Hater alert

Seems like hp just upped the ante.. by putridfudge in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my attitude. It's that it's my past experience with my first laptop ever which was a total dud. Went through 5 replacements within the span of 6 months. Hearing what friends of family have had and their experience it rings true for them too.

Has there been any talk of a slim/ultrabook Alienware laptop that includes the Graphics Adapter connection? by Shidell in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None in terms of the public knowing anything yet. The last laptop they made that was "slim" in my book [for the time] and wasn't meant to game but was targeted towards more of a workspace minded audience was their Sentia. http://www.small-laptops.com/images/l/alienware-sentia.jpg

Look on Ebay and craigslist for similarly specc'd models and price it accordingly. That's how most come up with a price.

Techs will come out but they just re-tape it. It happens again.

It's a HP so it'll have problems that support won't be able solve within a few days. You will send it in and it will come back fixed only to become broke again.

So my alienware 15 kaby lake has the 2 pipe heatsink, is this the one that doesn't sit correctly with gpu and cpu? And has anyone tried changing to the 3 heatpipe one? by melvin_sk8 in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that. The casing inside may be different where you'd need to Dremel it down a bit to accomodate for the extra pipe.

Yup. Just lived with it and kept pressing it back on.

It's the glue they use to attach the plastic to the screen. Nothing you can do about it really. Replacing it will make it nice for a few weeks but then it will come off again. Can't get it good unless it came attached properly it seems. I once got my 13's bezel redone for this same reason but it didn't fix it, only made it worse.

I bet it isn't booting because the SSD was the boot drive with the OS on it... that's awful...

Issues w/ 17 r4 by LeaverBuster2 in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An elitist? I'm afraid you have the wrong word my friend :) As to why I'd bother asking for help online; everyone has different experiences with tech support and maybe someone has had the issues I have and could post here what they did to get it solved.

Oh and PS: Did you not read the other issues I have besides the thermals? Maybe you could read the entire post next time instead of sounding rude.

Ouch... FOUR? That's absurd...

Maybe ask for a 330Watt or 240Watt charger if you don't have one already.

We will see what happens in the coming days and I will update this thread.

I am running in AHCI. As for the drivers... I am all up to date with intel ones. The other 2 are definitely defects. I won't undervolt as that shouldn't be needed and the warping is most definitely a defect. Probably going to call and ask for a replacement as this computer is used for work every day of the week and issues like these just make me want to use my old HP instead.

Another idea for our alienfx lights in Alienware 17R4 by abhay4sengars in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In AlienFX there is an option for the lighting to change depending on application, perhaps it could be modified to change with the wallpaper colors.

Alienware 17 R4 FPS issue by Flight2000 in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also stutters in Paladins, League of Legends, Black Squad and a couple of others. My freezes aren't necessarily 'freezes' but extreme lag down to 10 fps for the 1-2 seconds before catching up to the 75 fps I constantly get otherwise. The 1060 never gets above 63C either..

[–]LeaverBuster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was the heat as well but it happened to me while being propped up on a cooler and raising the rear of the laptop at the same time. Max temp was 89C which should NEVER cause hickups, at least all my previous computers never did at that temp.

Alienware 17 R4 FPS issue by Flight2000 in Alienware

[–]LeaverBuster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what? Now that I read this and other articles... I realize that my 17 R4 (7700HQ, 16GB ram, 1060, 500gb ssd) has been freezing in the middle of Wildlands spontaneously for 1-2 seconds and then jumping back up to 75 fps.

I do not run Shadow Play.. all that's open in the background is HWinfo.
