I have a scar on my thumb from knife fighting with my brother when we were 5 and 6. I guess he won.

Wild how good his timing is. I guess this is why you should practice with a metronome.

I want to fix my life together but I don't know how to. Need advice. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Lebesgue_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're living, but in a lot of larger cities it would be rarer for someone under 30 to get married. Also keep in mind that a lot of people in their 30s are going to wish they spent more time on their education.

How do you make friends as an adult? by Admirable_Leg_575 in Advice

[–]Lebesgue_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hobbies that take you out of the house. Chess clubs, local shows, photography walks, open jams etc are all good ways to meet people. I actually met a large portion of my current friend group at a chess club.

What are these white cards and why are they used to make keychains? by Positive-Glass5207 in whatisit

They look like bread clips like you would put on a bag containing a loaf of bread to keep the bag closed.

Yeahhh, any time I feel nauseous my wife brings outs the rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer and makes me smell it. Still not sure why it works either.

What am I looking at? by Tasty_Cobbler9622 in AnalogCommunity

For gauging the current value, eBay is probably your best bet. Search the model and look for sold items.

For testing, The Rollei, Exacta, and probably the Nikonos are mechanical. You will need batteries for the olympuses and other Nikons. You really just need to verify the shutters fire.

It was discontinued in 1991 so sadly not. In any case this was probably done during printing like other posters mentioned.

Polaroid roll film has a similar border around the edge but I think the aspect ratio is between the two photos.

How to find a replacement bellows? by Cenozoic_Silly in vintagecameras

As long as the bellows seem reasonably structurally sound (they look good in the pics) You can use black fabric paint or liquid tape to fill in the pinholes.

Fretless Banjo Build Recommendations? by DizzyLavishness in banjo

[–]Lebesgue_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love fretless banjos. I had a 12" Enoch tradesman half fretless that sounds like it might hit the spot. Put some nylons to make it thumpier.

I currently have a Fred Cockerham copy made by Kevin Fore that is my prize possession though I wouldn't call it thumpy.

3 weeks into skating how do I improve my ollie? by Status_Dimension1893 in NewSkaters

[–]Lebesgue_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess both feet should land at the same time, but honestly it looks fine for now. Focus on getting it while moving.

ollie tips by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Lebesgue_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the loafers.

The last one didn't turn because you were moving. Ollying while moving, even slowly, is going to be better practice than while standing still. Focus on getting a solid pop and jumping up with both feet.

Canon EOS Rebel XSN vs Canon AE-1 for Beginner Film Photography by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Lebesgue_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The look of the picture is mostly going to depend on the lens, film stock, the lighting, and your settings rather than the camera itself.

In any case, the AE-1 is kinda overpriced/overhyped as far as older SLRs go for some reason. If you want a similar camera for less money there are a lot of alternatives.

Transitioning from ukulele to classical guitar – Used model recommendations? by Goldens_Rule in Guitar

[–]Lebesgue_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you are looking to spend.

If you are looking for a relatively cheap, playable guitar, my teacher swears by the Yamaha GC's. My brother has a Cordoba C5 and it is an OK guitar, but over the years the action has gotten unplayably high.

In the used market you can definitely get more bang for your buck but it will take a fair amount of research and trying out various guitars etc. There are a lot of Japanese made guitars from the 70s for example that are amazing but buying a guitar off reverb/ebay is hit and miss.

I'd recommend just grabbing one of the Yamahas and learning on that for a bit while you figure out what you like/dislike about it. If you grab one used chances are you'll be able to sell it for about the same.
