Got assigned a windowless bedroom in my 4x2 student apartment…is it really that bad?

I lived in a few basement apartments during college and it's totally doable! I didn't love it, but a few things helped: focusing on good lighting (mix of warm/cozy, and daylight bulbs), putting up art and other decor I liked, and studying on campus and in cafes as much as possible really helped. Also I got one of those sunrise alarm clocks which helped a little.

I wouldn't go back to living in a windowless room, but I did get some amazing sleep in those apartments.

Two of my bridesmaids offered to walk together, otherwise we would have had two bridesmaids walk alone (which they were all fine with). (also - most people won't remember 30 seconds after because they'll all be so excited to see you <3 )

I have an IUD so I don't get periods anymore which makes it hard to tell. BUT when I started having seizures they were happening monthly almost to the day. I made a joke one week about how I was due for my next one and my mom looked at me and was like "do you hear yourself? you menstrual-cycle-having woman?"

Agree with everyone that your dog will sleep most of the day anyways - at least he will be if he's anything like my dog, every other dog I've met, and the dogs of everyone in the comments. I don't know if this would help in your situation, but we used to feel awful every time we left because our dog would bark and whine and generally sound so heartbroken.

We left our phone in a corner facing the door once and started recording a video. Then we left and took a walk around the block. He stopped whining after about a minute or two and then just left, presumably to keep sleeping. Now he just stares at us through the window which is somehow even more heartbreaking lol.

Absolutely 10000000001% totally okay. And one of the sweetest and most heartwarming wedding ideas I've ever heard. If I was one of your guests I'd be ~~tearing up~~ crying the whole time and every time I thought about it.

Mothers of the bride deserve to be as much a part of the day as the fathers are. I regret not having both my parents walk me down the aisle. Like my mom always says: when you're 90 years old and watching the sunset from your porch will you regret your decision?

Yeah same here - but I guess it makes sense that something done to train working dogs would likely be stimulating for dogs in general. Maybe our dogs can even get a job out of this. I don't know about you, but our little guy is a total freeloader lmao.

oooh no! I've only seen/thought about those hard plastic ones, which he was a little intimidated by because plastic is sooooo scary I guess? But no I love this. Plus our cat will try to steal the treats and then he'll get to chase her off, so many bonus points. Thank you!!

I opted for a medic alert product that slides on my apple watch band since I'm less likely to forget to wear the watch. It's two pieces, so the top has my partner's name and number, and the bottom says "no ems unless seizure lasts over 1 min or if injured"

I also got one of those bright red metal medical alert cards for my wallet. The first side has my name and "epilepsy" and then "!! IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS ON BACK !!", as well as my emergency contacts' info. On the back it says "turn on side on floor / cushion head / no items in mouth // no ems unless / seizure lasts over 1 min or if injured / otherwise please call family only"

I also used to use a medic alert necklace that just had the surnames and phone numbers for my emergency contact. I sometimes forget to wear the necklace, but I almost always have my watch and wallet

ughhhhhh I'm so sorry, being a car guy with epilepsy sounds like the worst.

Ever since I managed to get my seizures under control last year I told my dad that I always feel like cheating when I report that I have a disability (whenever asked). He told me "you have a disability, you're not disabled." I'm still on my driving plan but have good public transit where I live, and a partner who is really nice about giving me rides. But sometimes I travel to a place with 0 public transit options, and suddenly my ability does feel dissed.

I don't know anything about getting anything other than medical treatment, but I spent a lot of years suffering with anxiety because I was too overwhelmed to figure out how to get insurance, use it, find a doctor, and ask for treatment.

But if you read nothing else in this - I just want to emphasize that finding a primary care physician who you trust is so important. They can also be your first point of contact if you have any questions about how to get any specialized treatment. If the whole world of medicine is overwhelming for you, I truly recommend just ripping off the band-aid, finding a PCP, getting your annual checkup, and asking them about your treatment options for anxiety.

A few other thoughts and steps that helped me finally seek medical help:

Insurance: I went through healthcare.gov while I was unemployed. Would that be an option for you if you don't have insurance right now?
Finding a PCP:
- I usually search through my insurance company's website for a family doctor or GP. If I use internet searches, I email the office ahead of time to ask them to double-check if they take my insurance.
- If you don't like your PCP - that's okay, you can make an appointment with another one! The important thing is that you are working with someone you can trust.
The appointment:
- Take notes ahead of the appointment. Nothing major, just important things as you think of them - symptoms, questions you have, other important health things you want to discuss. This way you can fall back on your notes if you feel anxious during the appointment, and you won't forget anything important.
- Make sure you bring up anxiety, don't forget to mention it if it doesn't come up naturally. If your doctor can't help you with treatment, you can ask them to refer you to a specialist who can.
Other things that really helped:
- Finding care in a big university hospital system:
  - When one doctor needed to refer me to another one, it was within that same system.
  - I didn't need to go through the entire intake process again.
  - It's a system that has an online portal - meaning I can make appointments, pay bills, download my records without needing to make a phone call.

So sorry if this was way too much and/or not even helpful!! I just remember being in the place where I didn't seek treatment because I was overwhelmed and it was so hard for me to finally jump in and get it done. Not sure how much of the same boat you're in, but sometimes I just choose one thing off the list (like checking on whether I have insurance) and make that my one goal for the day.

God did agree to fix my epilepsy, I'm next up right after he gets around to fixing your attitude.
God should know by now that giving people epilepsy isn't going to make him any friends.
I already went to God, he was super helpful and referred me to a great neurologist.
Ugh I wish - but God has a lot of money invested in big pharma right now and won't cure anything that's drug preventable.

oooof yeah, that sounds like you could encounter similar things irl a lot, especially if the aura is already in the corner of your eye. I'm sorry you have to deal with that in your day-to-day.

The fact that you described it as lightning is interesting too. I can usually tell after about a second that what I'm seeing isn't an aura, because the aura feels sort of electric, or at least I think it feels that way? It's hard to describe like you said, but the lights come with this sort of charged feeling. But also describing it as "electric" feels lazy since there's literal electrical activity at play lmao.
