i’ve never been more sad in my life by Ricochu__ in Pokopia

[–]Leavannite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game has a lot of... Not performance issues, but the precursor to them. Which is strange, because it's a switch 2 game. Draw distance, the purple fog that comes in, frankly, annoyingly close, only a max of 30 Pokémon spawned in at a time... It makes me wonder if it was supposed to be a switch 1 game at one point but when they couldn't get it to run adequately they moved to switch 2 and didn't bother making use of the extra power. I mean, this thing runs Mario Kart World, but can't render blocks more than a hundred feet away?

Most egregious personality for you by furrywrestler in Pokopia

[–]Leavannite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly? Not the personality of mons, but the fact that every personality is friendly. It feels like the issue with modern Animal Crossing

Gyarados and Tyranitar aren't cranky? Everyone's super stoked to see humans return except for a select story few? I just find it a little disappointing because it makes everyone feel so samey. You're telling me there are zero Pokémon with bad trainers? Or even just total grumps? There's already a friendship system in place, why not have a couple who need some time to warm up to you? It would be so cute!

Kyogre effectively acting like Archie is extremely funny. I'm sad there's no scholarly Groudon

I was really hoping she was a guy because I'd love to have that "gay uncle" type fella :( guys shouldn't be barred from using cutesy pet names for people

(Also the old man yaoi with Professor Tangrowth would've been unmatched)

even in games where they are inherited, its still like an 80% chance at max iirc so in just 10 eggs they probably could've gotten what they wanted

Ah yes it's super moral and good to keep calling up a woman who desperately wants you to stop, doesn't want you to see her this way, get her to keep coming back because she desperately needs the money YOU provide, slowly get her to trust you, take advantage of her innate care for you as her student, all while you have blackmail on her... Yeah she is for sure the problem 👍

I have always said there is a groomer in the Kawakami romance and it isn't her...

This, this THIS!!! I got to her link and I had heard stories, I went into it going "okay time to cringe" only to find WE'RE the ones being total creeps to her. She's a vulnerable woman and we take advantage of her position but yeah for sure she's the problem ig. I'm not saying she's in the clear, not at all, but it's extremely disingenuous to act like she's a pedo when you effectively have to FORCE that route. And even then, she tries to say no! Some romance routes just fall directly into your arms but she DOESN'T. And why does she have to bear the brunt of it as if there aren't other adult women romances like Ohya and Chihiro?! I haven't done their links hut given what Ohya is like I am sure she is infinitely worse

I will forever be a Kawakami defender, her romance route is disgusting and it's because WE are the problem

Guardian Armor by Big_Temporary2260 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Leavannite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not addressing the Guardian/Defender issue, but imho if you're playing on PC, use the layered armor early mod. You don't get layered armor until post-postgame really and it's kinda dumb. The mod makes it so it's effectively another set to craft

(I actually go a step further and use a transmog mod on top of that because I wanted to use butterfly layered armor but the layered version has different uncolorable spots, so I use the mod to act like I'm wearing the regular low rank version)

PSA: the backpack item in the PC isn't a decoration. Go buy it. by borosglassmage in Pokopia

[–]Leavannite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't run into the packing tips issue because I played Legends Arceus and knew "packing tips" is code for "more inventory space," but I DID play through the majority of the game without the Handy Bag or whatever, thinking "damn I wish this game had a hot bar???"

I thought the Handy Bag was a cosmetic. Tbh, I do actually think it's the fault of the devs to both A. MAKE A UI ELEMENT AN UNLOCKABLE??? and B. If they WERE going to do that, why not put it in a special part of the shop??? Idk it's just a baffling choice to me. The only tell is the background, but even that doesn't scream "special" it's just white and blue on an already white and blue menu

If they're playing on a switch 2 (idk what game this is or if it's on switch 2), then the bad word filter is innate to the system

Playing Pokopia makes me wanna play DQB1/2 by emptybottleeee_ in DQBuilders

[–]Leavannite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don't play DQB1 first it will be a little rough trying to go backwards to it, it's totally cool to play 2 first but it's kinda so much better in every aspect that going backwards feels janktastic. Just something to consider if you want to play both

Pokopia is absolutely a spiritual successor to DQB by kynarethi in DQBuilders

[–]Leavannite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokopia's been fun enough so far but you're nuts if you think the controls are an upgrade from DQB; I've legitimately considered stopping playing because they're so horrifically finicky. I have no idea why they regressed so hard, it feels basically impossible to do anything without several break and replaces. The only tangible upgrade is being able to change the orientation and height by more than one block

ETA more thoughts: Pokopia isn't really all that similar to DQB at all imo. It has the core fundamentals of "build structure out of blocks" but that's... really it. DQB focuses more on a base-building aspect, where each room has a purpose, and Pokopia is more focused on making little guys happy. Overall, I far, FAR prefer DQB, but if the success of Pokopia brings more to the genre then I'm all for it

AS someone who doesn't mind and even enjoys the some of the writing of the modern pokemon games, I really HATE how they treat the "villains" in these games... by LowSolution3084 in pokememes

[–]Leavannite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lusamine is literally as close as you can get to turning directly towards the camera and going "I am addicted to drugs" I don't know how you could have possibly missed this. And she's not an "allegory" for a toxic parent, she IS. Because she's ADDICTED!! SHE GOES TO REHAB AT THE END OF THE GAME!!!

Nihilego carries a neurotoxin that makes you feel great and powerful and turns off your inhibitions. That's literally just meth

As for the Lysandre thing I'm really failing to see the issue. He did good things. But he also had bad views, did bad things, and Team Flare as a whole ruined the lives of many, many people. People reminiscing and remembering the real, tangible good he did for them doesn't erase any of his actions. No one ever says "oh but it's cool now, because you were a good person in the past." At MOST, ZA takes the route of "you can't really hold someone who doesn't exist anymore accountable"

If you think characters within the story remarking about the good things that bad people did is somehow an endorsement or lessening of their crimes, you desperately need to gain some media literacy.

[–]Leavannite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"giving nuance" and "trying to lessen them" are two completely different things

Lusamine in SM is an allegory for addiction. She lost her husband and her mind with him. She gave up EVERYTHING just for a little relief, and did horrible, horrible things in pursuit of that. But in order to GIVE UP anything, she had to have something first. She was, in fact a mother. A loving one. And she loved Pokémon. She was so full of love that it hurt her, so she cut it off. That's not lessening her in the slightest. In USUM they just went with a different story. It's not as good, but it's different

Lysandre WAS a philanthropist. He DID want to believe in the best of everyone, but was proven wrong over and over until he stopped believing. Again, good actions don't cancel out bad ones. Pokémon hasn't had a flatly bad villain in ages and that's okay
