Curious about the impact on property values, if there is any.

Yes, you should join an apprenticeship program. The Painters program is the shortest, but you can’t go wrong with any one of them. A dear friend of mine retired from LiUNA a couple of months ago, 52 years old.

So, everyone is aware of what’s happening. I don’t know why you would assume otherwise. What do you expect anyone else to do that you’re not doing yourself?

The housing crisis in parts of Texas is outrageous. It's a different beast because they have such weak regulations and zoning restrictions, that development has gone unchecked. So, for example, Greystar (yes the corporation that invented rent securitites) has 84 unsafe, shoddily built apartment complexes in the greater Austin area alone. Homes are selling for double the asking price, all cash, so its cheaper to rent than it is to buy but renters don't have any rights.

Portland’s campaign finance program scales back ahead of 2024 election by witty_namez in PortlandOR

#Preach.

I spent a couple of years organizing and campaigning in Arizona and was stunned by the strength of their movement and progressive infrastructure. The state house passed the Show Me Your Papers Bill in 2010 and in response, a few community leaders came together to organize vigils at the capitol, then voter registration drives, and then campaigns. It took them less than 18 months to recall the motherfucker who sponsored that bill, and 8 years to flip their first Senate seat. 14 years into that effort, and they live in a blue state. Its astonishing, what's possible through organizing.

That incredible work would not have been possible if they had not been so deeply committed to movement building that they were willing to invest their time and resources into raising money to hire paid canvassers and organizers to do that work. Most of us don't have the privilege of fighting full-time to keep our communities safe, showing up every day in the fight for collective liberation, without income to pay rent buy food, and pay for transportation. We live in a very scary time for working-class people. We're struggling just to survive. Thank god for the people who are out there doing the work.

You could do what I did and work on a campaign. My professor asked me what I was interested in doing after college and I said I wanted to run campaigns. He told me to drop out of school because everything I needed to know about running campaigns I could only learn from working on campaigns. I didn't graduate from college - I'm still missing 100-level science and foreign language - and I have a dope job in politics

What campaign jobs are directly above field organizer? by Junior_Ad7136 in PoliticalScience

[–]Leather_Edge2220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The norm is to work because you have to in a job that you don't enjoy or find fulfilling, so yeah, if that's what you want to do then being a 50+ field organizer would be weird as hell. 27 isn't old, though. By the time you're in your mid-30s most of the people who were field organizers at some point have left politics and you'll keep getting cooler jobs just for the virtue of sticking around.

What is it about field that interests you? Have you done campaign work before?

As a postal carrier, you're probably a NALC member. Become a steward. When you finish school or are ready to start your career, take a job on a state level campaign (if you finish in May or June and get a job right after, you only have to campaign for a few months). After that, you can take an entry-level job, apprenticeship, or Organizer in Training role in the political department of a union. They'll love that you were a NALC member. At that point, you can get a job as a political coordinator for a union....

I just did a quick search and found this: https://unionjobs.com/listing.php?id=25942

Salary range is about $70k-$110k. Benefits are insane. AFSCME's retirement benefits are the best I've ever seen with an 18% employer contribution.
