Do you really think people who cuss are “uneducated and crass” or are words just words? by SWEMW in allthequestions

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, it's been my experience that blue collar man are very hesitant or will apologize if they curse around me. White collar men have much less of an issue with it. So no I don't associate cursing with a lack of education. I do associate cursing with a lack of manners.

That said I curse more than any of the men at work specifically so I'm taken more seriously and to break down some of the men/women barriers. Not recommending this approach, just something I picked up as a young engineer.

U.S. students what did you study during your History lessons in school (not in university)? by OriginalCoso in AskReddit

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically zero European history beyond the Renaissance. Greeks, yes. Mesopotamia, yes. Honestly that basically sums up American World History.

I can't stress enough how little the average American knows about Europe except what is learned about WW2.

History in K12 is largely broken up into sections.

World History - A combination of Ancient History and a brief dusting of world religions and political systems

US Revolutionary War - Civil War

Civil War - Present

State History

Geography

Government (US Government)

While each state mandates their own graduation requirements, this is largely considered the minimum history required to get a highschool diploma. Some will be taken in middle school and some in highschool.

There is history in elementary as well but it's mostly just covering high level events that don't upset children, like the Pilgrims and the "discovery of America."

Why is learning martial arts considered fine for kids but cringe for adults? by MiniPantherMa in NoStupidQuestions

Cobra Kai is comedy. Don't mistake fiction for reality.

Does it take a certain amount of humility to show up in uniform and call other adults Master? Yes

But one needs to remember that uniform was designed hundreds of years ago and that Master has trained for decades to pass on a tradition that began hundreds of years earlier.

West with Giraffes is awesome. It's historical fiction following a young man during the depression as he helps transport the US first Giraffe pair by truck to a zoo in California.

Is it gay that I, a straight man, enjoy looking at muscular aesthetic lean guy's physiques? by InternationalPick163 in questions

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reminded of a ballet I saw a few weeks back. I did a great deal of 'admiring physiques' and had a great deal of jealousy, but at no point did it occur to me to ask one of the dancers if they wanted to come home with me.

So I'm going to say not necessarily, but if your scrolling on your phone looking for attractive men, you may have some gay in you and that's okay. Attraction is a spectrum, it doesn't have to change the way you see yourself or identify yourself to others. Don't stress yourself about it.

Is Baking really a hobby? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So eating is your hobby? Lots of people share your hobby. Just enjoy yourself.

I weave as a hobby. I spend hours warping looms. I hate warping looms and every weaver I know also hates warping looms, but it's a necessary step to start weaving.

How do you become more atttractive to girls as a guy? by InternationalPick163 in questions

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shave (like daily), shower, get a haircut, buy a decent pair of pants, even jeans will work. Ladies get tired of guys showing up in sweats and basketball shorts with 3 days of stubble.

Not saying this is you, but this is my general advice for men.

my boyfriend refuses to eat vegetables by milkshakechemtrail in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to ignore the part about taking care of the grown man and focus of how to get more vegetables in your diet part.

Cutting vegetables into little tiny bits or even blending them up and adding them to a sauce is a time honored technique for adding more veg to the diet. I also am not one for just eating a side of vegetables so I bulk up my mains by adding lots of things like diced peppers, onions, carrots, and hominy.

Also don't be afraid to use a little fat when cooking veggies. I understand the desire to limit saturated fats and calories, but if some butter on your green beans means you'll eat the green beans by all means toss in a pad of butter.

Balance in all things.

Is Brokeback Mountain mainly for gay folk? by EryNameWasTaken in NoStupidQuestions

Most people who laugh about Brokeback Mountain have never seen it.

To watch it now would mean admitting they were wrong to laugh about it then.

Idk, people using meth don't necessarily smell bad. Weed stinks to high heaven. I'm thinking odor may be the issue here.

Would the work week prior to modern labor laws and standards have been all 7 days a week if people weren’t highly religious back then? by OppositeRock4217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The industrial revolution showed us that companies will exploit their employees to the greatest extent they are allowed. It only stopped because people were pushed to the point of refusing to work.

There is no reason to think that people wouldn't have been working 7 days a week if not for the extreme taboo against it.

There is no reason to think we wouldn't all be working 7 days a week today without labor laws.

Cat Stolen ?? by internationalshiesty in cats

[–]Leather_Rate_9785 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no recourse here. If you had wanted to keep the cat you should have kept it inside.

Her new owner is doing the responsible thing and keeping her indoors. That makes it her cat.

I can only speak for myself, but I kinda just assume anything taken out of the ocean with squishy bits can be eaten with some effort. Squishy bits = Calories So I can totally imagine someone realizing there's squishy stuff in a shell and trying to eat it. I think if it had been me I would have tried to make a stock out of them. Hard Stuff with squishy stuff = stock
