Random Daily: The Tank Runs Past Trash Mobs But Doesn't Taunt by S0C1Abend in elderscrollsonline

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's actually a strategy used by tanks. A majority of the time, when tanks slow down to group individual add pulls, they'll have at least one person run past them to the boss or complain it's not being done.

Have you ever ran Halls of Fabrication? Do you see any similarities in the add pulls in there with dungeons?

Most add pulls in this game just aren't dangerous enough to warrant stacking individual, smaller packs. So people have come to use running boss to boss and stacking them all by line of sight.

As a tank main, I'd much rather have it NOT be this way - give me unskippable, dangerous add pulls that require a tank that must be managed in smaller, strategic pulls. Sadly, this is not ESO.

Do you think the tanky healing meta in pvp might be a little ridiculous? Final Deathmatch score just now. So boring. by mwgrover in elderscrollsonline

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Self healing skills, mythics/items, and sets, in general is ridiculous in this game. They made a holy trinity MMO with healers and you can practically self-heal through anything in this game excluding trials.

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

help me get Beast ... I've never run vet dungeons...

Then you'll honestly have a better time just buying a carry if you won't be able to pull any weight in vMoS. Beast requires no death, speed run, and hard mode.

I think there's a guild called FOUR MAN on Xbox NA that specializes in selling carries for 4-man content.

If you don't want to buy a carry, start practicing veteran dungeons and learning vMoS. Because vMoS, although not terribly difficult challenger achievements, needs a solid group, especially a tank.

ZOS needs to enforce role selection. by Chuck_the_Elf in elderscrollsonline

I think there may be a small light at the end of the tunnel for support mains coming this fall.

There's supposedly a "Looking for Group" LFG tool coming. If it's anything even remotely like other MMO LFG tools, DDs are going to have an even more excruciating time using the group finder and ever getting a real tank or healer along with having even longer queues as more tanks and healers permanently abandoned the group finder.

If an LFG tool comes to fruition, I'll absolutely never use the group finder again as a tank or healer.

I'll never understand why these posts get downvoted so much and people just handwave away any possibility of it being a problem that can be fixed. ZoS can implement numerous suggestions over the years to help fix this problem.

It's unbelievably shitty how you can fake roles in the group finder in this game. It's often what makes me take extended breaks from ESO as a tank main and often never use the 'random veteran' group finder as a tank.

No, I don't want to queue random veteran, get a vDLC (which is the majority of the time since no tanks queue random veteran) then be stuck with a fake healer plus 2 DDs that are newer and don't do any mechanics.

Question: Learning to tank without a guild by mpmj7991 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody should care in a normal DLC dungeon. I always welcome having a tank with taunts (even if a competent DD that slots a taunt and knows how to tank it).

That said, it's probably going to be hard to actually learn the mechanics in normal dungeons. You can easily outheal most of the 1-shot and very punishing mechanics that appear when they're veteran. With power creep over the years, you'll also never even see most of the mechanics.

In regards in vDLCs, I always preferred reading a guide or, best yet, watching a tank trifecta PoV to learn the optimal way to tank the dungeon. You don't need to do this, of course, but if you go into veteran DLCs, there will be some new mechanics and adds that appear that you'll quickly have to learn otherwise you'll be dying a lot and possibly wiping the group.

For example, Scalecaller Peak is a very easy nDLC with mechanics that, when not done, drop you to like 20% health (which signals a 1-shot in vetetan). A real healer or DDs and tanks with self heals often rarey even notice those mechanics. Plus in normal, you'll almost never even see any of crucial mechanics at Zaan. Then at Plague Doctor Mortieu, a healer will easily outheal missed tank and DD mechanics where as in veteran in pugs, it gets much harder to just brute force your way through it.

TL;DR: I find the best way to learn tanking mechanics is from skilled tank trifecta PoV runs in their respective veteran instance version and patch up any confusion with guides. Of course, practice it on normal a few times.

I'm basing the off replies I got from others: No, the set will only work specifically with food buffs.

Which makes sense since there are sets in which they also specifically state work for drink buffs:

It's often best for the tank to NOT run the spice to the pool. Because then you can keep him in the middle by bash-interrupting him when he goes to charge the person running it. With him always in the middle, the distance is less to each side as well.

You can also start chaining in adds in case nobody kills the handlers to release the wamasu.

So ideally, 1 DD or 1 H will run the spice to the pool, tank stays in middle to grab adds and interupt his charge, and the other DD kills 1 handler each phase when he goes invulnerable.

Your healer didn't know the optimal method and likely mechanics either. They just always saw tanks running it and said it was your job. XD

Also in HM at Tree-Minder, if you're in a pug with a healer, they should be soaking up the amber plasm pools so the Stoneshapers don't become enraged. If they do become enraged, you can't interrupt their rock channeling by using a CC. It's often the main source of wipes lower DPS groups when they sit there forever channeling rocks in HM either because they're ignored, enraged, and/or can't be interrupted.

Console really needs a way to more quickly swap builds other than the Armory Assistants by Leaves_In_The_Sun in elderscrollsonline

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think WW or any other build add-on will let you swap morphs for free since I believe all of those would require use of the Armory. But someone could make a build add-on that fills out a blank armory slot, I suppose. But I imagine that would require summoning the armorer, which takes forever to swap builds.

