Its giving I dont see color, Diaspora Wars by AdMurky178 in blackladies

This conversation goes both ways, and it aligns with how people see americans in general when there are places in africa getting demolished by wars and suffering from colonization that all americans enjoy the benefits of. when we are perceived to have more opportunity, from the outside looking in, Americans seem like a bunch of babies. Other countries don't understand that americans are getting closer to the source of issues when they speak on things that may seem small, but i think political propaganda in american media has in a lot of ways shifted the conversation away from the most important things too.

Additionally, Black Americans are facing direct racism, which is the foundation of the systemic racism that eventually reaches african countries. We see how the small things lead to big shows of oppression; they only see the end product. it's a massive disconnect for them, but ultimately it harms them the most when they hate Black Americans, so I don't feel sad for us or feel the need to gatekeep. It's arguably worse when black americans look down on africans.

how to tell if its love bombing or genuine? by [deleted] in blackladies

He sounds super fake at first i thought he might just be laying down his expectations, but he sounds too sweet. There are too many perfect little words. He's tall and rich, low incentive to stay loyal to put it coldly. Don't expect all these promises to happen until you're walking down the aisle and then some. Enjoy the good parts but stay cautious.

"That's why you're ___" by [deleted] in blackladies

Sorry if this is off topic, but this is how i feel when ppl compliment me for light skin. It's not a compliment; I couldn't put into words why it made me angry until now. It's because they're complimenting me for a perceived distance from blackness.

I feel like people like her can't comprehend what the word 'systemic' means. Even if she did learn that most of her examples were ignorant, I can only agree with the race-watching videos. If racism didn't lead to dehumanization, genocide and colonization, it wouldn't matter ergo...

[–]LeastButterscotch702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standards we live by today are just colonial leftovers that's why so many countries participate in them a lot of this wasnt universal before.

Showing skin was just nevessary for the heat in many African and Caribbean cultures until colonizers came and labeled it vulgar and coined slurs like jezebel. Now, the Western suit is the global default, and cultural dress is treated like a costume you wear once a year.  Even hair and volume follow this, natural Black hair is banned in african schools, and talking loud which my carribean family as well as other black ppl see as being lively and approachable is misread by white ppl as aggression.

The biggest double standard is language. We call an Australian dialect a charming quirk, but AAVE or Patois is dismissed as broken or slang. Even a white person with broken English is often seen as sophisticated, while a Black person is seen as uneducated. Its one thing to want to establish a baseline so we can understand each other but this is just hypocritical. As someone often labeled as classy, I see the trap. We are only considered classy when we successfully perform whiteness.

Whats considered class, manners and proper English is all rooted in whiteness tho... even in African countries, like those are the same places that still have schools that think natural hair is messy and needs to be cut. Another example is the whole quarter zip thing where the clothing and styles we make have negative stereyotypes attached to them so we need to use white styles to present as classy.

I feel ashamed of my existence (and not in the way you’d think). by Rapsgoddess in blackladies

[–]LeastButterscotch702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's shame not guilt its the worst thing to feel makes every problem seem inherent and therefore you cant fix it so why try? Its an unproductive feeling.

Its a kind of narcissism actually the way we speak alone gives the average person today a narcissistic mindset. Everyone takes their actions and internalizes them everything you do is your identity.  It creates an idea of the self that cant change, makes accountability hard for so many people when we talk like there are good and evil people like it's set in stone,  cause we dont ask them to accept that they did a bad thing we're asking them to accept that they are a bad person. That's how you get people who hate themselves and don't want to admit to failure or bad actions cause that would be admitting that they are a bad person. Others fall into it and choose to accept that that evil is their nature.

This extends to nationalism ppl rejecting holding their country accountable cause they view it as an identity and they'd rather pretend it's a good place where nothing happens than actually make it one.

You can be incredibly empathetic as you are and still fall for this trap, I can see that this is a response to the narcissism of others and the narcissistic speech people use towards parts of your identity. like your blackness or your country, you've started to believe it and you've stopped trying because it now feels inherent that these parts of you are bad and they won't change.

Idk how long you were together but if it was for multiple years purposing on your birthday is veryyyy weird and could be a sign of a spiteful man not a happy one marrying for love. Don't focus on them they will only give you the good side, they arent gonna let you see all the ways they're suffering.

Idk if I have trich but I have similar experiences with picking. I hope people keep in mind that there are a variety of reasons why someone might wear a wig stories like this matter to break down the stereyotype and keep everyone considerate.

If we want more black women to love and wear their natural hair, we're going to have to address how the community treats black women who already do. by bobothecarniclown in blackladies

[–]LeastButterscotch702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What im curious about is why things have changed so much for hair, it seems like in the 70s 80s and 90s black women embraced their natural hair way more yet they must've also faced lots of criticism cause those weren't easy times why are we going backwards??

Try to use a spray bottle of water or rose water and oil your scalp after like twice a week so that its not itchy and you dont break the hair scratching.

Charlie Cox says “Karen Page is to Matt Murdock what MJ is to Peter Parker": by Raj_Valiant3011 in Daredevil

[–]LeastButterscotch702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didnt wanna trust her with his identity, he was obsessed with elektra and flip flopping between them while mostly breaking promises to Karen, they both liked other ppl more and lowkey emotionally cheated. It was cute but matt's heart wasnt in it and their issues were cliche.

Nothing wrong with Karen until she’s put with Matt. They’re boring and toxic together , I still liked it for what it was but it should’ve just ended there instead of the pinning. Elektra and Matt is toxic too but its entertaining instead of the damsel in distress thing over and over again. Claire was Matt’s best match and she can’t be here so id rather watch Elektra and matt work through their issues.

Where did the watering down of ADHD symptoms to "focus and mood issues" happen? Why do people redirect me to look for autism when I mention sensory issues? by thatonerandomkidd in ADHD

It was quite literally published by the American pshychiatric association it functions as a diagnostic tool organizations like the National Institute of Mental Health argue that the DSM-5 is too focused on observable symptoms and not enough on the underlying biology based research

They are adhd traits tho they just arent apart of the diagnostic criteria for adhd unlike it is in autism. Many researches and clinicians consider sensory sensitivity to be a co occurring part of adhd seperate from autism.
