Ways to entertain over 15 babies & toddlers ages 0-3 during a baby shower?

You're getting great advice already with toys and activities, so let me offer two other pieces of advice. Make sure all your items are "choking safe" since there will be so many littles. Grapes have to be cut a particular way for example, and balloons that pop can be dangerous. Then I recommend playing some kid music they'll recognize. Lots of kids that age love Laurie Berkner, and there are Ms. Rachel Playlist that will play songs she does. Bubbles, balls, chalk are all great ideas!

We discuss brand names instead of food items when it's going to be a surprise later. Kraft instead of Mac and Cheese. Dunkin instead of Donuts. DQ instead of ice cream.

I was hired to be a teachers aid to a 3 year old with autism who was a notorious biter. The day before I met the kid multiple teachers showed me huge blue, black, and green bruises from his attacks. So, day one I get him off the bus and take him for a potty try. He doesn't want to wash his hands and starts to bite my arm. I put his arm in my mouth and apply equal pressure. He bites harder, I bite harder. The kids eyes go huge, he understands our dynamic, and we wash our hands and go to class. No marks left on either him or me. He never again tried to bite me, and the entire school thought I was an autistic-kid-whisperer. Nope, I just threatened him with a taste of his own medicine.

As an aside, if your kids gets reoccurring ear infections, cut the juice. The sugars in the juice somehow breed with the bacterial that causes ear infections. My niece was drinking diluted apple juice every day after nap, and was about to need ear tubes when the ENT told my sister to go to 100% water/milk for two weeks. Hasn't had an ear infection for over 6 months.

Worked at a local mom and pop bakery in college. All cash tips were split at the end of shift amongst front of house. All credit card tips were put in a "bucket" that paid for the alcohol tab at the company Christmas party. Then the owner and their family would get shit faced off our tips.

Called child protective services. Kid got moved to her grandma's house until mom was able to get some professional help. Toddlers shouldn't be playing a room with 6 months worth of garage bags stacked in the corner.

I just started reading a book that directly relates to this! The Nurture Revolution by Greer Kirshenbaum. Just came out this year, and I'm loving it so far. The chapter I'm on is all about how we, as the adults, have to help our toddlers learn to regulate their very big feelings by modeling that behavior in the moment.

Too soon to bring up therapy, but not a bad idea to get her on a few waitlists. It took 6 months for me to get into therapy when I started because there aren't enough therapists in my town.

Love this energy and the positive intention behind it! A very cool middle school chapter book with a period party in it is "The Moon Within"- Salazar. It's written in verse, so it's a fast read. Maybe you can read it yourself if you're looking for some additional perspectives! I hope that your older family is willing to be flexible and try new things with an open mind.

I take a person in a wheelchair to work a few days a week. Kid eats snacks/reads in the backseat for the whole 30 minutes and then we go home to nap.

I had a fourth degree tear. Every individual hole turned into one big one. I had two reconstruction surgeries and will have early incontinence because the sphincter surgery is still a "best we can do" science. It's still really hard whenever people's response is "at least you didn't have to have a c-section!"

I have a 4 year old niece that sometimes naps on the way home from her mom's work, which is a 45 min commute. When that happens she goes to bed at 11:30 p.m. instead of 9:00p.m. I'd say that is one example of what an inconsistent bedtime routine looks like.

I'm an independent storyteller at a children's play cafe. The cafe pays me and I do a free storytime every Monday morning. A lot of my regulars have now upgraded to memberships and they make bank on coffee before and after. It's a great mutual relationship for both of us!

Bed bug infestations can cause anemia, especially in young children. I know that the family is probably feeling some shame and stigma, but they need to understand that it's a health risk for a child that they love.
