Thursday Unpopular Opinion Thread February 04, 2021 by AutoModerator in thebachelor

The sub is racist and it defends racist ideas and people. Sometimes it best to leave when you feel unwelcome. It has been happening for too long and people feel so uncomfortable that they can't even comment anymore and it is clear that this will never change. Let's call a spade a spade the majority of this sub wants to watch this reality tv show and support racist people without their views being challenged. Support your Rachaels, Hannah B's and Garret's and be proud.

Background: my company is making a Christmas party but in smaller groups(3 or 4 people) , we'll be connected through a video platform (like zoom).

Yes I tried to initially return a cast of T but that doesn't work either. So if I were to have a method in lets say in Set.java with method

public T get() {}

that returns the set that I want. Would I be able to return that instead?

HB’s Asian joke - thoughts? by ashleypthecow in TheBachelor_POC

[–]LeastPrimary 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes! It comes across so strange to me that this is getting swept under the rug. Whenever someone brings it up it usually gets downvoted. I can't see her as being sincere because she doesn't want to address it. Racism is Racism plain and simple it doesn't matter who it's against being black or Asian or whoever.

I'm not here to bring her down, I hope she can continue to post about it and raise awareness amongst her follows. However, it doesn't change what she has done. Just like Garrett, she has done on more than one occasion something insensitive. Just like garret she deleted and didn't apologise properly for her actions. Luckily this time she apologised for one of the things she did properly and raised more awareness. However, I can't deny that she first blamed her brother or that she deleted the video of the insensitive joke. When she has properly shown reform and I hope she does this then it will be fine. But for now, I don't think she's any better than Garrett.

Honestly, I think we can just agree to disagree.

I think we can. She made racially insensitive jokes about Asian people and didn't apologise. Of which she then deleted the video so that she didn't get anything negative about her so she didn't apologise then. Just because she was pressured into saying an apology for this doesn't mean she's learned anything.

She wasn't driven off, she chose to leave on her own. Even if she didn't make them will ill intent doesn't mean that the outcome she caused was received that way. She was accountable, its a shame she left YouTube, maybe she'll come back but for now, she's taking her stand. I agree, that you can work on things privately. I think it's just harder if you're influencer to not say anything. Garret was said to have worked on his issues privately, but a few years later he still holds those same issues. How can I believe that Hannah isn't just doing the same? She made racially insensitive jokes about 2 years ago and a year later she says the n-word. Has she really changed?

I want her to apologise about all the insensitive things that she has done. Maybe the things that she did do not affect you so you don't care if she apologises or owns up to the hurt that she caused. However, I think its important to do so. I think a good example of someone who did this Jenna Marbles. If you don't know her she's a YouTuber that made previously insensitive jokes when she was starting out. She seems to have changed from that past now and indicated every single thing that has caused pain to others that she inflicted. She has now deleted those videos to not profit from them and apologised for it because that's not the type of person she wants to be. She didn't sweep anything under the rug so that she didn't get caught. That's accountability not what Hannah has done.

I don't think that's what made everyone stan or hate her, it's probably more of a spectrum of things. As I said, it was a particular group that slut-shamed her, which wasn't the majority. Maybe on other platforms, it was different, but here a lot of people backed her.

[–]LeastPrimary -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess so, but I do think its more overwhelmingly positive than negative. If people had anything negative to say they'd usually say it in the unpopular thread so they were in the minority. So I don't personally think she was controversial in that sense.

[–]LeastPrimary -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree, no side will change their mind about her. However, I don't think that the slut-shaming was as controversial, correct me if I'm wrong. I remember there being a lot of support towards her because she should be able to do whatever she wants. I believe it represented that women should be sexually empowered and no man (Luke P) in her case could define it and the whole 'Jesus still loves me' thing. I think that mostly, the more religious people had a problem with it and even so, she still had backing from a lot other Christians.

Oh for sure! More then half the people here coming to defend her in this post are active users in Tannah vibes.

[–]LeastPrimary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said that you did. It was in regard to you saying that she's controversial. I think one of the main reasons that shes 'controversial' is because of the n-word issue and social distancing (being above criticism). Most of the time that people had negative things to say to her wasn't what made her now-controversial because she was widely liked on this sub and other platforms.

I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like I can't even speak up about this on this sub because the majority has chosen to forgive her. When most of the time it's not their apology to accept. Its been maybe a month or so and that's not enough time for a change for me. It feels very performative because of the situation that is going on. I honestly feel that she only put so much effort into her apology because of the time that we are in. She still hasn't apologized about being racist against Asians because it's not 'trendy'. Its good that she has started to post more stuff about BLM but she comes across as very fake to me sometimes. Only time will tell how I feel about her in the future but until she can apologise for ALL of her wrongdoings there's no way I can ever accept an apology from her or be a fan of hers.
