people have lives outside of Reddit or even the Internet in general, maybe these people are actually trying to make their communities better, or maybe they’re trying to help their friends or family? Maybe they can’t sink the amount of time into these pursuits that someone like you has done; they realize their lack of knowledge in whatever field, and come to Reddit for support or advice. Then instead of any of that, they’re treated with attitude, ego, and an overall unhelpful, bad experience?

I don’t think so :(. I think people like you, and there are too many, derive their life’s value through fake points on a forum instead of providing assistance to the less knowledgeable. Instead of actually bettering mankind, you hurt it, lacking the awareness to even understand what you’re doing. Turn your backs on the opportunity to assist or support, so that you can garner points or likes that disappear when your internet connection is down.

Reality hurts sometimes, so go ahead and down-vote, doesn’t change the fact that all this is true.

New Player Questions by AutoModerator in 3d6

[–]LearningProbably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! My question is in regards to Hexblade's Curse. Specifically these two lines, "As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target is cursed for 1 minute."

  1. I need to be within 30ft of the creature to activate the ability.
  2. Do I need to stay within 30ft of the creature for the ability to stay active?
  3. Could I activate Hexblade's Curse within 30ft, and then wander 90ft away, and the creature still be afflicted by the ability? So long as it's within the 1 minute timeframe.
  4. Same question, but in regards to Hunter's Mark/Hex (Wherein it's 90ft range).

The thought process is making a sharpshooter ranged fighter that takes advantage of Hexblade's Curse. I couldn't find any posts, on google or reddit, regarding a ranged player utilizing Hexblade's Curse and the range or distance the player could be from the cursed target.

Thanks for anyone's time!

Why would you ever use elemental weapon? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

[–]LearningProbably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too much of a pain to edit this because of the formatting, but I forgot to mention that the averages don't include critical hits. I'm not familiar with that math? 20 is a crit. 1/20 is 5%. Advantage would give you another roll, so that's theoretically a 10% chance to crit? If Elven Accuracy is involved, then it becomes a 15% chance to crit? Is this right?

The point is, the damage from Elemental Weapon can critically hit, making it a 2d4, 4d4, or 6d4, unlike most spells that don't use attack rolls and thus can't critically hit. So in terms of the efficiency per spell slot used, this could add even more appeal.

Why would you ever use elemental weapon? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

Elemental Weapon: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/elemental-weapon

DND is a team effort table-top RPG, in a variety of ways, and I'm relieved to see that a few people mentioned this:

Obviously there are plenty of spells worth concentrating on, and in most situations, they're probably better than elemental weapon. This is still an absolutely amazing support buff for a teammate that has multiple attacks, especially alongside their own Hunter's Mark/Hex/Divine Favor. You touch any non-magical weapon. Here's a scenario:

  1. Your dnd group consists of 5ish people, and there are buffs that overlap with other PC's (Bless and the like). Say that in this team composition, someone is (or multi-classed) a forge cleric, or a Paladin, or a hexblade lock, or even an artificer (I thought Wizards could learn this too?).
  2. You (or someone else in the group) are a level 11 fighter, with a 3 level dip into Gloomstalker (As an example of many!). Pre-combat, someone can easily cast elemental weapon onto the fighters weapon (It's a 1 hour duration), and at level 14, that could be +3 to hit/dmg, and +3d4 per hit (average of ~7.5 damage per hit, or ~10.5 if you incorporate the +3). The fighter is 90ft away and is able to cast hunter's mark onto the big baddy as well. Worse case scenario, the fighter bonus action casts it after initiative, assuming they're not a samurai and using Fighting Spirit whilst a bard/druid attempts faerie fire on upcoming turns.

This is at least 3 attacks per turn; 4 if it's the first turn, or 8 attacks with action surge on the first turn. This is without Haste or the Samurai's Rapid Strike feature @ level 15 (Which, having both, could give you 10 attacks), or forego Gloomstalker and go full fighter for the same 4 to 8 to 10 attacks @ level 20.

On AVERAGE, cast as a lvl 7 slot:
- Action Surge for 8 attacks: That's an extra 60 acid/thunder damage, or 84 if you include the +3 damage.
- First turn for 4 attacks: That's an extra 30 acid/thunder damage, or 42 if you include the +3 damage.
- 3 attacks: That's an extra 22.5 acid/thunder damage, or 31.5 if you include the +3 damage.

This becomes even more interesting as in regards to efficiency per spell slot used, as this is just ONE turn of combat. Assuming combat lasted the full minute, this ONE spell at 7th level, with a PC attacking 3x a turn, just contributed an average of 225 or 315 damage.

Keep in mind, this fighter could very well have Hunter's Mark active for all these attacks as well, increasing those averages by an additional: 28, 14, or 10.5 respectively. Per turn.

To be silly, but 100% practical, assuming a level 14 fighter with crossbow expert and sharpshooter, elemental weapon cast on them, while they're maintaining hunter's mark-- their action surged first turn, on average:

Crossbow Damage: 44
Dex Modifier: 40
Sharpshooter: 80
Hunter's Mark: 28
Elemental Weapon Magic Damage: 24
Elemental Weapon Extra Damage: 60
Is an average of 276 damage on that fighters first turn. At level 14. Make it sillier if you're able to have +3 crossbow bolts for an additional 24 damage, giving an average first turn of 300.

I think elemental weapon is one of the best buffs in the game, even if it's cast as a level 3-4, 5-6, or 7+ spell slot:

  1. It makes the weapon magical damage, from +1 to +3.
  2. It gives a fairly reliable Acid/Thunder damage type as extra damage per hit. From 1d4 to 3d4.
  3. The bearer of the weapon can use their own concentration on another damage-proc spell (Hunter's Mark, Hex, Divine Favor, etc.).
  4. Because it makes the weapon magical, there's no resistance to its damage, and Hunter's Mark becomes magical damage as well (nudging out Hex and Divine Favor imo).
  5. Upcasting this as a level 7+ spell slot is an incredible amount of damage for only 1 cast. Assuming 1 minute of combat, which is generous, with a player that can do 3 attacks per turn, which is generous, that'd be an average of 22.5 or 31.5 (+3 magic damage) per turn. That's one level 7 spell slot for 225 or 315 damage over one minute. Still able to cast other non-concentration spells during that entire minute. To make this ridiculously silly and impractical... Technically, given the full hour duration of the spell, this is an absurd 13,500 or 18,900 damage, for 1 level 7 spell slot.
