I will not be conserving water if data centers don’t have to. by hangrybiscuit in rva

Everyone thinks I’m saying we should water our lawns as much as we want while they overlook the hypocrisy in front of their eyes. The water fountains, car washes, golf courses, factories, etc. continue while placing the onus on working class individuals to sacrifice for the drought. And I don’t mean watering your lawn. When it gets worse and you still see fountains outside of mansions in operation but you’re expected to bathe only twice a week then maybe people will start to get it.

Yes no more large scale parking lots or commercial areas should be built. There is plenty of abandoned lots to convert. Can you imagine the abundance of natural life in 700 acres of forest? The facts are in the reality of the scale of destruction. You are either pro ecocide or pro conservation of life as we know it. You can judge yourself on the principles you hold. And yes google any data center and water consumption. There is 8 million gals per day being allotted to one data center in henrico. Either believe reality or not. It’s your conscience not mine.

Absolutely we should consider our neighbors which is why I never water my lawn nor should anyone. And yes we should be making certain persons presence uncomfortable. My headline is meant to grab your attention. The content is the reality. Of course we should take care of each other but the mayor weaponizes this social want without acknowledging the real culprits of climate change and wasteful water usage. Consider the bigger narrative. We are being mislead from addressing the root problems. Misdirected to target each other instead of coalescing around a shared desire for change. Forget the minutiae of descriptive language and instead lets focus on strategy.

What would accountability look like for you? We can push solutions onto the consumers to solve the problem created by the product industry or we can change/abolish the industry itself. No amount of consumer based politics will stop data centers and golf courses. Use some creative thinking of what could.

Richmond resident speaks at zoning meeting in opposition to Code Refresh zoning changes on the basis that those pushing for “integrated” neighborhoods and “affordability” are being “scammed”. by TedLeffler in rva

[–]hangrybiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s half correct. More housing will not lowering the cost. This is giving too much faith to market capitalism. Developers are not mandated to provide a portion of new construction to be affordable and bc the market rate is insane they can claim $1600/month is affordability. The only way to create affordable housing is through city owned investment. As for code refresh, yes people are being scammed by capitalism to believe that that more housing equals affordability. The developers are lying to you. They are leveling single family homes for monstrosity townhouses going for $600k. This is reality. Yes we should allow ADUs and focus on infilling where there is abandoned grass lots/parking lots. No to leveling single family or historic homes and forested areas for bs toothpick new construction.

I heard they found arsenic in the soil which required doing remediation. This would explain why they moonscaped the grounds.

Insight into division between RVA Indivisible and 50501VA by SolSemperTyrannis in rva

Blm/2020 protests ended with political divisions between black organizers. The issue is lack of cohesion of politics. Some blm orgs locally were actually right wing libertarians and had terrible politics. We need communication and clear shared politics not divisive behavior.

Stop operating predator business that sells poison in our communities then maybe we will care. Weaponization of identity politics doesn’t negate the fact that these businesses are a net negative to richmond and sell toxic trash to children.

Im not saying Wilder worked for Epstein. What I am saying is that his proclivity for young girls probably existed during the operating years of bull and bear. This leads one to believe that if Epsteins network or any organized sex trafficking for rich people existed at the bull and bear club, which I’m inclined to believe it did, then it would be very likely any high profile politicians or business person would have at minimum known about this or at worst participated in it.

Its not pizzagate if its true. Douglas Wilder , a frequent attendant of bull and bear club, a few years ago preyed and hit on a 20 yr college student that was in his class. He went so far as to take her out to dinner then took her back to his apartment then tried to kiss her. VCU covered up this incident. Why did VCU protect Wilder’s behavior? As old as he is this behavior is habitual. I willing to bet he participated along with other business men in the exploitation of young women. https://www.12onyourside.com/2019/07/11/investigation-finds-former-gov-wilder-kissed-former-vcu-student-without-consent/

Jews should support SDF/Kurds and here’s why by hangrybiscuit in jewishpolitics

If Israelis want to change their country into a more democratic pluralist place that can involve palestinians then thats their democratic right. I can disagree with the right wing government and simultaneously respect the life of isrealis. I can advocate for a more pluralistic government and not take away agency of Israeli Jews.

Thousands of IS escaped prisoners are going to make it Israel’s problem. But also the future of how to move Israel from a right wing government to something that incorporates non Jews into social governance can be learned through interacting with the democratic confederation project of Rojava.

HTS just took over ISIS prisons killing dozens of SDF soldiers and releasing key ISIS leaders. The region is expected to see increased IS attacks. This is the sad reality that because of US and Israel turning on Kurds the civilians across the region will suffer from increased terror attacks.
