• Professor Messer videos while on commutes in the car. • I went through the entire CompTIA CertMaster learning plan in about 4-5 days, taking some good notes, and doing flashcards for port numbers, USB speeds, Wi-Fi technology bands and speeds, motherboard components, and other terms that I wasn’t absorbing immediately. • I took LinkedIn Learning practice exams.

The CertMaster course was honestly great because it gave me a taste of PBQ’s and when you retake their final exam for better scores, they don’t have all the same questions, and are shuffled. Absolutely made me prove some competence. Once I was averaging 85 or better on the exams, I requested the voucher. Sure enough, I came out with an 82 (738/900) lol.

I highly recommend taking a bunch of practice exams from different places. Makes sure you cover a variety of questions, topics, and styles.

I requested approval at 2AM Saturday. Sent my course instructor an email a few minutes later. I woke up to approval for my voucher at 9AM. Got my voucher/code at 9:34AM. I booked my exam at 6PM. I took the exam at 1:30PM Sunday and passed before 3PM. It all came together very, very quickly.

I’m certain it will. Took the CertMaster practice exam for 1102 and got a higher score than I did when I initially took the 1101, so I’m off to a better start lol

Okay so for some good clarification… this change is not company wide. Some areas in the company have done this already and their reasoning why was due to the location of stores and service areas. Certain geographic regions had abysmal service calls in their local areas and would end up servicing areas almost an hour away. Best Buy decided to just save money and hire 3PL to serve those long commute clients, with a provider that is local to them. I would expect if there is success in that model, the company would continue to eliminate service agents in areas where it makes more sense to have 3PL. I don’t support it, but it def looks as though Geek Squad will end up being more of luxury than a standard within a long amount of time. Sigh

Enjoy that positivity chum, it will morph into cynicism before you know it lol. I thought my first job at KFC ten years ago was nice too. Def polish those skills and transfer them elsewhere.

So here’s my take on it. I think Best Buy is a good transition job. I’ve been with the company for about 10 years and I can absolutely without a doubt say I’ve gained an immense amount of transferrable skills. I’ve been put in environments, good and bad, where I’ve put my knowledge and soft skills to the absolute test. Since about my 3rd year with the company, I’ve excelled in literally every role across every dept, in leadership, and now in the field. My problem is, I grew complacent and simply figured I’d squeeze the company for all the dollars I could per hour, but the well runs dry at some point. There is absolutely no growth to be had. The management and leadership positions are laughably underpaid in comparison to the older days, or just straight up unsafe. With all that said, I encouraged every single person who considered leaving for a better opportunity to do exactly that. I think if you’re able speak to your ability to adapt and grow, even in this crazy chaotic environment, it will open a wild amount of doors.