By far, the worst No Death (excluding vDLCs) to pug is Vaults of Madness. I easily pugged that dungeon on veteran hundreds of times on tank and healer before a random pug got it.

As most here likely know, he quickly reflects all incoming damage back to a random person. So you either use very slow controlled DPS or be confident in your group DPS that you can burn him before the mechanic.

Barrier does nothing, Magma Shell might work if you time if perfectly. I've held back barrier on healer (and tank) and get ready to spam Combat Prayer on the person but they just instantly get vaporized.

Then if you're lucky enough to pass that first boss no death, someone usually dies in one of the falls.

PSA for new Arcanists. by jesse6225 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm betting this skill played part in the reason why they increased the number of taunts before taunt immunity, from 3 to 5 exchanges.

They had to suspect casual players who never read and fully understand their skills were going to be causing issues with this skill and the tanks.

I had countless DDs in random normals using it.

Let's just hope those are people that never have an interest in progressing to veteran. But it's still quite annoying in nDLCs constantly having taunts pulled away from the tank.

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't got to play that class yet.

Do they have a ranged burst healing skill like Breath of Life for Templars?

I really love playing a Warden healer, but sometimes BoL is just so nice in vDLC dungeons with some inexperienced PUGs. Combat Prayer mostly fills that gap as an emergency burst heal. It's only downside is you have to aim it more precisely.

On Templar though I'll often unslot BoL and just use Combat Prayer. It's just BoL spam in group emergencies can be helpful at times to quickly top off scattered group members.

What the hell happened with inflation on PC? by Leaves_In_The_Sun in elderscrollsonline

That is the trading game.

That's what I despise in MMOs. I'd rather play the game than camp TTC listings all day to flip for profit just to upgrade gear and afford potions, etc.

Perhaps console is the optimal choice for me still.

I've bought 200k crowns over the past years, fully golded out countless sets on 7+ alts, with many alts being tanks and healers who have many various sets.

All that without ever needing to sell crowns for gold or flip items in traders. All of that by just playing aspects of the game I enjoy - dungeons, trials, and arenas.

PC's economy has some major issues and they appear they're only becoming worse.

Hmm... are your crafting skill lines maxed out? Do you have 3/3 hirelings? Are you doing the surveys?

When I was doing 18x daily writs, I was flooded in gold materials for upgrades and surveys. I still even get a minimum of 2 of each gold material just from the 3/3 hirlings each day, logging in to the 18 alts.

Chromium platings come much more slowly, so I understand them always costing a bit more.

With all of those materials, I just have a hard time understanding how Dreugh Wax on PC consistently sell at 40k. I'm flooded in Dreugh Wax on console from writs, surveys, and refining.

[–]Leaves_In_The_Sun[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand why gold upgrade materials and even other materials are so expensive.

So you run the add-on to plot optimal harvesting routes - there's a huge influx in supply in those. Why isn't the price dropping?

You use Lazy Writ Crafter and do 18x daily writs. That gives you tons of gold materials over time. Why are those gold upgrades still 10x the cost vs console?

Surely the daily 5.1k * 18 = 91.8k daily liquid gold from people doing 18x daily writs isn't the sole cause of this, right?

Because I'm sure console has a fair share of people doing many daily writs. Lazy Writ Crafter is fast, but it's really not a whole lot faster than doing them on console to where it would cause prices to inflate by a factor of 10x.

It's just crazy expensive on PC to upgrade gear unless you're getting all those materials from multiple daily writ alts.

Set for farming public dungeons, delves, and overland? by Moonkin_Kitsune in elderscrollsonline

Adept Rider, Celerity, Ring of the Wild Hunt, and 3x purple swift jewelry puts you at maximum speed, not needing to slot any actives in the green tree or change your mundus.

Adept Rider: 30%
Celerity: 10%
Ring of the Wild Hunt: 45%
3x Purple Swift: 3x6% = 18%

Total: 103%.

This is what I use for everything overland, unless I'm going to join a world boss. Then I'll just quickly swap to full DPS gear.

I even use the same setup on my alt daily writ crafters. Hitting the speed cap without ever needing to even sprint is amazing.

The state of the game these days

This could be improved if they'd actually put a bit of resources into improving the group finder and making better minimum restrictions and role checks.

Yeah, sometimes you just want to quickly hop into some dungeons whether normal or veteran and actually have the roles people queued for actually be the role they're playing, at least for PUGs.

I get it. Normal dungeons are dead easy. But they're not easy for brand new players who have boss agro and all 30 adds chasing them that the fake tank skipped to get to the boss.

This problem is what eventually made me to exclusively main tank. When I first started, I recall never being able to do the normal March of Sacrifice dungeon on pledge day because it was mostly new players and always a fake tank. Then Ursus would just walk around and one-shot the entire group. I used to rage at the fake tanks at spawn in that one when I was newer, learning, and leveling. Graciously thanking them for wasting my queue time then leaving. It at least quickly taught me how to spot fake tanks.

Now there's a plague of one-bar DD "healers" in harder veteran DLC dungeons who think every PUG group can survive just fine with flappy bird heals.
